Larry Nelson: Hello everybody and welcome to AWA Major League Wrestling. We're only one week away from our next big pay per view, Champagne Slam. That event will take place inside Market Square Arena. You will see five 10 man tag team elimination matches. On that night you'll also see Stan Hansen face Dory Funk Jr. Terry Gordy will take on Hulk Hogan, in an explosive match up. And Jumbo Tsuruta defends the AWA world title against El Canek. What an incredible event that will be. We've got a great show lined up tonight. Listen to this main event. Paul Orndorff teams with the Bruisers to take on Larry Cameron, Buzz Sawyer and Kokina. (deep breath) ok, let's get to the ring.

Dream: At Champagne Slam, you're looking at the winners and it's going to be a clean sweep babay!

They all start waving their brooms and laughing as Nelson shakes his head.

Listen up St. Clair, that wont happen again and at Champagne Slam, I'm going to be all over you boy. You claim to be the best, but after I get through with you, you'll be simply defeated.

Commercial Break

Brian Adias is standing on a Hollywood lot. He's wearing a pink tank top, sunglasses and has the TV title on his shoulder.

Adias: I'm taking time out from my demanding schedule to address a couple issues. First is you Hulk Hogan. How dare you promote your movie on AWA television last week. Hollywood is my town and you better stay in your own lane and keep out of mine. I'm not going to tell you again. Next up is Champagne Slam. Blockbuster Brian Adias will be there and so will the ratings. I've heard Bill Dundee is still crying about all the butt whippings I've given him. Well Billy, keep crying, because you got another one coming at Champagne Slam. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to give the director my rewritten script. (Brian looks at his script) Oh yea much better.

Nelson: Come on Terry, all that was unnecessary.

Gordy: Hogan! I hope you're watching brother because that's nothing compared to what I'm going to do to you at Champagne Slam! While you're out promoting your little movie, I'm kicking teeth in, stomping heads and kicking ass! You're on my tracks and the Bam Bam freight train is going to run you over! When I'm finished with you, they'll be peeling you off the canvas!

Gordy storms out of there.

Nelson: Fans, you wont want to miss that one. Right now let's hear some pre recorded comments from the Immortal Hulk Hogan.

Hogan's lifting weights and stops.

hogan.jpg.7dd58c1b2a5ffc447a19d220c0ecf98d.jpg

Oh, I've taken down monsters and beasts before and I've slayed the biggest dragons in wrestling. But now I'm faced with a challenge like never before. But let me tell you something brother, with the power of all my Hulkamaniacs behind me, there's no challenge big enough that can stop Hulk Hogan. So, Terry Gordy, whatcha gonna do when the power of Hulkamania runs wild on you!!!!

Again, I seem to keep falling behind here and I am sorry about that.  I enjoyed all of the previews Champagne Slam as each feud was well built up.  I like the idea of all the different groups tagging together in these elimination style matches.  It allows you keep angles moving on or ending them if you wish.

I loved the clean sweep for the fan favorites in the first bout.  This sets the tone for the audience and gets them excited right away.

Way to build up Vader in his bout.  As the last man standing, he is off to a great start to be the big monster in the AWA!

I had a feeling Hansen was going to win but wasn't sure.  This was one of those matches of two legends and I would expect Dory to see the big picture here and would not be upset by Hansen going over.  With Hansen, Vader, Hogan and some other big time names, AWA has main events for the next year lined up if you like.

Nikita brawling with Sarge for the Double CO was smart.  The fans got to see what they wanted and the angle stays white hot.  Really smart.

Hogan vs Bam Bam before the intermission... reminded me of some old Madison Square Garden and WWF events.  I love this form of booking as it gives the fans a chance to recharge after the big one!  I had a feeling Hogan was going over but you gave him some big time credibility with this one.

I really like that the AWA has a place for some of the older guys like Armstrong and Dundee.  AWA has gone World Wide but still understands some of its smaller markets and its original ties to places like Memphis and Canada.

Jumbo vs El Canek... again, had a feeling the champ would come out on top but you have done so much with El Canek that I just wasn't sure.  Great title match.

Really enjoyed Champagne Slam....  Thanks for all you put into this one.  It was a great read.

Well, Vinnie and co were technically right in their prediction.

Vader showing the AWA why he is The Man.

Hansen wins the battle of the cowboys.

