Great week for the NWA...

I really enjoyed WCW TV this week.  So many matches between two big names but the bigger name always came out on top.  I think this is a great way to push who you want.

Also enjoying the push of Adrian Adonis.  He is someone I don't think will win the title but name recognition, a devasting finisher and Sherri in the corner makes him very believable and a Flair-Adonis feud will sell plenty of tickets!

Dusty to win the tournament puts him right where he should be... in title contention.  WOW.... Dusty vs Hansen.  Someone is going to be bloody!  This one is going to be awesome.

Adonis vs. Flair is going to be good.

Sherri has Radiance on the winning track.

Smiley suffers his first loss, but Miss Linda is interested.

Hansen's lariat takes down a brickhouse.

Good grief! I bet the fans were in awe at Animal. If there's anybody that could powerslam Haystacks, it's Animal.

Damn, Sherri goes nuts on Flair! Loved the expression on Adonis.

Charlotte,

Dusty Rhodes wins the tournament and gets a US title shot. If there's one man who can hang with Hansen, it's the American Dream.

Ritter has enough of Slick and powerslams him down! Cool seeing Ritter leave on a high note.

After a great feud, Trinity blows it off by winning the 6 man titles. This is going to be a fun reign.

Greenville,

Always fun seeing the Assassins get a win.

Santo and Hase get in solid victories.

Tully gets past Siva, as he tunes up for his rematch with Flair.

Wrestlers need to be on high alert when they see Fuller coming in with a towel.

Even without Slick, the Brutha's still fight dirty and retain over the Renegade Warriors.

Road Warriors end the night on a high note by taking down the Andersons.

WWE Network Roundup (Nov. 22-28): Survivor Series, NWA World Championship Wrestling - Cageside Seats

From Center Stage in Atlanta GA.

On Commentary: Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone

Ring Announcer: David Crockett

Previously recorded Airing on 6/18/87 on the USA Network.

The War Party (Joe Lightfoot & Billy Two Eagles) vs The New Breed (Chris Champion & Sean Royal)

Royal & Champion are familiar faces to those who recall the Mid-Atlantic days. Commentary say they've been traveling the country honing their skills & have returned to show off what they've learned. They isolate Two Eagles & really work him over, showing they aren't afraid to bend the rules. Lightfoot gets the hot tag & manages to turn the tide for a bit until Royal nails a dropkick which knocks him back into the War Party's corner. Two Eagles takes the opportunity to tag himself back in which seems to irritate Lightfoot & they actually get into an argument until Royal drives a knee into Two Eagles back sending him crashing into Lightfoot who falls through the ropes. Royal whips Two Eagles into the New Breed's corner & tags in Champion. Royal lifts Two Eagles in a spinebuster position while Champion climbs to the top rope & comes off with a seated senton. Schiavone informs the audience that this move is called "future shock" & it puts Two Eagles away. Lightfoot is furious at Two Eagles & walks away while his partner trys to explain himself.

"The Polynesian Prince" Siva Afi vs Barry O

O's arrogant strutting around the ring really gets under the crowd's skin. He & Siva have a mostly straight forward brawl with O sprinkling in some mat wrestling for flavor. Eventually Afi's intensity turns the tide & he claims the win via the jumping headbutt.

"Mr Excitement" Johnny Ace vs Joel "Dead Eye" Deaton

Deaton's pure roughhouse offense clashes nicely with Ace's more versatile arsenal. They have a competitive & entertaining match until Deaton escapes an attempted "Ace Crusher" by shoving his opponent chest first into the turnbuckle. He follows up by hitting a stiff clothesline on his cornered adversary before planting him with a bulldog for the 1...2...3.

The Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell) vs Tough Guy Inc (Don Bass & Duke Myers)

The Bee's are making their NWA debut & commentary hype them as an exciting duo who've made their names in the northeast as well as a recent successful stint in Chicago. They quickly win the crowd over with their quick offense & effective teamwork. The Tough Guys are determined to play spoilers however & we get a nice back & forth tag match. Towards the end things start to break down & we get all four men in the ring throwing hands. Surprisingly this plays to the Bee's advantage as they're able to nail Bass with a double dropkick allowing Blair to pin him while Brunzell holds off Myers.

