So my big takeaway from the first couple of shows other than Io Shirai is awesome is that I really like Hiroyo Matumoto. Her inring work seems really strong, I like her personality and her promos seem really strong.

Thanks for the rundown. I'm fairly new to modern joshi. Most of what I've watched is 80s AJW.

They also present the division in the worst way possible, where it gets it's own TV episode once every few months and then never gets mentioned. The angles thus have no flow, and it makes that episode of TV a huge bummer (because they're not going to progress any of the other stories at all). The problem with their women's division is when they do get someone that's pretty good like a Mary Dobson they are instantly job fodder for shitty Kelly Klein or Mandy Leon. That's really the problem with Women of Honor. Their top talent is Kelly Klein, Mandy Leon, Veda Scott and Taeler Hendrix. Out of those 4, the only one I would ever seriously considering using as a top of a division talent is Taeler.

I'm curious since you seem to watch everything. If you had to rate the promotions right now how would that look?

I find it very offensive that Iron Mike Sharpe was snubbed here.

Which wrestling manager was the most beneficial to his clients?
Mad Dog replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
Isn't Heyman at this point in WWE more about latching onto guys that are already at the top and just getting some of that sweet main event money? Sure, he's a good mouthpiece for them but they already did all the work of getting to the top. -

I think to further support JJ, he had Ron Bass and Black Bart swimming in gold before the Horsemen as well. He also protected his clients by bringing in various outsiders to take out Dick Slater for them. -
I really liked what they did in 2014 and up until October of 2015. When it became apparent that they weren't going to seriously push Moose or Castle I started to lose interest. Then the product got stagnant as 2016 progressed and the lazy use of TV didn't help that. Now it feels like it did during Cornette's run.

Yeah, Evie worked Mayu's back a lot in that one. I worked my way through the next show which had Viper winning a gauntlet and Shirai, Mayu and Hojo beating Team Hyper Destroyer for the Artist belts in a really fun trios match. I'm really digging this promotion after 2 shows. It's just ridiculously fun.

I liked the Garrett/Hojo match from 2/21 a lot. That was a really good match.

I vote for don't have them. If you can't have a division of quality women then don't bother. It feels like their division is made up of castoffs that no one else wants.

The roster has been a constant source of frustration for me the last couple of years. I went to a show last summer and they had a 10 minute Beer City Bruiser vs. Cheeseburger match. Why? If you're running that in the middle of a house show, you have some serious issues with your roster. There are just so many guys out there that you could bring in who would fill out the cards nicely. Why not give someone like Sugar Dunkerton a shot? He has charisma and he's decent in the ring. I would be more interested in that than the millionth thing BJ Whitmer is doing that no one cares about.

I thought the Evie/Iwatani match from 2/21/16 was a fun little romp. Evie I've seen a few times and she's solid.

There's the Chicago archive on YouTube that has a lot from that era. I know it was really popular on the DuMont Network. You also had guys like Thesz, Rogers, Rocca, Valentine, Gagne, Longson, Hutton, etc. all kicking around at once. There seems to be a large amount of star power in the 50s.

DuMont Network?

I decided to just start with the first show of 2016 and move my way forward. It also helped that it had some American talent I'm familiar with like Evie and Skater. I still have the two main event matches to go but I've had a lot of fun with the show so far. I like the Stardom vs. the World aspect and I thought most of the matches have been fun at worst and I liked the Evie/Iwatani and Diemond/Matsumoto matches quite a bit.

I might just go back to the oldest show and move forward. I did see that the matches are divided out so I will go with the matches you recommended and go from there.

Okay, I signed up for Stardom. What's a good show to start with?

The 80s are my first instinct but when I took a moment and really thought about it, I think the 90s are probably a better decade for me. I love 80s wrestling but the 90s just has so much variety and so many promotions that you can get lost in. You can watch SMW, ECW, FMW, GWF, USWA and WAR and you haven't even scratched the surface of the more mainstream promotions like WCW, WWF, CMLL, AAA, AJPW and NJPW. Plus, I think the 90s are an interesting decade as you see the TV product evolve and the modern formula take over. Likewise, I think the 2010s are extremely strong in the variety category. The sheer volume of promotions that you have access to and the quantity of good wrestling on a show by show basis is just absurd. You could just decide that you were going to watch the online TV run of Championship Wrestling From Hollywood and have 6 or so years of weekly TV to watch.

I've decided I'm going to subscribe to Stardom's service and give the promotion a chance.

Evolve before was 20 a show, and you get 2 Evolve shows a month. Plus more The problem there is I already thought Evolve was too expensive and this doesn't help that. And FIP and Shine do nothing for me. I do get what you're saying. You're saving $10 and that is a big deal. I guess I don't see the draw for someone like me that wants to get into Evolve but doesn't necessarily want to pay a lot in the process.
-
So I decided to check this out after reading this thread and the other thread. I don't understand the logic of wanting $20 a month for this or the large up front payment. For what they want for this service, I could subscribe to 2 or 3 other services and get more content. I don't see the value in what they're selling at this point.

Has wrestling gone overboard with the various streaming services?
Mad Dog replied to rzombie1988's topic in Pro Wrestling
i'm curious, what caused the $100+ increase when reviewing the same stuff? If anything, streams have cut down on VOD/DVD purchases [Mad Dog's point above]. Cable is already quite expensive, but I think it's clear every promotion is going to be doing VOD soon. Some are just going to take longer than others. It's going to add up unless they start consolidating. I don't pay that now, but I can see it getting near that point. I'm a cord cutter. Playstation Vue costs me $45 a month and gives me all the channels I need.