Good idea preserving Nikita and Sarge.

The Hulkster gets his first big win.

The Bullet and the Superstar stand tall.

Jumbo gets to take the world title home to Japan next month.

Very much enjoyed reading Champagne Slam. As always, you made the event come to life and the detail really makes it easy to imagine these matches happening in AWA in 1989. Good stuff! Big nights for Hulk Hogan and Jumbo Tsuruta, who seem to be on a collision course but Vader might have something to say about that.

Looking forward to Title Night in Japan!

Larry Nelson: Hello everybody and welcome to AWA Major League Wrestling. Big show tonight as the fallout from Champagne Slam continues, because you'll see The Rose Cousins take on the High Chiefs. Mike Miller clashes with Leo Burke and Carlos Colon goes one on one with Chicky Starr. And get this, the 2 names drawn for the TV title contender's match are Nick Busick and Billy Jack Strong. That's right, the Bruisers will wrestle for the TV title shot at the Sumo Hall in Japan next month. And listen to this. Tonight, you will see a special sneak peek at Hulk Hogan's upcoming movie No Holds Barred!  I can't wait for that. Let's get to the ring.

'Bullet' Bob Armstrong and 'Superstar' Bill Dundee vs. Sam Smith and Joe Palmer

armstrong.jpg.6181f6b7b3f734afb7f05a1e74e62a02.jpgdundee.jpg.0a5cf7cf42e5ca586dd8fd10b275238a.jpg

Armstrong hits a jawbreaker on Smith, then Dundee follows with the Bombs Away for the win.

Nelson: The two of you survived your match at Champagne Slam and now Gerry Morrow has rewarded you with a world tag team title shot in Japan, at Sumo Hall on May 25th. You guys look tuned up and ready.

Boos as the world tag champs, Hector and Chavo Guerrero walk out.

guererros.jpg.8f482316fccd720ce74e4ecf5df680d7.jpg

Hector: Hold on just one second Nelson. Why are you talking to these washed up fools? You should be talking to us, the AWA world tag team champs.

Chavo: That's right! We've held these titles for an entire year and nobody has come close to beating us. We don't care if they survived at Champagne Slam, they won't survive Los Guerreros.

Armstrong: Bill and I have been around the block a few times but let me tell you something right now, we're far from being washed up.

Dundee: Have mercy! If you boys want a little sample before Japan, we can do this right here, right now!

Big Pop

Hector: You don't call the shots.

Chavo: We do!

The Guerreros head back while holding their titles up to the booing fans.

Commercial Break

Leo Burke vs. Mean Mike Miller

leo.jpg.58f63c753bdcd84a011e3c74e6d9a6f1.jpgmiller.jpg.be499598eee5d897e6c815f24e391aab.jpg

Miller attacks at the bell and pounds away on Burke. Miller swings Burke to the ropes and goes for a back drop but Burke kicks him. Miller staggers as Burke clotheslines him down 1..2..Kick Out. Burke takes control for a bit before a low blow from Miller stops his momentum. Miller works over Burke with angry stomps and punches. Miller slams Burke and follows with a big knee drop 1..2..Kick Out. Miller chokes Burke, then picks him up and chokeslams him down 1..2..Kick Out. Miller swings Burke into the turnbuckles and charges in but Burke lifts his boots and nails Miller in the face. Burke grabs Miller and executes a bridging back suplex 1..2..3! Burke rolls out of the ring, shakes the cobwebs and raises his arms in victory while Miller hits the canvas with his fists.

Commercial Break

Glamour Doll vs. Trent Watkins

doll.jpg.6873c697733fb38db77d52de8b21d705.jpg

Doll hits a slingshot splash for the win.

Nelson: Glamour Doll, I know you're upset about missing Champagne Slam. However, Big Van Vader took your spot and was the last man standing in the end. Vader will get an AWA world title match with Jumbo Tsuruta in Japan on May 25th.

Doll: (gives Nelson a dirty look) Oh, that's just wonderful! Spike Huber, you broke my face and now you're going to pay! My looks are what I'm all about. It's not easy looking this good. Huber tried to take that away from me and now he's in big trouble. I mean serious business Huber, so get ready!

Commercial Break

Before the next match, Sweet Dreams (Dream Machine and Sweet Brown Sugar) join commentary to give thoughts on the tag team division.