Bruiser Brody vs "Pretty Boy" Doug Somers w/"Sensational" Sherri Martel

Somers really drew the short end of the stick as Brody batters him around the ring. Commentary point out how Brody & Somers' Radiance stablemate Adrian Adonis eliminated each other in the tournament in Charlotte. Martel is able to create a few openings for her client to take advantage of but they never last & inevitably he falls to the "King Kong Knee Drop"

NWA World Television Title

Tom "MegaMan" McGee(c) vs "Black Bullet" Shaska Whatley w/Slick

Commentary hype Whatley's opportunity to become a double champion & he throws everything he has at the champion. Whatley really knows how to get heat in this part of the country & the addition of Slick kicks that to another level meaning the crowd is on fire for this one. The combination of Whatley's aggressive brawling & Slick's willingness to interfere make it a rough defense for McGee who responds with grit & his jaw dropping athletism. In a crucial part of the match, Whatley has prone & goes for the "Flying Willie" but takes a second too long berating the fans & McGee is able to roll out of the way. Slick perhaps sensing the TV title slip away, gets on the ramp connecting the entrance to the ring & begins jaw jacking with the ref. Suddenly the Southern Boys come out & promptly pick Slick up onto their shoulders & carry him to the back as commentary mention that the Southern Boys own a victory over the United States Tag champs. Whatley is irate at what's happening to his manager but before he can do anything he's pulling into a back suplex which the champ follows with a slingshot legdrop for another successful defense of his belt.

Dusty Rhodes cuts a promo on winning the tournament in Charlotte to challenge for the NWA United States Title. He puts over his history in Florida & says he's looking forward to "lockin' horns with one of the baddest dudes in all wrasslin & my fellow Texan Stan Hansen". He says winning the United States title on independence day is gonna be "one of the sweetest moments of my wrasslin lifetime babay!"

We see a pre-recorded from The Celestial Trinity who hype their winning the NWA World Six Man Tag Team titles in Charlotte. Zodiac says "The Posse tried to halt the inevitable march of the universe, only to be crushed beneath it." Says they will hold the titles until the last star fades from the sky & throws out an open challenge for the Bash for "an three mortals brave yet foolish enough to think they can overturn fates design."

Solie announces that due to the Southen Boys owning a DQ victory over the Brutha's in a title match, as well as what went down on last nights WCW, the NWA Championship Committee has decreed that the Southern Boys will receive another chance at the United States Tag Titles at the Great American Bash!

New Breed immediately make a splash in the NWA. On the flip side, it looks like the War Party are heading for an explosive break up.

One of my game's favorites, Siva Afi, racks up an impressive win over O.

I loved that finishing sequence by Deaton.

Killer Bees arrive and get instant credibility with a win over Tough Guy Inc.

Poor Sommers.

Exciting TV title main event. Slick and Whatley get the classic heel heat, Southern Boys save the day, and Mega Man retains. Fun stuff.

Worldwide.

Add the Dirty White Boys to a stacked tag division.

The Gigolo earns a TV title shot and will be a threat, but Mega Man has some serious momentum going right now.

Dusty vs. Hansen at the Bash is going to rock.

Whoever accepts the Trinity's challenge, I hope they know what they're dealing with.

Southern Boys get a shot at the US tag titles. I'm sure Slick is going to want payback.

WWE Network Roundup (Nov. 22-28): Survivor Series, NWA World Championship Wrestling - Cageside Seats

From the Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill SC.

On Commentary: Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone

Ring Announcer: David Crockett

Previously recorded Airing on 6/25/87

The Southern Boys (Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong) vs The Assassins (2&3)

The two masked men were determined to send a message to the rest of the tag team division & really put the fan favorites through the ringer. But Armstrong & Smothers refused to be deterred ahead of their big opportunity at the Great American Bash & with the crowd's support were able to rally with Armstrong landing a top rope sunsetflip to secure the win.

Shaun Simpson vs "Pretty Boy" Doug Somers w/"Sensational" Sherri Martel

Commentary hype the ongoing rivalry between the Express & Radiance before revealing that the two teams will meet at the Great American Bash in a Texas Tornado match. We get a heated match with both men clearly trying to soften the other up before their big clash. As has become the pattern, Martel proved the difference maker. Taking advantage of the ref checking on Somers, she shoved Simpson off the top rope sending him crashing to the mat allowing her client to hit a brainbuster for the tainted win.

"Big" Lou Winston vs Zodiac

The Spartanburg naitive put up a spirited effort against the maniacal leader of the Celestial Trinity rocking him with a series of clotheslines & football tackles. But Zodiac was able to use that energy against his opponent as he sidestepped a charging Winston who's shoulder crashed into the ring post. It was all downhill from there with the end coming from the diving kneedrop. Commentary say whomever answer the open challenge for the Six Man Titles at the Bash, they'd better come prepared.

