Zero Fighters get the big win, but it seems a mysterious individual has an interest in the Blasters.

Great promos from both Jones and Whatley. This will be a fun feud, especially with Valiant involved.

Stud Stable have a pretty firm grip on the 6 man titles.

Baby Doll has Badd Co. looking good. Hopefully they make a run at the titles soon.

Oh no! Sullivan has arrived and has already put together a horrifying stable.

Worldwide,

Wright, Eliminators and Pitbull get in some nice showcases.

Uncle Ivan can still get the job done, just ask Perez.

I really think Kevin Von Erich is going to light the NWA up.

High stakes at Battlebowl.

Awesome shows!

-I really liked the Shaska Whatley turn.  I think he is even better as a babyface then a heel.

-Abbie and Sullivan are going to be fun.

-Valiant as one of the top babyfaces is fun no matter what age he is.  The war with Paul Jones is great Mid-Atlantic/NWA wrestling.

Kevin Von Erich.

This week we hear pre recorded comments from Von Erich. He puts over how much the wrestling business means to his family and promises to bring a fight the size of Texas when he debuts next week!

Kevin Sullivan.

After Abdullah and the Master Blasters basically murdered three unlucky bastards on TV, the three monsters gathered alongside Sullivan and a terrified Sean Mooney. Sounding like a demented preacher, Sullivan spoke of a "spark of darkness buried deep within the heart of the National Wrestling Alliance. Like a siren's song, it summons to it those who's hearts are filled with only the purest strain of evil." The Master felt this call to the core of his being and has commanded Sullivan to take mastery over it. He brought Abdullah "the human embodiment of destruction" and was pleased to have found two "warriors from the Wasteland" already causing havoc. Prepare thyselves NWA for The Dark Crusade has begun!

NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title.

After a long journey around the world the Junior Heavyweight Title is returning to the NWA proper. We see footage of Lucha sensation Silver King recently winning the championship in Mexico City. We're told the new champion will be bringing the title to NWA TV in the very near future.

The war against the Paul Jones Army.

Jimmy Valiant and Shaska Whatley brought their reunited teamwork against a young team that has been slowly but surely earning respect among their peers, The Eliminators. Paul Jones joined commentary and continuesly derailed Solie's calling of the match by raging against the fan favorites. After a game effort by their opponents, Valiant & Whatley managed to secure the W to Jones' clear ire. Curiously despite his displeasure he took the time to hand Saturn a card before he left.

Kevin Von Erich is going to rock the NWA!!

This is Sullivan at his best. His monsters are going to terrorize the NWA.

Very cool seeing the Jr. title coming to the NWA. Silver King is a great choice to bring the belt in.

Smart move by Jones. Picking up a strong young team like the Eliminators will add more muscle to the Army.

Kevin Von Erich makes his anticipated debut and gains immediate credibility by beating Anderson with the claw.

Can't wait to see how Christopher welcomes Silver King.

Always cool seeing NWA vets like Rich, Race and Ole get TV time and wins.

Manny might have his eye on Fuller's title.

Solid showcases on Worldwide.

JJ is still earning his money as the Horsemen's manager.

I think Kevin VonErich is just the big name the babyfaces need in the NWA.  Enjoy using him.

Also think Sullivan and his craziness works perfectly in a Southern territory.  Love all the new additions.

The Junior Heavyweight title will be a great way to hype up your mid-card matches.  I don't know much about Silver King but great angle for you.  Good work.

Bundy and his size make him a big time heel.  So many options here!

Enjoying the NWA and where it is going.

Ring announcer/interviews: Sean Mooney

"Shooting Star" Keichi Yamada defeats "The Mad Man from the Sudan" Abdullah the Butcher w/"Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan by DQ when Abby started stabbing him with a fork. Super Strong Machine and Hiroshi Hase ran down to save their friend causing Sullivan to summon the Master Blasters. It took the entire security team to break up the brawl during the break.

Buffalo Soldiers (Ranger Ross &  Brickhouse Brown) defeat The Medics w/Dr Doom with the "Buffalo Stampede".

"Chief" Wahoo McDaniel defeats The Duke of Deception with the "Tomahawk chop".

Sean Mooney excitedly welcomes Silver King to the ring and the World Junior Heavyweight Champion enters to a nice pop. Through a translator, SK says he's proud to have brought the title home and is looking forward to facing the best America has to offer. Brian Christopher waltzes down and says it's great to hear the champ say that because he's been trying to get a title shot for ages but the champs kept ducking him. He's hoping SK would be "man enough" to give him what he's been hunting. SK says he'll gladly give Christopher a title shot if and when he earns it. Christopher starts to get agitated and says he doesn't have to "earn" anything, he's wrestling royalty damn it! He keeps poking SK in the chest which escalates into a shoving match which gets broken up before things can get out of hand.