The Rose Cousins vs. The High Chiefs

roses.jpg.9b827032abed6398624b6277b39aae5f.jpglightfoot.jpg.c0cd643c942559527bc277d52a944d79.jpgafi.jpg.69cc7f3d688142675d8d42ccf73ac06a.jpg

A lot of hatred in this one and it shows. It's a hard hitting back and forth aggressive match with numerous pier six brawls. Rose's take control as they double clothesline Lightfoot over the top rope. Randy slams Sivi down, then hops up on the turnbuckles. Pat picks up Sivi in a vertical suplex position and is going to set him on Randy's shoulder for the Rose Bomb, but Lightfoot jumps on the apron and nails Randy with the War Club! Randy goes down and into Sivi. Sivi falls down on Pat as the Ref counts 1..2..3!

Lightfoot helps Sivi out of there.

The Rose's are in a daze.

Sweet Dreams are on commentary and tell Nelson they're going to show everyone what tag team wrestling is all about.

Sweet Dreams run in the ring and put the boots to the Rose's. They swing Pat to the ropes and double clothesline him down. They pick up Randy and double hot shot him on the ropes.

Dream Machine looks into the camera and yells "Sweet Dreams babay!"

Commercial Break

Nelson: Fans, next month Hulk Hogan's movie, No Holds Barred will open in theaters across the nation. This is sure to be a blockbuster. Right now, here's a special sneak preview.

Clips from No Holds Barred is shown.

Nelson: Wow! I know I'll be watching that one. HulkaMania is running wild in the AWA and will be running wild in the movie theaters. I've been told that in 2 weeks, Hulk Hogan will be here live and in person!

Commercial Break

Kokina w/Skandor Akbar vs. Vic Dutro and Willie Lopez

kokina.jpg.f9f06b888f30e4c1a37fbeaab73456ba.jpg

Straight up squash match! Kokina Samoan Drops both men, then hits a standing leg drop on both of them for the easy win.

Nelson: Akbar, you have a big night coming up on May 25th at Sumo Hall. Your Southern Champ Larry Cameron will face Mid American Champ Paul Orndorff in a unification match. And, this man, Kokina will go one on one with the immortal Hulk Hogan.

Akbar: First off, you better acknowledge the fact that both Cameron and Kokina were the ones left standing in their Champagne Slam match. Now, Paul Orndorff is nothing but a phony and paper champion. Larry Cameron is the real deal and in Japan, he's walking out a unified champion. Oh and as for you Hulk Hogan. Yea, we all saw your movie preview and I'm sure you're having a great time bumping shoulders with big wigs in Hollywood. Well, reality check! In Japan, you will have to face this monster, Kokina! This isn't a movie Hogan. You're going to be destroyed! End of story!

Kokina lets out a yell, that shakes Nelson.

Commercial Break

Carlos Colon vs. Chicky Starr

colon2.jpg.a198ea6019feefabf0594e6232ab4a4d.jpgchicky.jpg.818c022291bbab632db36ce76c879c70.jpg

These two have had quite a rivalry of late and want to finish business tonight. Colon starts off strong and pinballs Chicky all over the ring. Chicky stops things with a mule kick and follows by breaking every rule he can. Colon makes a brief comeback but Chicky kills it with a vicious eye gauge. Chicky swings Colon to the ropes and gives him a double thrust shot. Chicky swings off the ropes and hits a corkscrew elbow drop 1..2..Colon gets his shoulder up. Chicky spends to much time arguing with the Ref. Chicky hoists Colon up for an atomic drop, but Colon flips up and over and dropkicks Chicky into the turnbuckles. Chicky staggers back as Colon executes an overhead suplex. Colon grabs Chicky's head and pounds it several times into the canvas. Colon picks up Chicky and drops him with a brainbuster 1..2..3!

The fans cheer as Colon does a cartwheel and pumps his fists.

Commercial Break

Nelson: Fans, joining me now is the AWA mid American Champ Paul Orndorff.

Orndorff comes out wearing a tank top, jeans and is also wearing a neck brace.

Nelson: Paul, at Champagne Slam, Skandor Akbar hit you from behind with a chair, then Larry Cameron executed an inverted piledriver on that same chair. I see you're still suffering from that. Will that be an issue in the upcoming unification title match in Japan?