"The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes vs "Iron Fist" Duke Myers

This one is mainly a showcase for Rhodes who had the crowd hanging on his every move. Myers does get some solid hits in but the outcome is never in doubt & the "Bionic Elbow" is greeted with a huge pop.

NWA World Television Title

Tom MegaMan McGee(c) vs "Gigolo" Jimmy Del Ray w/"Sensational" Sherri Martel

A very competitive match which serves as something of a coming out party for the challenger. This is Del Ray's biggest singles opportunity yet & he takes the chance to show what he's made of. Of course, McGee is champion for a reason & fights back with his combination of power & athleticism which never fails to impress. The end comes when Del Ray goes for his moonsault only for McGee to roll out of harm's way. A slightly worried Martel is seen taking her heel of & looks ready to throw it into the ring when Shaun Simpson ran down & swiped it from her. Sherri let out a downright animalistic yell as she actually takes a swing at Simpson who ducks under before grabbing Sherri & takes her up onto his shoulder & carries her to the back, her kicking & screaming obscenities the entire time. Back in the ring a somewhat distracted Del Ray falls victim to a closing blitz by the champ which culminates in the slingshot legdrop.

NWA World Heavyweight Champion "Nature" Boy Ric Flair, "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez & a partner of their choosing vs The Horsemen (Tully Blanchard & The Andersons) w/JJ Dillon

The Horsemen are already in the ring while a Flair & Fernandez stand in the aisleway. The Horsemen can be heard calling that there is no third man when "White Lightening" blairs over the pa system & Bruiser Brody storms the ring. The Horsemen clear out while Brody stomps around swinging his chain huss-ing at the crowd. The ref somehow manages an orderly start & we get a intense main event that threatens to be thrown out several times. Finally, towards the end of TV time all six men are brawling in the ring. JJ takes the chance to slip the title to Arn who smashes Fernandez with it. The ref turns around in time to see the cover & makes the three count. The match may be over but the fight isn't & fists are still flying as we go off the air with Caudle & Schiavone hard selling the Bash.

Southern Boys have a rough time with the Assassins but get the win. Solid tune up for their upcoming match with the Brutha's.

Sherri's been quite the difference maker for Radiance.

I agree with commentary, whoever answers Trinity's challenge better know what they're getting into.

It's always a big deal when Dusty wrestles on TV.

Gigolo shines tonight. However, Simpson finally has enough and gets Sherri out of there, allowing Mega Man to retain. Can't wait for the Texas Tornado blow off.

Damn! That's one heck of a TV main event. Horsemen get the tainted win but the fight is far from over.

Worldwide,

Brutha's send a message right back to the Southern Boys.

Speaking of messages, Hansen sends Dusty a brutal one at the expense of Siva and Executioner.

Smiley and Mega Man at the Bash. Should be a good one.

Wow! Look at those teams in the Land of Opportunity match. To close to call.

Things just got interesting for the Trinity 6 man open challenge match. I wonder who Adias is bringing in???

Bring on the Bash!!!!

Can't wait for the bash... lots on the line... plenty of stakes for everyone to invest in! I really like the land of opportunity gimmick... it works and there's some big time teams in that spot. Brody comes in with a huge bang. NWA continues to provide one of the best when it comes to utilizing talent and making them important quicker than anyone else!

Brutha's in Arms defend the United States Tag Team Titles against the Southern Boys. The Celestial Trinity have thrown out an open challenge for the NWA World Six Man Tag Team Titles, we know Brian Adidas had answered but we don't know who his partners will be. Radiance & the S&S Express look to settle their rivalry once & for all in a Texas Tornado match. The Outlaws will challenge the Road Warriors one more time for the NWA World Tag Team Titles but this time in a steel cage! Stan "The Lariat" Hansen faces his toughest test to date as he defends the NWA United States Title against "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes. And in the main event, the rematch the world has been waiting for, Tully Blanchard attempts to regain the Ten Pounds of Gold as he challenges "Nature Boy" Ric Flair in a 60 minute Iron Man match. We're just about to kick things off with the "Land of Opportunity" gauntlet match but before we do, please welcome American Music award winner Mrs Diana Ross to sing our national anthem.

"Land of Opportunity" gauntlet match order of elimination.

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew eliminated The War Party when Joe Lightfoot immediately attacked Billy Two Eagles the moment the bell rang battering him all around the ring area & busting him open on the ring post before rolling him into the ring then simply walking away as if nothing happened. With a shrug, Ole pinned Two Eagles' bloody carcass for the easy first elimination.

