I get it. Your comment just felt like a cheap shot at the people who asked for the WWE folder to begin with.

Uhh it's not like there was unanimous love for your mod vetted decision. I've seen more positive than negative reactions to this.

Wrestler whom found footage would excite you the most
goc replied to thebrainfollower's topic in Pro Wrestling
I read an interview with Ron Wright where he said he had one tape of a chain match along with some other tapes and a lot of photos in his basement but it got flooded and everything was ruined. He said after that, he pretty much has no footage of his own career. -
I actually did see both of those Baba matches when I was trying to watch 80s All Japan and enjoyed them quite a bit. I thought Baba & Race worked well together.

This coming from the same guy who blew off a date to record that podcast I like listening to Harley commentate on videos of his matches more than I actually like watching Harley matches. I have the same Harley comp you do (I think) and I tried to watch some but I just can't get into him. He's probably someone who is HURT by availability of footage because back when he was wrestling you wouldn't see so much of him that it exposed how often he did the same stuff.

The current WWE folder

You started too early on Atlantis, he's very hateable in that match but he gets a lot better.

Seconding Ron Wright as a manager. Whether from USA Championship in 88 or SMW he's ALWAYS a fun promo.

Anyone know anything about Paragon Pro Wrestling? I just read a story on 411mania about them getting a TV deal with Pop TV (formerly the TV Guide network)

I almost forgot about Emma. Has she even done anything since Santino disappeared?

Since you're not going to do a ballot (and that whole process seems to be forgotten about/in limbo anyway) you should just go through and hit the highlights. Watch anything with Satanico, Perro Aguayo, Sangre Chicana or Los Brazos. Watch the La Fiera vs Babyface match. Watch the incredible Arandu vs. Guerrero Negro hair match from 1988 that has one of the most dangerous looking crowds I've ever seen. There is a lot of good stuff there but I can see where it might be hard to get through all of the trios if you don't really like the style.

I've definitely seen the retirement match, I did like that but it was definitely more of an aberration than your typical All Japan match. I haven't seen the Funks vs. Sheik/Abby matches that you've been raving about. You've pimped them enough that they are on my watch list though.

Just out of interest goc, what Japanese wrestling have you watched? I found 80s (and then 70s and 90s) All Japan super-easy to get into, partly because there are a lot of familiar faces around (The Funks, Hansen, DiBiase, Gordy, etc.) and partly because the style is closer to something like Mid-South or Crockett than anything else. Think Wahoo or Garvin vs. Flair and there it is. I say this as one of the people who has found Lucha quite impenetrable. A lot of different stuff. I've tried to watch some of the 70s stuff with The Funks vs. Jumbo/Baba and couldn't get thru them without falling asleep. I watched some matches from the 80s All Japan set on youtube to see if I should get it. I didn't end up getting it. I did like 80s All Japan more than most of what I have seen but it still wasn't something I could see myself watching a lot of. Part of it is that most of the matches just feel too long with a lot of stuff in the beginning of the match that ultimately doesn't matter. I found Lucha to be far more in line with my tastes with colorful characters, heels that cheat and act like cowards, crazy bloody brawls, and I just feel like there is more of an emphasis on selling in lucha than what I've seen from Japanese wrestling. And this. I fucking hate this and I will pretty much just quit watching a match once this starts to get too stupid.

-Like Coffey, I also find NXT to be pretty boring. I really tried to give it a chance, I watched about 10 episodes leading up to the first Takeover event and then Takeover itself. I just don't get the hype. -I can't get into Japanese wrestling and I don't understand people who say it's closer to American wrestling than lucha is. I haven't seen a whole lot of no selling and stupid forearm/chop exchanges in lucha while I have seen way too much of it in my limited sampling of Japanese wrestling.

I haven't watched a whole lot of current wrestling this year, mostly just WWE PPVs. Based on that my pick would actually be Roman Reigns. I thought Reigns/Bryan was really good and Reigns/Lesnar blew me away with how great it was.

I read that recently as well, that they had to shave time off the main event and I thought "well good." WWE has a very bad habit of going too long in big matches. Oh since this thread is back up here I will just say I don't think there has ever been a match like Orton/Rollins where I didn't care about either guy and didn't really think they were having a good match but COMPLETELY popped me with the finish. The curb stomp into the RKO was beautiful.

I don't really like multi-man matches period. At least not in the current format where there are 2 guys wrestling each other while the other 1 to 6 people in the match are laying outside of the ring "selling."
-
Oh I definitely forgot that one. Not only do I not mind Kane, I kind of like him. I still enjoy him in some of his backstage stuff, especially when he's bickering with Big Show. I mean I don't really care about his matches but that's not different from the majority of the WWE roster. So yea, I'd still take Kane over a more popular guy like Dolph Ziggler who is like the worst promo in WWE.
-
-People hating on multi-man ladder matches but acting like a MITB cash in to ruin the main event of the biggest show of the year (and one of the best Mania matches ever) was the greatest idea of all time.

So I am sure most if not all of us run across popular opinions on the net, or frequent themes that we just don't understand or completely disagree with. This thread is where you can just confess all your 'sins' as a wrestling fan and get that weight off your shoulder. -I am actually not all that interested in discussions of best ever __. It's a very frequent theme on wrestling message boards to quantify who is the best wrestler today, who is the best promo, who is the best WHATEVER and I generally don't find the discussion interesting outside of when I can read about guys I don't know much about. -I am jealous of people like Dylan Waco and ohtani's jacket who seem to have an endless attention span when it comes to watching and analyzing wrestling. I feel accomplished when I just manage to watch 30 minutes in one sitting. -I am a fickle bastard in general, and in wrestling it is no different. It really doesn't take long for someone to go from being one of my favorites to being someone who I don't care about.

When a wrestler is in the process of a heel turn and ends up getting called out and challenged by his partner or friend. Leading to a match where he proclaims his innocence and begs for forgiveness only to win the match by cheating and celebrating like he's achieved the greatest victory of his life. See Chris Adams/Terry Taylor from the dying days of UWF as the best example. (I just watched another match in this category a few weeks ago but I can't remember for the life of me who was in it)

Vince is way better than Steph.
-
Well abusing a guy and killing his push is a pretty good way to get the fans behind someone these days so maybe they DO know what they are doing with Roman Reigns
-
This is the one thing I never really understood with people talking about how "WWE is going to fuck it up when they finally do the turn!" Well what exactly is Mizdow supposed to be once he breaks away from The Miz? Is he supposed to continue being fake Miz? Go back to being regular Damien Sandow? I mean there is nothing to fuck up, they got way more mileage out of that thing than they ever should have been able to.

I agree with tim.