Orndorff: (pauses and looks down) Let me say this. It's going to take a lot more than that to keep Mr. Wonderful down. Akbar! Cameron! Your best isn't good enough! You didn't finish the job. But I can damn well guarantee you this, in Japan, Mr. Wonderful is going to finish the job! I'm walking out as the unified champion and everybody can bet on that!

Commercial Break

Brenda Britton is standing with AWA C.O.O. Gerry Morrow.

Britton: Hi everybody! The greatest thing ever to happen to the AWA, Gerry Morrow has something to say. Go ahead Gerry.

Morrow: AHHHHH thank you so much Brenda. As we've heard, Paul Orndorff and Larry Cameron will wrestle in Japan to unify de Mid American title and de Southern title. I have decided dat de winner of dat match will be de AWA International Champion. Dat is right, I am bringing back de International title.

Morrow opens up a briefcase and pulls out the newly made AWA International title.

Britton: WOW! That is beautiful. Gerry, you've outdone yourself again. Until next time, tooooodles.

Commercial Break

The Bruisers high five and get ready to rock. As you might remember, before they formed a tag team, these two had a brutal feud that ended in a SuperClash cage match.

They hold nothing back as they hammer away on each other. Busick gets the upper hand and puts Strong down with a back elbow smash off the ropes. Busick picks up Strong and hits a delayed vertical suplex 1..2..Kick Out. Busick slams Strong and goes to the middle ropes. Busick goes for a knee drop but Strong moves.

Strong regroups. Busick staggers up as Strong puts him down with a running forearm blast. Strong picks up Busick and hits a snap suplex 1..2..Kick Out. Strong swings Busick to the ropes and hits a sidewalk slam 1..2..Kick Out. Strong swings Busick into the corner and charges but Busick charges and puts Strong down with a shoulder block.

Busick rests on the ropes. Strong slowly rises as Busick grabs him and hits a neckbreaker 1..2..Strong gets his foot on the ropes. Busick grabs Strong but Strong quickly gets Busick in a bear hug, hoists him up and snake eyes Busick on the top turnbuckle.

Both men stagger up. Strong swings Busick to the ropes and goes for a clothesline, but Busick ducks it. Busick swings back but both men clothesline each other down.

The Ref starts the 10 count. Both men start to move. The Ref hits 9 as both men stand up. Busick grabs Strong and hits a spinebuster slam out of nowhere 1..2..3!

After a moment, Busick helps Strong up. Strong pulls Busick in and hugs him. Strong raises Busick's arm as the fans cheer.

Los Guerreros aren't ready to step to their challengers just yet.

Burke with a hard-fought win over Miller.

Glamour Doll is ready to make Huber pay.

Beaten by the High Chiefs then beat down by Sweet Dreams. Terrible night for the Rose's.

Kokina looks ready to crush Hulkamania.

Colon finally shuts Chicky up.

Cameron and Orndorff are gonna throwdown with the reborn International title on the line.

Busick has to get past his partner to get a TV title shot. Thankfully things stay professional between the Bruisers.

Fun week of TV for the AWA.

I m going to start at the end of the show where I was sure that one of the Bruisers would turn on the other.  Glad they didn't.  I think these just adds to these two as being real men.  They went at it tooth and nail and both were able to shake after the match.  Enjoyed this one a lot.

Just love the Brenda-Morrow combo.  While Brenda is all heel and Morrow might not be loved, he seems to play it down the middle for the most part.  If I was watching, I would hate them while watching but about an hour later I would be praising Morrow for his actions.  Well done.

I am very interested to see who goes over in the Orndorff-Cameron feud.  Both seem one big win away from moving pretty far up that ladder.

Hulk-Kokina in Japan--- $$$$.

Love the Guerreros vs Dundee and Armstrong.  I really think that the Guerreros in real life were pretty underrated.  Whenever I watched them as a kid I always were amazed at their skill.

To me, you have turned Carlos Colon into the Tito Santana of the AWA.  He just gets it done night after night.  While he is not your top guy, you know you are going to get a great match from him night after night.

Prior to getting into this hobby, I had never heard of Dream Machine.  Now he is truly one of my favorites.  Tonight was awesome with his "Sweet Dreams Baby" quote.

Great week!  Thanks for the fun read.

Let's go out there now.

Graham: That's right brotha, the Superstar is back in the game and right here in the AWA brotha and I'm having a blast.