"Russian Bear Ivan Koloff w "Number One" Paul Jones defeats Steve Bullock with the "Russian neckbreaker"

After what went down, hopefully we get an Abby/SSM match.

I'm a fan of the Buffalo Soldiers, so it's always good seeing them get a showcase.

I hope Budro gets back into title contention. I could see him and Garvin having some fun matches.

Wahoo beats one of the best jobber names I've seen LOL.

Looks like we have our first official NWA LHW championship feud. Good way to kick things off.

Uncle Ivan still has fuel in the tank.

I'm up for a Nightmares/Beasts rematch.

Worldwide,

Young starts like Too Cold and The Stud Stable gets in nice wins, while an old vet like JYD still gets it done as well.

Thanks to Jones, the Eliminators pull off a huge win. I'm sure Whatley and Valiant will be back for a lot more.

I really like the roster you have developed.  You have something for everyone.... The out-of-control heels with Sullivan at the helm, the hated managers in Fuller and Jones, the big time fan favorites chasing the heels like JYD and Wahoo, the big time guys who can do it all like Budro and Yameda, the rising stars like Too Cold.

Can't wait to see who goes over who in the NWA!  Great job.

Battlebowl.

We're one week away from the big event and everyone is hyping for all their worth. From veterans like Wahoo to young up-and-comers like Too Cold Scorpio to beasts like King Kong Bundy and crafty heels like Buddy Landel, they've all got one thing in common. Their all convinced they're the one walking out of Knoxville with a guaranteed shot at the Ten Pounds of Gold.

The Dark Crusade.

Sullivan and his madmen are seemingly determined to make life hell for the Japanese trio. They kept at it this week when after a showcase win, Super Strong Machine was attacked by Abdullah the Butcher with his infamous fork. SSM refused to give an inch and a few security guards were ko'd before the ensuing brawl was broken up.

Junior Heavyweight division.

Brian Christopher made his in ring debut and carried himself well before finishing his opponent with a full nelson facebuster called the "Chris-cross" before reiterating his demand for a shot at Silver King. He seems to have competition though as not only were Too Cold Scorpio and Lanny Poffo victorious in their individual outings, they both made reference to the newly reintroduced title.

Can't wait to see who wins Battlebowl. I always liked these concepts with a world title shot on the line.

Abby and SSM is going to be an explosive showdown!

I like what you're doing with the LHW division. You certainly have the talent to make it work.

Battlebowl

June 1, 1989

K Knoxville Civic Coliseum.

Airing live on the USA Network.

"Lethal Lottery" tag matches.

Brian Christopher & Jamie Dundee defeat Fatu & Firebreaker Chip when Dundee pinned Fatu with a sunset flip.

"Nature Boy" Buddy Landel & Big John Studd w/JJ Dillon & "The Perfect 10" Baby Doll defeat Billy Joe Travis & "British Magician" Steve Wright when Studd made Travis submit to a Bearhug.

Too Cold Scorpio & "Leaping" Lanny Poffo defeat Abdullah the Butcher & Super Strong Machine when the latter pair immediately started fighting each other and never made it into the ring.

"Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant  & Junkyard Dog defeat "California Stud" Rod Price & "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff w/"The Mastermind" Ron Fuller & "Number One" Paul Jones when JYD pinned Price with the "Thump" while Valiant and Koloff brawled around ringside.

"The Golden Warrior Kevin Von Erich & Blade defeat John Kronus & "Exotic Adrian Street w/"Number One Paul Jones & Ms Linda when Kronus passed out to the Von Erich claw.

Hiroshi Hase & "Handsome" Harley Race w/JJ Dillon defeat "Taskmaster Kevin Sullivan & "The Unpredictable" Dick Slater w/The Assassin when Hase pinned Sullivan with a crucifix.

Battlebowl order of entry.

1. Lanny Poffo.                                            2. Jamie Dundee.                                      3. Hiroshi Hase.                                          4. Kevin Von Erich.                                    5. Blade.                                                        6. Too Cold Scorpio                                  7. Buddy Landel                                          8. Jimmy Valiant.                                        9. Brian Christopher.                                10. Big John Studd.                                  11. Harley Race.                                          12. Junkyard Dog

Notable moments.

Blade enters and immediately charges Hase who instinctively backdrops him over the top rope for the elimination.

