Random question I know, but I don't really have any recollection of Dave covering Michinoku Pro or BattlARTS, well, ever. Did he? If he didn't, is there a reason he didn't?

In his appearance, yes, but in his work in the ring, no.

This is one of my favorite AJ tags so far. It's as good as any U.S. tag in '92 except the Doc/Gordy vs Steiners match. It's a really fast-paced heavyweight spotfest. Doc/Gordy matches can occasionally have a slow start, but this was just lots of bomb throwing and a great pace for 25+ minutes. Great stuff.

If I had the energy, I'd do a full analysis of the WON against all the standards to which he holds wrestling and MMA companies. Drawing new fans, pushing talented performers, thinking outside the wrestling bubble, operating ethically, making good business decisions, etc. He's guilty of quite a few things he accuses wrestling promoters of being guilty of.

[1992-10-07-JWP] Mayumi Ozaki & Cutie Suzuki vs Dynamite Kansai & Hikari Fukuoka
Loss replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
This took a while to grow on me, but it eventually did. I thought everyone gave an inspired performance, particularly Oz and Kansai, but really everyone. I really like Ozaki's mean streak. In some ways, she reminds me of a younger Devil Masami. Great final stretch with some great action, a different and more aggressive style than AJW. Ozaki pins Fukuoka with a powerbomb. -
[1992-10-04-PWFG-Stack of Arms] Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs Zaour Chabadze
Loss replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Gotta love the smirk on Fujiwara's face, along with his general arrogance, during most of this. More of a spectacle than most PWFG, which is a nice change of pace, because this style is starting to test me.- 12 replies

[1992-10-04-PWFG-Stack of Arms] Naoki Sano vs Jerry Flynn
Loss replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
The January match is way better than this one. It had more time to develop, and there was far more excitement and meaningful shifts in momentum. This is a perfectly fine match, but there's nothing really special about it compared to everything else going on at the time. The last 2-3 minutes are great, but the early stuff really isn't. -
[1992-10-04-PWFG-Stack of Arms] Joe Malenko vs Georgui Galdava
Loss replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Short match, but a cool display of what Joe Malenko can do. Galdava looks pretty good too. -
Great match! Barry and Dustin have been involved three of the four best U.S. tags of the year -- this, SuperBrawl II and the Rude/Austin match at the GAB. This goes about 25 minutes on free TV and would have been aided by Doc and Gordy heeling it up more than they did, as the Center Stage crowd is pretty quiet. But aside from that, this is extremely well-worked. I love the arm work on Doc and Gordy in the beginning, along with the out of nowhere lariats from everyone at different times depending on what's happening in the match. Doc and Gordy are reliable of course, but this is really a great performance from the babyfaces more than anything, and the swan song for the MVC in WCW. Deserves a full walk-through sometime and would be in the top handful of matches to ever air on a Saturday evening on TBS. Post-match, they start laying the groundwork for Windham to turn heel, as Barry is holding all the gold and Jim Ross is giving Dustin all the credit for the win. I love that they made a huge deal of the title change.

The most historic night in the history of this great sport
Loss replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
To that point, what's amazing is the box office the summer after Mania. Crockett was booming because War Games drew, to a point where they were outdrawing the WWF in some markets. The Crockett inner circle seemed to take this as a sign that they were overtaking Vince, but in the WON at the time, Dave even pointed out that the difference is that the WWF still had tons of untapped programs by fall, where in the NWA, by fall, War Games would be over and nothing new would be on the horizon. That proved itself accurate, as fall of '87 saw a major decline in television ratings and arena business for JCP. Not a good lead-in to Starrcade. -

[1992-10-03-WCW-Saturday Night] Cactus Jack & The Barbarian training
Loss replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Cactus is not a manager, he's a motivator! Barbarian pulls a pickup truck to train for Havoc. Good stuff. Cactus as a trainer I always thought was a unique idea that worked.- 7 replies

