Is Meltzer still banging on about how Toni Storm is a future superstar? I never saw it.

Charlotte going for a pin on an opponent who was lying face-down was worse than anything Toni did. We've created a generation of wrestlers who are so focused on hooking the leg that they've forgotten the goal is to pin the opponent's shoulders to the mat.

TBF while I never saw anything in Toni Storm in NXT/WWE, some of her stuff from prior was pretty good. The problem seems to come from WWE having no idea how to market women characters outside of "athletic (which usually just means someone who did sports in college)", "snobby bitch", or "generic create-a-wrestler".

I don't watch Smackdown, but from what I've gathered from reading, podcasts etc . . is Storm getting "Mickie James'd", so to speak? Disappears from TV. Returns looking trimmed down. Confidence seemingly shaken. And now her gimmick is that she's into pies?

It's really impossible to separate Charlotte the character and person more than just about anyone in wrestling in recent years. And her booking has frequently intentionally been used to annoy fans that she gets preferential booking, so it all wraps back in on itself. It's pretty weird, really. Even if you ignore all the times she's lost her cool in the ring and semi-shot on co-workers on live tv.

It really seems like she's "worked herself into a shoot" as the Hulkster would say. Much like what happened with her dad it looks like Ashley Fleihr stopped existing and WWE character Charlotte Flair is now her life 24/7.

Maybe, but how much of that perception is from her being pretty much the only character on the shows where they explicitly portray her as being the same in "real life"?

This, exactly.  Somehow, her persona has come to represent an ouroboros of everything that's wrong with modern WWE, to an extent that even eclipses Brock and Roman.  For a company hellbent on keeping "superstars" smaller than the brand itself, they sure have a way of spawning toxic egos.

There is a spot where Kevin Owens has Big E in a boston crab (in a cage match?!) but during attempted escape Seth Rollins slams the door into their faces