Scorpio and Poffo are jockeying for position near the ropes ending with Scorpio performing a suplex against the ropes that causes both men to fall out of the ring. A shoving match breaks out with security having to separate the two.

Big John Studd going on a rampage and tossing out five men in a row.

The final three are Landel, Race and JYD. The Horsemen double team for several minutes until a miscommunication sees Landel accidentally clothesline Race over the top rope. We're down to two. JYD & Budro brawl for a bit until the Dog whips Landel into the ropes for the "Thump" but Dillon thinks quickly and grabs his own man's leg. Dog rushes in but gets caught with a elbow to the face causing him to stagger back. Landel floors him with a disqus elbow then lands the Corkscrew elbow for the three count.

Winner of the 1989 Battlebowl: "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel!

Loved the random pairings here. My favorite had to be SSM and Abby LOL.

It was cool seeing the LHWs getting a good shine here.

Von Erich also looked strong by using his claw.

The battle royal was fun. Studd looked like a true giant. Seeds planted for a Scorpio/Poffo feud. JYD gets a good rub, but in the end, Budro takes it. I was hoping Landel would win because I think him and Garvin will be a big draw with the world title on the line.

Great event, very entertaining and a strong set up for your next pay per view.

The Horsemen United(?)

The group sent in a VTR from a high class resort where the celebration of Buddy Landel's victory in the Battlebowl, and guaranteed shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Title, was in full swing. A highly elated (and perhaps slightly inebriated) JJ Dillon crowed that it "was always the plan" to have the "Nature Boy" claim the title shot. Sharp eyed viewers would have noticed that this comment drew side eye from Harley Race though nothing came from it.

Junior Heavyweight Division.

NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Silver King made his in ring debut and easily dispatched his frankly overwhelmed opponent with the "Silver Driver" (Death Valley Driver). Brian Christopher made his way down while SK was celebrating and jaw jacked at him from the floor. SK welcomed Christopher into the ring even going so far as to hold the ropes open for him but the self proclaimed "wrestling royalty" declined.

Also of note in the division this week was the developing issue between Too Cold Scorpio and Lanny Poffo. After their dual elimination from Battlebowl an argument broke out between the two and a match was signed to settle their issue. They had a exciting encounter that had the fans attention for the entirety of its 10 minute time limit. After the time limit expired Scorpio tried to be a sportsman and offered a handshake only for a disgruntled Poffo to walk away.

NWA Heritage Title.

A six man tag between Jimmy Valiant, Shaska Whatley & Tommy Rich and the Paul Jones Army's Super Destroyer, King Kong Bundy & Ivan Koloff had a potentially game changing finish as Tommy Rich scored the pin on Super D. As Jones lead his men away, Rich was seen pointing at the Heritage champion and making the "belt around the waist" gesture.

Planting that seed with Harley was very nicely done.

I like what you're doing with the Jr. division. SK, Christopher, Poffo and 2 Cold could really get this division going.

I've always been a big fan of Tommy Rich IRL and in our world. So I'm excited to see him go after Super D's title.

Lots of cool things happening in the NWA.

Great American Bash updates

1. It's announced that before the ppv proper, there will be an hour long pre-show airing live on the USA Network. The show will feature predictions for the main card as well as exclusive matches.

2. One such match announced will be the "Land of Opportunity" battle royal. The winner will challenge Robert Fuller for the NWA United States Championship on the main card.

3. As the Bash draws ever closer everyone is scrambling to secure their place on the big show. This week saw two top teams face off for the right to challenge the Road Warriors for the NWA World Tag Team championships. With a timely distraction from their manager Baby Doll and some covert interference from Big John Studd Badd Company were able to beat out Buffalo Soldiers to earn their biggest opportunity in the NWA yet.

Good to catch up with the happening of the NWA... like the dirt sheet and quick clips to keep us up to date about what is going on.  Junior Heavyweight title always meant something when importance was put on it so I am looking forward to that being a big part of the NWA moving forward.  The Great American Bash looks like it is going to be gangbusters with a big battle royal and title matches on the horizon. One has to wonder if this will be a night that changes the course for the NWA or continues to raise the standard of who is who.

Summer and the NWA means Great American Bash time! OH YEA!

Love the idea of a pre show. Smart strategy by booking a battle royal with high stakes. Gives viewers an opportunity to see a lot of talent on free TV. With the winner getting a shot at Fuller's title on the pay per view, this also might get a few more buys. Great idea.

Badd Co. gets the title shot. Normally the Road Warriors would be big favorites, but with Studd and Baby Doll in Badd Co's corner, this changes things quite a bit.