[1992-10-03-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Shane Douglas
Loss replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
They push the connection to Magnum TA hard, which would have worked way better in 1987 when Magnum was more known to the fanbase. Watts would eventually figure out who was who and sort things out, but he really seemed to have dated ideas of who was worthwhile talent and who fans saw as players at first.- 11 replies

Good match, one of the better WCW TV matches of the last half of the year so far. Without commercials, this probably went closer to 21-22 minutes. Most of these guys had worked each other many times throughout '92, so they are comfortable enough to have a decent match. I wish we could have seen more of Eaton, because he doesn't really do much compared to Rude and Arn. If there's anything that keeps this from being great, it's that they spent too much time clowning around early on, so the finish ended up a little rushed as a result. Otherwise, really good.

Bob Armstrong fines DWB $2500, the maximum amount he can fine without having to go before the Board of Directors. Jim Cornette quickly interrupts him with a note from a lawyer that says he can't sign a title match against the Rock & Roll Express as long as the Bodies are giving other teams that have never gotten a title shot a title shot. Armstrong vows to get to the bottom of this.

The Horner angle is too similar to the Garvin/Orndorff angle to be happening at the same time. Horner runs out in his Zubaz pants to exact revenge during DWB's interview. DWB ends up breaking a bottle over his head and he's knocked out. His wife comes out to help him. While seeing Horner get beat up doesn't really ever get old, this feud is pretty one-sided in Tony's favor.

[1992-10-03-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler vs The Moondogs (Handicap)
Loss replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Jeff Jarrett isn't around, and Lee is insisting that they have their match for the tag titles now, so Lawler agrees to fight alone. The Moondogs end up winning the tag titles in a short match. Dundee and Pritchard (He's still here???) make the save when they attack Lawler after the match. -

We see clips from the fair of Lawler and JYD fighting the Moondogs. Funny to see this brawl happening with a giant ferris wheel in the background.

[1992-10-03-WWF-Superstars] Bob Backlund feature / Interview: Razor Ramon
Loss replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Bruno Sammartino in the last segment and Bob Backlund in this one. Were the WWF and WCW in a time warp or what? Backlund is an oddly fascinating guy though. This segment feels more like Watts-era WCW than 1992 WWF though. Razor then comes out for a short interview with Gene Okerlund. -

[1992-09-26-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Bruno Sammartino
Loss replied to Loss's topic in September 1992
Bruno talks about how wrestling has taken such a hit in the last few years, but WCW seems to be bringing wrestling back to what it was at one point, and he's excited again. He talks about coming to the U.S. during World War II, which is fascinating, and talks about how the victory over Rogers in '63 was the highlight of his career. They announce that Bruno and Tony will be co-hosting Halloween Havoc.- 8 replies

[1992-09-26-WCW-Saturday Night] Dustin Rhodes vs Jake Roberts
Loss replied to Loss's topic in September 1992
If all wrestling matches were this basic, but executed those basics so well, I'd be happy with all the wrestling I watch. There's nothing really extraordinary about the layout, but the standard opening babyface armbar stuff feels way more important than it normally does in these matches because of Jake's selling. I love the fakeout knee injury to turn the tide spot pretty much every time it's done. Jake wins cleanly with the DDT, but Dustin looks good for pushing him so far. Good stuff. Jake's interview after the match where he talks about the other programs in the company besides his own tells me Watts had big plans for him until he self-destructed yet again.- 14 replies

Robert Fuller's promo about the decline of rock and roll due to drugs and alcohol, calling himself a God-fearing Christian, is a MUST SEE. Ron Wright is then interviewed by Bob Caudle. He says Tim Horner has hounded him more than any bill collector ever has! He would love to sign a contract to give Tim Horner a title shot, but he has arthritis so bad in his hand that he can't even sign a contract! DWB ends up attacking Horner from behind and handcuffs him so he can slap him around. Then he puts a noose around his neck and drags him around the ringside area. Part of me liked this and part of me saw this as a really overly desperate attempt to get Horner over.
