Get it here. Call Somebody! hinghe Mothership has landed and the Superpodcast is back with another packed episode! Lots of great stuff on the program this week, including: Part one of our conversation with Donny Laible. Having done many things in and around professional wrestling, from being a photographer to being a manager, Donny shares stories of how he first got involved in the wrestling business and what the New York fan scene was like in the 1970’s. We also hear about the inner workings of the wrestling magazines and how well, or not well, they paid photographers. Donny also shares the tale of the frightening incident with an ECW wrestler that made him walk away from the wrestling world. We have the story of Dick The Bruiser’s son’s quest for a Liberace autograph. And when we say “Dick The Bruiser’s son” we mean a complete fraud pretending to be Dick The Bruiser’s son. Another dose of listener questions and “What If” suggestions. Plus, The Top Ten descends into more mindless (or mindful) wrestling talk than usual, the history of Marc Gullen’s Superuniverse title rein and much more! Here's what I've never been able to reconcile about Russo: THAT guy tried to book WCW around Bret Hart around Chris Benoit as the top acts. Bret had the WWF history, but Benoit was most certainly not a Russo style guy. Was it just the intensity even if he couldn't talk?

As far as anyone can tell, it was a matter of not wanting to be around wrestling during the initial depression over his retirement.

The best counter I saw to Dave's point is that the Bayley character isn't sexualized, so she doesn't have the same limited shelf life that someone like Victoria (one of Dave's examples) might have had in WWE.

That's just a Jewish thing. And they're not shots at Dave. It's a "look at how of its time this is" thing.

Seriously just watch the Owen Hart vs Makhan Singh matches in YouTube. Hard to get otherwise. Just a really solid heel who made Owen look like a God, and he was a solid promo, to boot. Norman was a solid use of him as a face & could have had legs if he wasn't cut off by Ole et al, but you won't know how good he was until you see him as Singh.

The 2/3 falls thing made way more sense for the original scaffold match with Jarrett and Greene in Louisville. It was much closer to the ring and they were straddling it. Here...it's what everyone came to expect from a pro wrestling scaffold match, at least height wise. I do think they did the best job they possibly could trying to milk the drama of answering the bell after each fall, though.

With Gary Hart, this footage is lacking promos and pre plane crash stuff so shouldn't we expect him to disappoint? He couldn't do much at ringside after the crash.

Last year, I interviewed Ricky Steamboat for a couple stories for Fighting Spirit Magazine, including their "Training Ground" featured that features all kinds of advice for wrestlers. He gave some amazingly in-depth responses and I boiled down the best stuff for the article. Amazing nuggets about how to get across that you're trying to win, the right amount of selling, how to make big moves mean something (he specifically says that he has no problem with doing as many big moves as you want as long as you contextualize them properly), and more. In light of the Will Ospreay vs. Ricochet BOSJ match discussion, I nagged FSM editor Brian Elliott to post it on the FSM website, and he did. Even setting how it may make you look at"The Match" aside, this stuff is amazing. Loss called it "Maybe the most insightful interview on ring work that a wrestler has ever done" ad who are you to disagree with him?

"The Story of Vince McMahon" at The Ringer
Bix replied to ...TG's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I'm sure all of Vince's interviews contain insane amounts of exaggeration and outright lies, what is special about the Playboy interview? My point was more "at what point does this cease being an original work?"- 11 replies

uh should he really be leaning that heavily on the Playboy article for a piece with zero original writing or interviews? Also: To do that while NOT including the most infamous part of the interview (crushed leaves) is quintessential Shoemaker.- 11 replies

Apparently this goes back a while to Bennett thinking ROH lowballed him because Dave rated his matches lower than he did for other guys with a similar push on the roster. Really.
