As much as I want to see the match between Bryan & Lesnar I think if they played it right they could have a much better story between Cena & Daniel Bryan and possibly an even better match in the ring. I know that a Bryan/Lesnar match is now or never but...

    Perro Aguayo

So I found this AWESOME Cage match between Sangre Chicana and Perro Aguayo on youtube. I see that slambamjam.com has at least 1 Cage match between the two of them listed as 91-92 but the youtube comments are saying this took place in the 80s so I'm not sure if this is that same match or not. Anyway this match is incredible, lots of great punch exchanges in this one. Apparently in Mexico the Cage matches are escape rules as they work a lot of spots around keeping the other guy from climbing out. The referee is a big pain in the ass in this one and both guys decide they have had enough of his shit and just kick his ass! He ends up with his shirt and pants ripped up and they wrap his clothes around their fists and go back to fighting each other! If someone had done that to Tommy Gilbert in Mid-South it'd have been an immediate #1 ranking. No idea if this Cage match is well known but I'm sure at least one person who is going to read this hasn't seen it and you should watch it: EDIT: youtube killed the account but I just re-uploaded it. Luckily I'd saved that vid.
  4. This set feels like it's just flown totally under the radar. Some of that has to do with the split where a lot of people quit cross posting here and DVDVR but it also feels like the deadlines weren't really pushed and harped on like previous sets. As far as quality though I would say I enjoyed this set a whole lot and I've been grabbing matches off youtube left and right of guys like Chicana, Aguayo & Los Brazos lately. I can't say I enjoyed this more than Mid-South or Memphis because I really love the overall package of promos & angles but the top matches on this set would contend with any of the other top matches from the sets I've participated in.
  5. Liked this a lot. Had never seen that Arn interview with Ventura, really enjoyed that. Disappointed you didn't have video of Lawler throwing a fireball from his kitchen though.
  6. Dave does creative writing AND extremely dated references in the letters section:

  8. Another interesting concept in appealing to the hardcore fan of the mid-90s:
  9. Dave's take on the finish of Undertaker/Yokozuna at Royal Rumbe 1994: And Dave should show more respect for journalism!
  10. Yep, that is Ultimate Muscle. I really did not expect it to be so good when I first checked it out, but it's actually pretty funny. A lot of jokes playing on wrestling tropes and characters. I'd recommend it to just about anyone on this board.
  11. Yea but it seems like he can't help himself but to go off on Vince Russo, Jim Herd or "why I hated Connecticut" rants so I'd prefer him not to even go beyond Crockett selling the company since I've heard everything he has to say about his WWF, SMW & WCW days by this point.
  12. Cornette is fine as long as you don't ask him to talk about stuff that happened after 1988.
  13. Ah I didn't take into account that WCW was doing more than 4 PPVs a year by 93. I think they had 7 that year.
  14. Yea, a guy who debuted in February of 93 was probably only starting his first real program by June or July after a few months of squash matches and interviews to get him over.

  16. In sticking to my wrestling New Year's Resolution I decided to youtube some Babe Face matches, thinking he was one of the lucha guys I liked but didn't expect to find more than an hour or two of footage on youtube, and thus I could essentially check that name off my list. Watched two trios matches one of which was Babe Face, Negro Casas & Rambo vs. Villano I, IV & V. It was a pretty fun trios, nothing great but it had some fun rudo miscommunication spots and some cool double team moves by the Villanos so it was worth the 15 minutes. The second match was just the first fall of a trios match between Babe Face, ERIC EMBRY & Dan Green vs. Fishman, El Faraon, & Tamba. Tamba is an Abdullah clone who actually looked like he might have been pretty good in the ring. This isn't anything too great but the Eric Embry/Tamba stuff was good.
  17. I agree, it's absolutely the best Flair/Vader match you were ever going to get.
  18. Jim Cornette is really good on the Crockett Diaries but man the Highspots guys barely even edited that thing. Parts where Cornette clearly cues them to do an edit they don't edit, with stuff like him restarting stories multiple times. Not to mention you can't hear them asking questions so you have these long spots where they are prepping Cornette to do his next spiel but you can't hear it.

I think Bryan vs Rusev would probably be one of the best matches WWE can do, but it would be seen as big step down for Bryan to be U.S. champion and I think would hurt him unless they had a really good idea for how to get the belt off him in a quick fashion.

The only actual scenario I can see a Reigns backlash is having him and Bryan both in the Rumble, which I would have thought they would have been smart enough to avoid if they really wanted Roman be the "the guy." Batista was just a dude to come back for a little while so fucking him up didn't really have long term consequences. I would hope they would put more thought into how they are going to book their 29 year old "future ace." I think they are going to be stuck on the idea that Bryan "can't" beat Lesnar. Originally the plan was for Bryan to be the guy to get destroyed by Lesnar at SummerSlam and I'm not sure if he would have even gotten the rematches that Cena got. I'm thinking that Vince doesn't see him as big enough to be credible against Lesnar. Otherwise I'd say the best scenario is Bryan/Lesnar and Reigns/Rusev on the undercard to still give Reigns a big moment.
  21. Well of course it would have been more positive at the time, it still had the emotion and drama of the stipulation. People looking back at it years later don't have that.

They should have also had Sting on that show. I think when he does show up on Raw now the reaction isn't going to be nearly as hot as it could have been had they done it after Survivor Series.
  23. Dave didn't influence the voting though and from what he wrote they essentially had promoted Starrcade 93 as a one match show going into it. I don't think it's all that surprising it won all the votes it was far and away the biggest match on the card and it delivered in the ring and as an emotional moment.
  24. This bit from the Observer after Starrcade '93 made me laugh because I've NEVER seen this kind of unanimous voting in the Observer post PPV polls:
  25. Watching some Gulf Coast from the 70s today and I just saw a match with Dutch Mantel working as Dutch Bass the kayfabe brother of Ron Bass. I had no idea Dutch and Ron worked as a kayfabe brother team. Also stumbled upon a guy named Frank Stanley who surely is the illegitimate father of Buddy Landel. Watch just a minute of him and tell me that doesn't fit.
