They do. It's just that nobody knows when/how they got that, the USWA Dallas/USWA Challenge stuff, and the GWF stuff. There was no announcement, nothing singled out in investor reports or SEC filings, etc. It just showed up.

Probably the former. When it comes to VHS there's not really a whole lot upgrading you can do, as opposed to film. Definitely not VHS.

[2000-04-22-WCW-Worldwide] PG-13 & The Frog vs Jung Dragons
Bix replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
Frog was Toad from OMEGA, SCW, and other southern Indies. -
He told me he gave it 5 3/4 *. I can't find it in the old observers and I always thought the 6* was Jeff Bowdren.

It's about narrative shorthand and genre conventions, not realism.

Jim Steinman wrote and produced that Hogan track, which he quickly recycled (as in the actual session tapes) for Bonnie Tyler: https://soundcloud.com/david-bixenspan/hulk-hogans-theme-bonnie-tyler-ravishing-a-comparison

Maybe because I'm not southern and I'm used to guests with bad mics and background noises but I honestly didn't notice that at all. -
Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
Bix replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
The Dave stuff started as shtick on Bruce's part. That's something I know as an absolute fact. At this point he probably considers it a trademark part of the show like singing "With my Baby Tonight." -
Can't you at least add something constructive? CNN didn't dox anyone. I have friends who work there while the company is being besieged with death threats. Come live in the real world.

I've been neglecting this thread a bit: 10 Years Ago, WWE Killed Vince McMahon In Its Most Ridiculous Storyline Ever 10 Years After The Chris Benoit Killings, Pro Wrestling Still Can't Fix Itself Women In Wrestling Have Taken A Hard Road To Get To Where They Are Now Samoa Joe Can't Be Stopped Enjoy.

But your point is moot; the sex tape post did nothing to hurt Hogan's livelihood. The transcript of the racist comments did that, and that came out almost three years later. There is no justification for the $100 million compensatory damages award in this case. There's not just the wrongful death comparisons, but also that Hogan made no case for the type of emotional distress that warrants large awards (lack of medical & psychological treatment, etc.). There's a lot of grey area and nuance, which is why Brian cost it as a documentary topic. But even if it never happened, Thiel would have been funding every possible case in an attempt at death by 1,000 cuts via legal fees.

Just to be clear with regards to the Playboy stuff: 1. The Mimi thing I do think it's worth a mention if you're discussing it because everyone is going to think you're saying she was naked. The sentiment of it was not "Yeah, FUCK Magnificent Mimi!" as much as "don't expect anything that's not there" because "posed for Playboy" conjures something specific. 2. The Sable thing that's come up a couple times when her Playboy shoot is mentioned in the notes is more that we find it funny that Howard Stern was so easily able to spot entirely airbrushed pubic hair. And asked her about it. And she answered truthfully. Because nothing I just mentioned world ever come close to happening today. -
So...this GIF/clip was around before 2 weeks ago, right? Everyone is tracing it to that one Reddit post 2 weeks ago, but I'm fairly sure I saw it both on wrestling sites and in mainstream news comment sections months ago. No idea how to prove it, though.

Isn't that the start of all loving relationships? I can't recall 100%, but wasn't it implied as part of the heel turn that she was in on the whole thing and so that part was staged though? Could just be making that up, as my brain is hurting thinking about it! I think one of the most uncomfortable moments I can remember was the Allison Danger/Bobby Dempsey/Larry Sweeney incident from ROH. This was at the time when Bobby Dempsey was an under card trainee guy who was being berated for being fat and was under Sweeney's control. From memory, Danger is a guest on a Sweeney talk show item where he basically berates her for being a slut. Sweeney then knocks Danger out and tells Dempsey 'to be a man' and feel her up. When he says no, Sweeney then knocks him out and he falls on her in a 69 position or something. If that's not 'subtle' enough, we then get Sweeney kicking Dempsey to make it look like he's having sex with her. I haven't seen it in a long time so I can't remember what the crowd reaction was, but part of me worries that some people may have been cheering... after it, Gabe came out and apologised and said they were just dropping all reference to it and moving on. It makes you wonder how anyone thought it was a good idea in the first place. Gabe was frustrated by the fans' complete refusal to boo Sweeney. That was at least the initial reason for wanting to do a "heavy" angle. How it moved from there to the booked angle, I have no idea.

The reaction has been twofold: 1. The president thinking he pwn3d CNN by tweeting a meme. 2. The argument that he's inciting violence against CNN employees. I can see both arguments for #2. One is "it's a fucking wrestling GIF" but since people at CNN are getting death threats and I can't put myself in the shoes of the various friends I have there, I totally get why it's freaking people out.

But that's part of the bullshit Russo narrative. Cornette hating Russo has plenty to do with Russo politicking him out of his WWE booking job and later doing the same to get him fired as a TNA road agent. He also hates Russo for the damage that he feels Russo inflicted on the business, but it's not the whole thing. I do think it's possible at this point that Russo has deluded himself into thinking Cornette only hates him because of what he booked, but he's also a compulsive liar so who really knows? Either way, the whole "Bro, why would you wanna kill somebody over FAKE WREST-A-LING?!?!" shtick is a fabrication.

How far in are you? It picks up after about 3 episodes.

So do we think that they raided the physical archives for this, or that it consists largely of footage that they had already digitized? Yes. Don't know why this isn't one of them. Yes it's mostly stuff recorded on VHS but that hasn't stopped them before as they put out WCW and ECW collections on Blu. Hate to be that guy, but not all videotape is VHS.

Bruce is not the type to just make up something out of thin air like that if it doesn't benefit him. I can totally buy that Bruce and others would see Dustin, a hell of a prospect who was turning into a great worker and had the size to be credible against Hogan, having potential as someone they could mold into a top heel. Especially since Barry Windham didn't work out and if we're talking his first WWF run, he's not established yet and potentially easy to repackage.

I should probably put this here, too... I wrote something for Deadspin about how Dave's star ratings became a big deal and the Okada-Omega ratings are (probably) not him trolling: http://deadspin.com/rating-pro-wrestlings-new-best-match-ever-is-way-more-1796026082 As for the Cornette stuff: Based on my own interactions with him, I don't think any of this stuff is 100% work. And goc is right, the invisible grenade doesn't even have close to the internal logic of even DDT's most ridiculous comedy spots. DDT is a particular universe with ridiculous rules. PWG has always had an offbeat comedy presence, but the invisible grenade literally exists for no reason other than Chuck Taylor to point and laugh at how he gets to play wrestler. He's not a conjurer, and he's not a face messing with a heel then making fun of his reaction. It doesn't have its own logic. It's *just* "haha, invisible grenade."

The point was that he wasn't selling as if the banzai drop incapacitated him in any significant way.