A 68 red mustang convertible enters the parking lot. Tom Brandi is all smiles as he steps out of his brand new car.

Graham: Tom Brandi! The thrilla himself. Hey man, I'm loving that new ride. I understand it was a gift given to you for your winning performance at Champagne Slam.

Brandi: Oh wow, it's an honor to be talking with the Superstar. Yea man, Gerry Morrow told me to pick out a new ride and this is it.

Graham: Looking good brotha. You earned it. I'm telling all you fans right now that this kid Tom Brandi is the future of the AWA. Tom, good luck brotha, you're on the fast track daddy.

It's all Huber as he wins the match with an airplane spin followed by a jumping knee drop.

Nelson: Spike, it appears Glamour Doll is issuing some serious threats towards you.

Huber: That glamour geek started something and what happened? I caved his face in with this (holds up his sledgehammer) Doll! You want more? I'm on the job, so come and get it!

Commercial Break

We see David Sammartino running in a park. His hair is short and slicked back. He's also looking more trim and muscular.

sammartino.jpg.abf6ea3bcad5774bc47f08de52a673cb.jpg

There's a voiceover.

Sammartino: It wasn't easy stepping into this business with the last name Sammartino. I was young and didn't know how to handle the pressure. Due to my immaturity, I made a lot of bad choices. It's time to right all my wrongs. It's time to embrace the Sammartino name. My name is David Sammartino and I'm coming to the AWA.

Commercial Break

Iceman Parsons vs. Cannonball Griz

iceman.jpg.94656e23827fc08a5d31075e31b69a07.jpgcannonball.jpg.2c6757c6944d38cd954a77f000697124.jpg

Commercial Break

We come back and see the Olympians on vacation. They're on a beach while some pretty women are shining up their National title belts.

Rheingans: As you can see, thanks to our epic performance at Champagne Slam, we're enjoying a well deserved vacation. Champions like ourselves should enjoy the spoils. No doubt about it, we earned it.

Patera: And you know something Brad? We'll be on an extended vacation because at Title Night in Japan, we'll be defending our prized titles against the San Juan Nobodies. Is that the best the AWA could come up with? Well, at least Japan has good food.

The Olympians laugh and sip their drinks. Rheingans then looks at the women and tells them they missed a spot.

Commercial Break

Tony 'Simply the Best' St. Clair vs. Todd Rooney

tony.jpg.c0c376e154153263dacb429e6d3111bb.jpg

Tina Turner's Simply the Best plays as St. Clair enters the ring wearing a gold sequence robe. He takes off his robe and has on shiny gold wrestling pants and gold boots. Nothing but the best for him.

St. Clair makes short work of his opponent and wins the match with a floating butterfly suplex.

Nelson: Mr. St. Clair, after your winning performance at Champagne Slam, I understand you haven't picked out your reward yet.

St. Clair: Well, since I'm already simply the best, what more do I need? I'll get with Gerry when the time is right.

Commercial Break

From behind. Sgt. Slaughter nails Nikita with a chair! Slaughter clamps on the cobra clutch and swings Nikita around like a ragdoll. Slaughter then hurls Nikita out of the ring. Slaughter goes out and swings Nikita into the steel post.

Nelson: Ok, enough!

Slaughter: This is just a taste! In 2 weeks, me and that puke Nikita Koloff will battle in a boot camp match! From the beginning my mission has been to terminate Nikita Koloff and rid the AWA of that no good commie red! In 2 short weeks, Nikita Koloff will enter into my world! My battlefield! You're history Nikita! My mission will be accomplished. Plain and simple! As for you Nelson, you're dismissed!

Akbar: Gerry Morrow should just give us the International title right now.

Cameron: Orndorff! You're no challenge boy! I put you in a neck brace and that was just to easy. In Japan, I'm gonna pummel you into the ground and walk away with the International title! You're going down Orndorff!!

Good night for Akbar's men.

Commercial Break

Nelson: Fans, don't forget, next week Hulk Hogan will be here live and in person. I can't wait for that. Ok, joining me now is the AWA world champion Jumbo Tsuruta along with Ray Stevens.

Ray is wearing jeans and a sports jacket. Jumbo is wearing a black suit with the title on his shoulder.