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew eliminated Good & Plenty when JJ tripped SBS sending him into an Arn Spinebuster.

The Killer Bees eliminated The Minnesota Wrecking Crew when Jim Brunzell shoved Ole into JJ on the ring apron before pulling him into an O'Connor roll.

The Killer Bees eliminated The Dirty White Boys when B. Brian Blair avoided a double back bodydrop by pulling Anthony into an inside cradle. Denton tried to pull on his partner's hand to prevent the hold but Brunzell tackled him allowing Blair to complete the cradle.

The Killer Bees eliminated Spartanburg Vice with a double dropkick on Lou Winston. Both teams shook hands afterwards.

The Killer Bees eliminated The Stud Stable when Blair countered a Jimmy Golden Piledriver attempt into a jacknife pin. The Stud Stable we're furious at the result & assaulted the Bees leading to...

British Justice eliminated The Killer Bees when Haystacks flattened a exhausted & beatdown Blair with a belly-to-belly suplex.

Winners: British Justice!

NWA World Television Title

Tom "MegaMan" McGee vs "Black Magic" Norman Smiley w/Ms Linda ended in a 20 minute time limit draw. McGee offered a handshake but at Linda's direction, Smiley left without taking it.

No winner. Still NWA World Television Champion: Tom "MegaMan" McGee!

NWA World Six Man Tag Team Titles

(The champions are already in the ring awaiting Adidas to reveal his partners. The "Lone Star" milks it for a moment before gesturing to the curtain which parts to reveal... THE GRAPPLERS!)

"Lone Star" Brian Adidas & The Grapplers defeat The Celestial Trinity (Zodiac, Jason the Terrible & Angel of Death)(c) when Grappler #1 pinned AoD with a running boot to the face.

Winners and NEW NWA World Six Man Tag Team Champions: Brian Adidas & The Grapplers!

NWA United States Tag Team Titles

Brutha's in Arms (Shaska Whatley & Tiger Conway Jr) c w/Slick defeat The Southern Boys (Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong) when Slick tried to pass Conway one of the title belts which referee Theodore Long intercepted. This seemed to be part of the plan however as Slick immediately slide his man a chair which he crashed into Armstrong's head. Long turned just as Conway disposed of the chair & while he probably heard the shot he had no proof anything happened so had no choice but to count 1...2...3.

Winners & still NWA United States Tag Team Champions: Brutha's in Arms!

Texas Tornado match

Radiance (Doug Somers & Jimmy Del Ray) w/ "Sensational" Sherri Martel vs The S&S Express (Joe Savoldi Shaun Simpson)

An absolutely wild brawl in which you could truly feel the animosity between the four men. Sometime after the 15 minute mark, Martel got on the ring apron holding one of her heels. Somers tried to send Simpson into the awaiting heel but Simpson reversed the whip & Martel struck her own man leaving him vulnerable to the "Express Lane" & pin while Savoldi held Del Ray at bay. After the bell Martel was screaming at the downed Somers, even stomping on him for good measure (thankfully she used the foot without the high heel) before leading Del Ray away leaving Somers to be tended to by NWA staff.

Winners: The S&S Express!

NWA United States Title

Stan "The Lariat" Hansen(c) vs "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes.

No mat classic here, just two of the finest brawlers in the game getting it on like two men should. They throw some serious haymakers at each other & to the surprise of approximately nobody both men are bleeding by match end. After over 20 minutes of back-and-forth action it comes down to the two combatents standing in center ring trading blows. Rhodes summons all the energy he has left & nails the "Bionic Elbow" to a huge pop! Hansen staggers backwards & looks like he may fall through the ropes but to the shock of everyone, instead rebounds off them & charges back with a LARIAT FROM NOWHERE! He manages to get an arm across Rhodes which just manages to get him the win.

Winner and STILL NWA United States Champion: Stan Hansen!

NWA World Tag Team Steel Cage match.

The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/"Precious" Paul Ellering vs The Outlaws (Ron Bass & Black Bart)

Four of the toughest men in the NWA going to war over the richest prize in tag team wrestling. Each of them is rammed into & raked across the cage & more than one of them is cut open by the time the finish comes. Said finish comes in a matter similar to how to Road Warriors won the titles in the first place. With Hawk scaling the side of the cage coming off as Animal takes Bass onto his shoulders for a super "Doomsday Device"

Winners and STILL NWA World Tag Team Champions: The Road Warriors!

