Loss Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 In late 1994 and through 1995, Al Snow became somewhat of a smark darling. What matches were the ones that really brought this on? Some will say the Benoit match in ECW, but the talk had started months before that. I'm just curious.
Resident Evil Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 There are the Sabu matches and than there's the other excellent Benoit vs Snow match which is a clinic on how to wrestle. I remember PWI calling Al Snow wrestling's best kept secret or something along those lines. That's what interested me in seeing his matches.
WrestlingPower Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 I think there was a Torch Annual feature on him around that time too. But the Sabu matches and matches he had on the same shows as Sabu that got distributed widely got him notice. He looked good at the NWA tourney as well which was right before ECW & SMW. The ECW run was only a few months as Cornette could offer him more dates, and I'm assuming more total $ as a result.
Dylan Waco Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Snow worked a lot of bigger northeast and midwest indies during that run. There is a shocking amount of random Snow fancam footage from the period floating around out there, a lot of which was pimped via one of the PWI advertisers pretty regularly. I would be a liar if I said I knew names or dates, but there was a famous"25 foot ladder match", the sabu matches, the aforementioned Benoit match and I think at least one highly touted match with the pre-Taz, Tasmaniac.
Indikator Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 His UFC appearance was probably the most important thing he did pre-WWF
Bix Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Wasn't his quip at UFC what got him the SMW gig, his first during that period as a actual pro wrestler with a gimmick who talked instead of TECHNICAL WORKRATE MARVEL?
Cox Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 It makes sense, since Cornette needed a new tag team partner/mouthpiece for Unabom after Eddie Gilbert burned his last bridge in wrestling (not that it would have mattered, since he died a month later anyway). Since everybody raved about his work, and he showed he could actually talk a little, it helped him get a job.
goodhelmet Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 His UFC appearance was probably the most important thing he did pre-WWF I don't know man, we just discovered an ICW tag match from about 1984 that has him squashed in a minute.
jdw Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Yeah, Al was a bit of a indy legend like Waltman, Lynn and Sabu. He was a darling before he even got to ECW. Paul sort of took him because he was a darling. I think you'll find a decent amount of him in the Here & There section of the WON in 1992-94 before he got there. As to what matches... someone out there must have put together a comp at some point. John