Nelson: On May 25th at the Sumo Hall in Japan, Jumbo Tsuruta will defend the AWA world title against Big Van Vader. Before I get to you Ray, here's some pre recorded comments from Big Van Vader.

vader.jpg.4e18dda9aad4d61facf9a1248fd9446b.jpg

Vader: I went to Champagne Slam and conquered every unlucky soul who stood in my way! They all went down! Jumbo Tsuruta! You're the next poor soul in my way! I own Japan and at Title Night I'm going to own you and own the AWA world title!

Nelson: Ray, I think the world champion might have his hands full with Big Van Vader in Japan.

Stevens: First off, don't ever try and overshadow the AWA world champion Jumbo Tsuruta by mentioning Hulk Hogan's name before we come out. Got it! And next, you better show some respect and call the AWA world champion by his name.

Nelson: I apologize. The AWA world champion, Jumbo Tsuruta

Stevens: That's better. I want Big Van Vader to listen and listen good. Jumbo Tsuruta dominated Japan, and now has dominated America. Jumbo owns the world! At Champagne Slam, Jumbo defeated one of the best wrestlers in the world, El Canek, fair and square. The AWA has sent in all the top dogs but Jumbo has knocked them all down. Because Jumbo is a human wrecking bone crushing machine! Big Van Vader! You're no different. Sure, you're big, bad and powerful but so is Jumbo. You're out of your league Vader. Jumbo's going to Japan as the world champion and is coming back to America as the world champion. End of story.

jumbo.jpg.e38382b7b41404e93f709d4286cb5935.jpg

The show ends with Jumbo holding up the world title.

Billy Graham should make an exciting addition to the AWA commentary team.

Brandi cashes in his reward on a hot new ride while St Clair is holding onto his.

Vinnie & Gary just made a big mistake.

Huber calls out Doll.

Sammartino looks to live up to his father's legacy.

Parsons scores a big win.

The Olympians don't appear to be taking the Saints seriously.

Sarge launches a preemptive strike.

You can just tell Cameron has already picked out a spot on his mantle for the International title.

Nelson really has a bad habit of bringing up Hogan right before interviewing Jumbo. Regardless Vader & Stevens trade some harsh words ahead of their clash in Japan.

What you should be thinking about is this monster right here, Kokina! I'm telling you right now Hogan, you won't be attending any premiers after Kokina destroys you. Hulkamania is a myth, a fairy tale. And this fairytale will end sadly and badly for you and all your so called Hulkamaniacs.

Busick being offended by how Adias has been carrying himself as TV champion is exactly what I needed in this build.

The Rose's even the score with Sweet Dreams.

Graham really puts over the Iceman on his quest for gold.

Chicky with a nice flex.

Orndorff gets Pearl Harbored.

Bid Jim takes a bad trip to Larry Land.

Adias is right, I honestly hadn't noticed how long he'd been champion. A lot of long reigns in the AWA.

Idol trying to stir the pot.

Nikita is ready for war!

The Fantastic earn a title shot.

Kokina shows Hogan exactly what he's up against.

I think the AWA has done great things with its announce team and now you added Superstar!  Love it.  Between his Hippie Vibe, Brenda's good looks and bad attitude and Morrow's cool accent, and Killer Ken, you have me hooked with each promo.

Also, I think you have made your shows so interesting with all the promos and video tapes-- the new and "muscular Sammartino, the Olympians on the beach... etc.  Whenever I watch old time wrestling shows on youtube, I tend to fast-forward through the matches and focus on the announcers and the wrestler's promos.  Great job with all your great extras!

Between Sgt. and Koloff, Cameron and Orndorff and Jumbo and Vader, you have 3 huge main events for any show you want.  Looking forward to seeing how these all playout.

I do wonder if Dundee was honest that he is happy with the Bullet... always love these feuds with the stars of the early 80's fighting to stay on top.

Hogan getting crushed by Kokina had that WWF feel in that everyone doubts Hogan can overcome the huge opponent placed in front of him and then some how Hogan survives.  While we all had an idea of what would happen, it paid a whole lot of bills for Vince!  I'm thinking you know a good formula when you see it... enjoy Hulkamania!

Also love the Fantatics vs The High Chiefs.  This is the type of feud that could go 3 months of wrestling each other every night all over the territory and it would never get old!

Love my weekly dose of the AWA!

