Well when Ambrose is competing with Dolph Ziggler for weakest looking offense in the WWE that's kind of the only option they have. It's not like he can go out and have a match like Reigns/Lesnar last year where it looked like two dudes really beating the shit out of each other. Everything Ambrose does looks super soft.

They still have Texas Death Matches in WWE. They are just called Last Man Standing matches. But a Street Fight is a better stipulation because even though most people already think Dean has no chance of winning, at this point is there anything people would believe would put Brock down for a 10 count in a LMS match?

If I were doing a ballot I know I would probably rank Perro over Pirata but that's only really based on the 80s set and a handful of matches I've seen on youtube since. Even 55 year old Perro who is broken down still captivates me watching a match that ostensibly isn't very good like a 3 way Dog Collar Hair vs Hair match with Sangre Chicana and El Cobarde #2.

I'm not a Dean fan at all but they really did give him two AWFUL finishes right on top of each other.

Are you drunk? This is the Perro Aguayo thread.

I realize it's a little late and probably not enough to get him on your ballot anyway but just thought I'd recommend the Brazo de Plata/Oro vs. Perro Aguayo & Gran Hamada tag match I watched last night. I don't know if I would call it a great match but it was a lot of fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0_GlZdfWhk

Anyone who thinks that Dolph Ziggler is better than Reigns, much less an "amazing worker", deserves to get trolled by WWE.

I feel like he might actually be the most underutilized guy on the WWE roster. So underutilized that no one even seems to realize how good he is to complain that they should be doing more with him. During the time I was watching Superstars to see Chris Masters matches he was the only other guy I would make sure not to skip over if he also had a match on the show.

This isn't new though. Jericho has always blown a lot of stuff trying to be more athletic than he really is.

Oh good I can say HHH before everyone else. It's worth sacrificing his good run in 2000-2001 to not have to go through everything since then. Honorary mention to "Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal who is just the most boring do nothing wrestler ever. But he's easily avoidable and had no real lasting impact on wrestling except to disappoint people looking for the good Steve Regal on youtube and finding him instead.
-
Yea there's no big secret about Montreal. Apparently HHH was the first guy who brought up the idea of a screwjob and Gerald Brisco came up with the idea of Shawn using the Sharpshooter.

Ron Starr just cracked me up in a promo from 1985 Atlantic Grand Prix "smartening the people up" about how their used to be a King of Wrestling named Jerry Lawler but he put him out of wrestling with a piledriver and that's how he became the new King.

Yea this is why I eventually decided I couldn't do a singles list. I just like watching TV wrestling way more than I like trying to watch just for great matches. The only time I can really do that is for one of the DVDVR 80s sets and mostly because those are laid out in chronological order so you can still see feuds build and progress.

If nothing else he had really great tights

Shawn at that period had one of the worst presentations of a top babyface ever. That was during the time period where he would do strip teases after winning matches. Not exactly the best way to ingratiate yourself with a predominantly male audience.

Watched a few Pat Roach matches today thanks to Dylan's post and REALLY enjoyed them. He does a lot of cool judo throws but also has some nasty looking forearm smashes and an awesome big boot. He feels like a really good "gateway" into WoS for people who have had trouble getting into the style.

I felt like watching some Mexican mini matches so I started with the matches Loss recommended in the Espectrito thread and damn this match was a ton of fun. Espectrito just murders Mascarita Sagrada with a running boot in the 2nd fall that looks as violent as any big boot I've ever seen in wrestling. The whole match felt like non-stop action and the ending got pretty crazy especially Sagrada's dive.
-
And you need to watch the Bull Pain women's prison match to wash away the stink of those 2000 era indy crowds
-
Yea I need Parv write-ups on Colin Delaney squashes.
-
Make sure to watch the Unforgiven 2005 Cage match with Edge.

Sarcasm is fun. I do understand that the journey is more the point of this project than the end result. I probably won't end up submitting a list now, especially since some people seem to be dismissing lists submitted by non-pwo regulars before they see them. But the process has been valuable to me already since I discovered that I absolutely love World of Sport. Why are you so worried about those "some people" as if their opinions somehow invalidate yours? Especially when the guy who keeps trying to push his "I'm the only really objective person" narrative has totally discounted certain styles of wrestling?
-
Booking never did him any favors but I just don't think he was a guy who could have been a big star in WCW or WWE. Part of what made him special in ECW is that he was bigger than almost everyone else on the roster which wasn't the case in the Big Two. He also couldn't wrestle the same style of match he'd been doing in FMW & ECW. Add in that he wasn't all that great of a talker and it's tough to see how he could have really had a sustained run as a top guy.
-
I am still not really entirely convinced to be honest, having lived it in real time. Phrases like "doesn't personally connect with me", and so on are pretty convenient get out clauses You mean like how you did with lucha?
-
If you think he's one of the best 100 wrestlers ever, despite not wanting to watch him, then you should rank him. If you don't think he's one of the 100 best wrestlers ever then you shouldn't rank him.

Get over wrestlingforum.com! I use that as a barometer for the lowest common denominator WWE fan. When Dolph Ziggler still gets good reactions then I know that there must just be a lot of really stupid people going to WWE shows and wrestlingforum.com seems to be a place where a lot of them congregate.
