Based on what? Unless they go out of their way to find guys that they know have no business in the Octagon (like Punk) I can't see him beating a guy who has been training for a couple years, even if that guy has only fought a few local MMA fights.

I guess you could call me a "lapsed" UFC fan as I haven't really been paying much attention in the past 2-3 years. The best thing they could do with a PPV that has Punk on it is try and load it up with the most exciting fights they can to try and hook people like me who have kind of fallen out of watching but will be tuning in for the freak show aspect.

Thank you.

Since it's been brought up, can someone point me to where I can read more about Titanes? The little bit I have seen on youtube has kind of fascinated me with how bright and colorful everything is. I did find a really cool video that someone made that's essentially an entrance montage so you get to see a ton of the different characters that they had. And they had some wild ones:

Having only really dipped my foot into the lucha pool, a CMLL network would be pretty amazing to go back and fill in the blanks and watch some of the things that OJ wrote about that aren't on the set. I would sign up for that on day 1. That's not even considering footage quality upgrades over the things that are already out there.

I don't feel bad for the "UFC fighters whose spots he is stealing!" because whoever gets to fight him is going to come out of the fight with 100x more name recognition than when they went in. There's honestly no reason to expect Punk to be able to beat anyone, especially in a lower weight class. It's not like Brock coming in to fight heavyweight, which is generally the weakest division talent wise. I think it's kind of a silly move for Punk, but I know it's something he wanted to do, he talked about it ever since that interview with Ariel Helwani back before he left WWE. I don't think Punk is worried about getting beaten or embarrassed (although I expect he will) I think it's just an opportunity for him to do something he wanted to do. And for Dana White it's an opportunity to sell PPVs which is something he's been having a lot of trouble with lately. Honestly, I see it as a win for everyone involved. Even if I'm personally not interested at all while I was SUPER stoked to see Brock fight. One thing to keep in mind though is that Dana has already said he's not treating Punk like Lesnar and immediately throwing him in with the wolves. Dana will do everything he can to find him a tomato can for at least the first fight because Punk winning the first fight sets up an even bigger buyrate for the 2nd.

<Split> NJPW World - their version of the WWE Network
goc replied to Sean Liska's topic in Pro Wrestling
This isn't something that really interests me all that much, but having read quite a bit about it I hope that it lights a fire under WWE to really get their shit together with The Network. The fact that someone else has taken their idea and is arguably doing it better should hopefully give them motivation to start getting it right. -
I'm 29 here. My Dad liked wrestling so I ALWAYS watched wrestling as long as I can remember. I grew up a hardcore WWF fan, even though my Dad was a WCW guy and grew up going to Greensboro Coliseum shows. I was obsessed as a kid, I got every wrestling magazine, wrestling action figure, PPV, that I could talk my parents into buying. Had a very elaborate action figure federation that I kept a notebook of title changes and big cards for. After high school I started to get out of wrestling, especially after Brock Lesnar left and I only really followed wrestling through reading results. Around 2006 I moved into an apartment where I could get the old WWE 24/7 On Demand service and that got me back into wrestling as I started watching the PPVs on the 3 month delay they would have with 24/7. It's funny, with so many people saying that they stopped watching because of John Cena, he is actually the guy that got me interested again after a 3-4 year hiatus. I remembered reading long arguments about him on DVDVR so I thought I'd check him out and see what the big deal was, and I really liked the stuff he was doing in that time period. I think I started somewhere around the Umaga matches and I was a huge Cena fan. I started watching Smackdown and ECW (never Raw though) and was still watching WWE regularly until they killed off the ECW brand and ended the brand split at which point my interest took a huge nose dive and now I pretty much exclusively watch old footage. As for watching old footage, I'd pretty much never seen anything outside of WWF/WCW/ECW until getting the DVDVR Mid-South set at which point I became hooked and have acquired a stupidly large collection of old territory stuff.

Accepting that WWE is never going to do a War Games match if they WERE going to steal a WCW idea I kind of really want to see them do a King of the Road match...

I agree. They also should have been putting up all those HHH sitdowns with Cole that were on .com (may still be, haven't really been following), and every other new piece of video that they produce. Okay, YA GOT YOUR WISH! There is a bunch of YouTube content from November, the only regular show from the channel that is in the group I saw is Inbox, in the Originals programming under the "show" title As Seen On YouTube. Gosh, if they're going to just blatantly steal my ideas they should at least hire me

Just happened to watch this on youtube, along with the parody of Doug Gilbert & Tommy Rich from the week before. This is probably the best "impersonation" angle I've seen in wrestling, definitely better than some of the really lame ones from WWE over the years. The viagra joke, with the followup of asking Dave Brown if he wanted one had me laughing out loud. This is nice context to the infamous Doug Gilbert shoot.

Wow, I have never seen that mentioned anywhere about Slick being Rufus' son.

Definitely agreeing with this, had that match #1 for the AWA set.

Watching the lucha set, I just watched a Hair vs. Hair match between Arandu & Guerrero Negro from Monterrey that had one of the most insane crowds I've ever seen. It seems like the crowd is ready to break out in a riot after Guerrero Negro loses and afterwards Arandu has to fight his way from ringside to the back. Before that, Arandu's valet has to leave ringside due to a near riot breaking out DURING the match! Seems like hair matches just have a way of bringing out the riots, like when Jerry Lawler lost his Hair vs. Hair Cage Match with Austin Idol due to Tommy Rich's interference and Austin & Tommy couldn't leave the ring due to the crowd being so pissed. So along those lines, what are some of the most insane, out of control wrestling crowds that you've seen? I know there have to be some good examples out there from Puerto Rico with the reputation that territory had.

Kazma has been doing porn for a while now. Not much of a change though, she always sucked. I can't stop laughing.

CM Punk on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling

No. Yea, I think we're starting to dig a little too deep to find a story now. -
If they really wanted to mess with Punk they should try and shoehorn AJ into an onscreen relationship with Roman Reigns in the weeks before WrestleMania so she can be at ringside for the main event. Assuming they go with the rumored Reigns vs. Brock main event.

I can't wait for the micro analysis of AJ's booking!

For real. There's been too much of the "I know, but I'm not saying" schtick happening on the board lately. This. If you can't tell the whole story don't tell any of it. -
I love Eric Embry. That said...this music video is one of the reasons I can understand other wrestlers at the time being critical of him as the booker and top babyface:

We used to have a forklift at my job that didn't have a gear shift for forwards and backwards, the gas pedal was really big and if you pushed it on one side it was forward and the other side was reverse. We didn't keep that forklift very long.

Your ideas for heels that would get over today
goc replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
I know you don't watch modern WWE so you probably don't know that Daniel Bryan worked being a vegan into his heel character during his WHC run on Smackdown in early 2012 and it was great. -

Firing him on his wedding day and not treating his staph infection is fucked up. I'm not sympathetic to how pissed off he was because he never had to lose to The Rock. They gave him the option to lose the title to Daniel Bryan to avoid doing TWO things he didn't want to do: turn heel and lose to The Rock. He fucked himself out of his merchandise sales and put himself in the position to lose to a part timer which was something that he knew he didn't want to do.