Carlos Colon vs. Trent Watkins

colon.jpg.df5c80283fd3edef392a672cd9d7edea.jpg

Colon looks great and wins the match with a flying clothesline from the top rope.

Nelson: Carlos, it looks like your neck is one hundred percent. Now that you've finished your issues with Chicky Starr, what's next for you?

Colon: I have to be honest Larry. Yes, my neck is one hundred percent. However, I still have horrible flashbacks of SuperClash when Buzz Sawyer snapped my neck with the chain. I need to get over this mental block and there's only one way to do that. I have to fight Buzz Sawyer one more time. We've defeated each other and we've literally beaten the souls out of each other. We have unfinished business and we need to end this once and for all.

"A friend of mine said Terry, you remind me of a rooster. You're dominant, arrogant, cocky and bad. I thought about that for a long time and realized, he's absolutely right. David Sammartino vs. Carl Kellerman

sammartino.jpg.abf6ea3bcad5774bc47f08de52a673cb.jpg

Sammartino looks sharp and crisp and gets a good reception from the fans. Sammartino wins the match with the brain buster.

Nelson: David Sammartino, it's great to have you here in the AWA. I know you've had a bit of a transformation.

David: Thank you very much Larry. As I've said, I made a lot of mistakes because I was immature and just plain dumb. I'm here to make a name for myself while also living up to my father's name. It's time to carry on the Sammartino legacy.

Massive boos as Larry Zbyszko strolls out.

Zbyszko: I can't believe my eyes. Is this Bruno's boy? Well, look at you, all grown up and ready to embrace Daddy's name. Why I just think that's wonderful.

Nelson: Alright Larry, that's enough.

Zbyszko: Shut up Spudhead! What? Bruno's boy can't speak for himself?

David: Look Larry, I just got here and I'm not looking for any trouble.

Zbyszko: Wow, Daddy would be so proud. Typical Sammartino, always backing down and cowering away. I knew it. you definitely got your father's guts. How is Daddy? You know, he's never been the same since I humiliated him. Such fond memories.

David: And you're the Larry Zbyszko I remember. Always shooting his mouth off with nothing but lies.

Zbyszko: Oh look at you, pretending to have some guts. Face it Bruno's boy, you're just gutless, like your old man.

David: Ok Larry, how about we settle this in the ring? You and me, two weeks from today.

Zbyszko: (laughs) A match? Ok, sure, why not? This will be great. I've beaten up the dad and now I get to teach his boy a lesson he'll never forget. See you in two weeks, Bruno's boy.

Nikita swings Slaughter into the corner and follows with a back elbow smash to the head. Nikita swings Slaughter to the opposite corner and follows with another back elbow smash to the head. So many great things here tonight.

I love the mental block with Colon needing Sawyer back in the ring.  Very creative.

I never liked the Red Rooster idea but I think you can pull it off.  Taylor and the "cock of the walk" arrogance reminds me I how much you got me to hate Greg Gagne.  Looking forward to hating Taylor.

Larry Z. bringing up Bruno... awesome.  Looking forward to this one.  Great use of your entire roster.

AWA has some bog events coming up... Night of Champions in Japan and the WrestleRock.  I can't wait to see all the chaos.

Speaking of big events... Boot Camp match... Sgt. vs Nikita... on TV.... this would be talked about forever!!!

From the Sumo Hall in Tokyo Japan

Ken Resnick: Hello everybody and welcome to a very special Title Night here in Japan. I'm here with Superstar Billy Graham. Superstar, a big night ahead of us.

Graham: That's right daddy! All the titles are on the line plus a very special attraction match as the immortal Hulk Hogan clashes with Kokina. Oh brutha, that's going to be a collision!

Resnick: Indeed it will! And of course the entire country of Japan is anticipating the big world title match as Jumbo Tsuruta defends against Big Van Vader.

Graham: Whoooo daddy, tighten up the bolts because that's going to be a hard hitting affair, for all the marbles.

Resnick: Ok, well, let's get this night going.

AWA National Tag Team Title Bout

The Olympians (C) vs. The San Juan Saints

I think the Olympians are a little too overconfident because the first few minutes is all Saints as they frustrate and confuse the Olympians with quick tags and cohesive teamwork. The Saints double back drop Rheingans. Patera runs in but gets double clotheslined. The tide changes when Patera (from the apron) knees Perez's back. The Olympians get momentum and work over Perez.
