  1. Sheamus made a lot more ballots than I would have expected with the way the modern smark consensus is that he's "boring." Good for him though, he would have made my 150.
  2. There is definitely some old footage from L.A. TV (think 50s-60s) that is floating around that isn't all clipped up but I don't know how much of it exists. I have a 2 DVD comp of Freddie Blassie that is taken from that stuff.
  3. Yea Scott Steiner is one of the few people whose case is helped by TNA work and he also had a really cool run in Ring Ka King as recent as 2012.
  4. Even though PWO is kind of the "home" of NWAClassics discussion the percentage of people on the board who are watching it doesn't really seem THAT high. Add in all the people who aren't PWO regulars who sent in ballots from hearing about it on twitter & podcasts, with a lot more focus apparently paid to modern wrestling, Gino's placement doesn't really surprise me. I think Gino & Lothario's placements are really quite good since most of it is being based on recent finds.
  5. Just lost 3 of my guys: Abby did pretty well considering he is pretty much the "anti-workrate" candidate. Gino was definitely helped out by the NWAClassics footage. If anyone deserved to be called "a natural" in pro wrestling it's Gino who was an incredible heat magnet and seemed to have it all figured out VERY early in his career. It's a shame he didn't maintain that level later on outside of Houston but we all know why. Super Porky's quote is accurate. I could watch him all day, especially in his late 80s-early 90s prime.
  6. I regret not putting Batista on my list, he was a last minute cut but I like him a lot.
  7. Pretty sure I was the #94 vote on Mil Mascaras. I'm surprised he did as well as he did actually.
  8. Inoki is the other guy to point to besides HHH and I guess would not be quite as contentious because most people seem to agree that the great Inoki matches are truly great.
  9. I wanted to vote for Ladd but couldn't justify it to myself. Glad he did well though because I really like him.
  10. Is that a picture of Mick McManus or Barnabas Collins?
  11. The goal is simply to put smiles on people's faces.
  12. I don't know if Shane/Taker is really THE worst PPV match of all time but from an expectations/hype level it is. I can't think of any other match people were that excited about (why I never understood, but they were) that failed to deliver. And not just failed to deliver but delivered an overly long, extremely boring joke of a match. Sure there is stuff from the old Heroes of Wrestling PPV that can probably compete on a disaster level but that happened in front of 2,000 people on an event that no one really cared about, not in front of 97,000 people in the most hyped match on the card of "the biggest WrestleMania of all time"
  13. Yea I ranked Condrey pretty high and didn't have Stan anywhere except my tag ballot. And HHH does not have the best Khali match. That award goes to John Cena.
  14. Good booking while Shane is "in charge" of the show and HHH is off TV? Clearly this is something that needs to be over analyzed.
  15. You clearly didn't watch his WWECW run then.
  16. I think Goldberg is a better wrestler than Sydal. You're wrong but you are entitled to your wrong opinion.
  17. Goldberg was too high. Sydal did pretty well all things considered. I voted for him pretty much solely based on his WWE run but I did watch a few of his more recent matches just to see if he was still really fucking good (he is)
  18. I think that presentational style is part of it and adds to the confusion actually. The replays and so on in the middle of matches serve to compound the sense of "I literally don't have a fucking clue what's happening here". I do not get that feeling with any other pro wrestling, including shoot style, which I can follow easy enough but just don't like. I really don't understand what's confusing about that. They are 2 out 3 falls matches, they show replays in between the falls (and they are clearly marked as replays with that flashing R in the corner) during the "rest period." Is that any more confusing than Portland having long breaks between falls where guys who were still in the middle of the match might cut promos?
  19. I don't know why you would ever rewind to see a finish of a fall in lucha considering how they replay that stuff for you.
  20. I think it's part that and from the little I have seen of it, it didn't seem like Santo really did a whole lot to change his style to wrestle more "dirty." And in the three way with Casas & Dandy I thought they really didn't do a smart job of laying out the match to get the crowd to boo Santo. I understand that Dandy & Casas would both want to go after him but when you're trying to turn the crowd against a big babyface like that, having him get beat up in a 2 on 1 situation is not smart booking.
  21. Count me in to the "I don't get what's so incomprehensible about lucha" crowd. Yea there is an adjustment period where you have to get used to the tropes when you first watching it but that's really not any different than if you'd never seen anything but WWE and started watching any other kind of wrestling. I've found it far more comparable to U.S. wrestling than Japan because lucha puts such an emphasis on characters while so much of Japan is about who is the tougher tough guy.
  22. Shameful. The Nightmares needed your vote!
  23. shoe wtf how could you not rank The Guerreros? (among others) Or are you just talking about as singles?
  24. I didn't even know you were on the Lothario bandwagon. Seems like the only thing you get hyped about on NWAClassics is DiBiase matches.
  25. Damn Haku made a lot more ballots than I would have thought. I fucking loved him in the King Tonga stuff I've seen from Montreal. If he'd have been that guy his whole career he could have finished in my top 25. As Haku/Meng I just didn't feel there was enough there.