(As Ellering enters the cage to celebrate with his clients, an uproar is heard as British Justice storm into the cage, knocking Ellering down before pouncing on the champions. Tired, bloody & taken by surprise, Hawk & Animal find themselves in the rare position of being completely overwhelmed by the combined effort of Street, Haystacks & Smiley. As the beatdown continues Ellering makes his way out the door, grabs a chair, re-enters the cage & starts swinging at anything not wearing face paint. He manages to buy his clients enough time for them to catch their breath & rejoin the fight. Just as the tide begins to turn however, a hooded man emerges from the crowd & enters the cage wielding a baseball bat. Without a hint of hesitation, he drives the bat into Ellering's ribcage before repeatedly nailing both champions with it.  As he's embraced by the members of British Justice, the hood is lowered to reveal...BILL DUNDEE! The Superstar is back in the NWA! He & his companions raise their hands as boos rain down.)

60 minute Iron Man match for the NWA World Heavyweight Title.

"Nature Boy Ric Flair(c) vs Tully Blanchard w/JJ Dillon

Order of falls:

Tully Blanchard scores the first fall by countering a Figure Four into an inside cradle with a handful of tights at 17:47

Ric Flair scores the second fall when Blanchard hits him with the title in clear view of the referee earning a disqualification at 38:05

Blanchard scores the third fall by pinning the prone Flair at 38:08

Ric Flair scores the fourth fall with a surprise backslide at 49:53

Ric Flair scores the fifth fall after a series of reversals ends with him on top during a inside cradle at 59:55

Winner with a score of 3-2 and STILL NWA World Heavyweight Champion: Ric Flair!

The Great American Bash was an awesome event.... Love how you kept so many tag teams looking good in the Gauntlet Match as they won a few matches which then gives them an excuse to lose later.  I have been waiting for the Hansen-Rhodes match for a while and it was awesome.  Dusty Rhodes with a clean defeat in Florida shows just what you think of Hansen!  WOW.

The Road Warriors vs Bart/Bass was also a great match.  Smart choice as the Outlaws are one of the few teams who would be believable in a quality match against the Road Warriors at this time in history!

WOW... Flair over Tully... just never thought I would see them in the ring against each other.  This is awesome and can be an angle that goes on and on for ever.  Kind of like Lawler in Memphis!

Great event.  Good luck with the new house!

You know it's going to be a great night when Diana Ross kicks things off.

Crazy start with the gauntlet match as Lightfoot finally snaps and beats his partner down. Andersons look good, but the Killer Bees steal the show with an incredible performance. The Stud Stable's post match attack proved to be the deciding factor as British Justice takes advantage and gets the win.

Mega Man and Smiley give the fans a 20 minute wrestling classic. Rematch!

WOW! Adias comes through and brings in the Grapplers! Just like that, new 6 man champs are crowned! Great moment.

Slick is brilliant! His plan works to perfection and the Brutha's retain. Heel work at its best.

I have really enjoyed the S&S/Radiance feud and the blow off delivered. S&S stand victorious. However, Sommers takes a thrashing from Sherri. It looks like Gigolo is still on Sherri's good side.

Hansen and Dusty beat the hell out of each other in an epic fight! Hansen pulls off the big win. I can't imagine who's going to get the US title off Hansen.

Outlaws give the Road Warriors a fight, but the Road Warriors end things in dominating fashion for the crowd popping win. Hold on! British Justice makes a statement on the Warriors. On top of that, the Superstar is back!

Flair and Tully give the fans everything they could ask for in 60 minutes. I loved the evenly matched falls and how it came down to the wire. Flair retains in a match of the year candidate. After that performance, I think Tully will get a rematch. Like Kev said, this feud could go on forever and remain exciting.

The Bash will go down as one of the most talked about events in NWA history. Great wrestling, brawling, surprises, title changes and Flair standing tall at the end.

Double thumbs up brother!

Great story told here with the tag team gauntlet! The Killer Bees made a good showing but Giant Haystacks was a step too far!

It's cool to see Brian Adidas and the Grapplers making their mark here!

Texas Tornado rules always make for a fun match! Loved the finish, very interested to see where Radiance goes from here and if they stay together!

Stan Hansen versus Dusty Rhodes! What a match! Really cool finish with the lariat off the rebound!

Always a treat to see the Road Warriors in a cage! Excellent post-match angle, as well!

Ric Flair versus Tully Blanchard! Wow! What a match to see live! Amazing main event for an amazing show!
