Get it here. David Bixenspan and The Great Brian Last are back again for another Superpodcast full of old-school pro wrestling goodness, including: WHO ARE THE SLIP HOUSE BOYS??!?! Larry Nelson’s reaction to the most racist match stipulation in wrestling history. Unheralded moments that you “mark out” for. Two “What If?” topics: Shawn Michaels going to WCW in early 1993 as rumored, and The Bruise Brothers (“Dream Machine” Troy Graham and Porkchop Cash) going to Mid-South as scheduled in early 1984, with special guest Jim Cornette jumping in for a cameo during the latter discussion! Shimmer promoter/announcer Dave Prazak joining use for the Dennis of the Week, with a focus on NWA New Jersey’s invasion of IWA Mid-South in 1997. And so much more, including Brian hearing Chris Von Erich sing for the first time and Rags, Paper and Pins: The Merchandising of Memphis Wrestling by Jim Cornette and Mark James as our book of the week. Bret Hart's Podcast (The Sharpshooter Show)
Bix replied to Grimmas's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Hey, a Bret Hart podcast? Cool! Wait, I have to subscribe to to WrestleZone Daily feed? FML. -
His issue has always been egregious kayfabe breaches within the wrestling program/exhibition itself. Which he's been much more consistent about.

Under-the-radar wrestling book recommendations
Bix replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
Most of the Crowbar Press stuff is on Kindle now. The newer titles that aren't will be up soon. Theater in a Squared Circle I haven't read in forever and have been meaning to get a new copy of, but is worth the few dollars you can get it for to have all of the reprinted stuff from Wrestling Then and Now. Lita's book is indeed very good. William Regal's isn't talked about as much these days but is one of the very best. Chokehold isn't talked about much anymore, either, but it's a wonderful resource and the eBook version is available at a pretty low price on most platforms. Chris & Nancy has some flaws but it's tremendously well researched and covers the Benoit case better than anyone else. If you like big color photos, the old George Napolitano books are great and can be had cheap. Emerson Murray's Brody book kind of disappointed me, though it's still solid and the photo quality is awesome. A highlight is the real story behind the Onita-Invader angle as told by Scott Romer, the photographer who took the pictures for the Japanese magazine story. Of course get the eBook of Fall Guys -
6:05 Superpodcast Episode #14 - Let's Go Sailing!
Bix replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
There's an edited version that appeared in Gary Langevin's "On The Mat". And thanks! -
Get it here! David Bixenspan and The Great Brian Last are back in the saddle for a super special, supersized Superpodcast, which covers the following: The main attraction this week, which is the audio of the audio of the 1996 Eddie Gilbert Memorial Show brunch/banquet, with speeches from Dory Funk Jr., Doug Gilbert, an unadvertised Mick Foley, and others. It comes after most of a normal length episode, and runs from the 1:35:37 mark to the 2:33:59 mark of the show. So if you want to jump to that first or save it for later, those are your timestamps. Matches from Kick Ass Wrestling’s 1999 TV taping at a women’s prison finally hitting YouTube starting with Bull Pain vs. The Soultaker (not that Soultaker). The careers of Kerry Von Erich and Eddie Gilbert, who passed away 23 and 21 years ago this week, respectively. Follow-ups including MORE PIBE DIEZ. And so much more, including Mick Foley’s “Have A Nice Day” as our book of the week. Follow us on Twitter at @davidbix and @GreatBrianLast. Did Puppet H show up yet? That's the only thing from the trailer that I'm looking forward to.
-
I feel like he hadn't been doing the muscle spasm crowd appeal stuff that much?
-
From what I could gather on Twitter, European users weren't having any major issues. Deterrent servers and all that.
-
OK, I'm not alone here, then. They sucked Lesnar into their shitty, rote, emotionless generic WWE triple threat match main event. Lesnar did his suplexes and then pissed off for a while. Ambrose is now a cartoon character who substitutes shaking like he's having a seizure for charisma. It was a nice run for longer than we could have ever expected, but WWF style wrestling is now back to being almost uniformly terrible factory bullshit. Case in point: Styles was the best wrestler in the world and having to shoehorn himself into their one size fits all style has screwed up his timing and pacing to the point he's now just really good. And made to look worse by having to carry that idiot trying to do his 1990s cruiserweight BS while too old to pull it off. Maybe Styles will figure it out by so far he's as ruined as a lot of'80s guys were. I don't know what it is, but even when they're not that good, the women's matches have been to only ones lately where I didn't feel like I was watching everyone work a match laid out for them by someone running TNM7. Different road agents?
-
My understanding is that the missing '93-'95 episodes are all ones where the master tape is missing. They were skipped on Classics on Demand as well. Something to do with the tapes not being sent back from that British DVD company was what I heard.

Vader vs. Sting? Austin vs. Savio?

On a lighter note: Every Bill Watts letter or speech seemingly has a bunch of the same highspots: Native American heritage, Ernie Ladd, the free market, etc. Like if he suddenly started telling Hank Aaron about Bruno benching 600 pounds without ever touching a steroid, would anyone really be surprised?
-
I had totally forgotten about that letter. Is the date right? Two month delay sounds wrong. Also: While obviously, with the benefit of hindsight, he was able to explain himself better (whether or not he did it WELL is an entirely different matter), he doesn't address the comment about intermarriage, where the obvious implication is...unfortunate.
-
Re: Wade: Absolutely, but...something like this is never gonna happen again. He doesn't really give interviews anymore anyway, and he always has to be the alpha anyway. I don't have his book anymore and have no memory of what he did to walk back his comments there...maybe he did on Jim Ross's podcast? I know he addressed Heyman's antisemitism allegations. Re: Kris reading the comments, I asked him what he wanted to do, and he agreed with what I was thinking before I even argued for it: The legacy until the audio came out, as put forth by Dave (and I think Wade to an extent, but I may be wrong), was just how much worse it sounded with Watts' voice and conviction behind it. Yeah, I'm sure a decent chunk of our audience has read the comments at some point, but I'm sure a lot haven't, as well. So you need that shift from "Here's Kris incredulously reading what Watts said" to "here's Watts saying it." If it had originally been a radio interview, I'm guessing we would have gone straight into the clip. Even if most smart fans would have found out from the newsletters, a significant chunk would have still heard the original comments on Major Market Wrestling Radio Show X and there would be less of an "Oh my GOD, it's even worse than I thought!" reaction.
-
You have to remember the origin of WWF escape the cage rules. It started as a thing where Bruno would beat up the heel so badly he'd get revenge. The idea is that he's beaten the heel so badly that he can just calmly walk out. It worked for Bruno. It wasn't as good a fit for Hogan, and it became a race to escape the cage.

What you're talking about is more about the hosting more than Wordpress itself (what hosting company were you using? some are notorious for pulling that kind of thing). Could still host elsewhere of course, but we're talking about if you were to lose SoundCloud anyway, so that's kind of my point. You'd have to set new feeds up, re-upload files, etc. You could do the same thing now with Soundcloud as the audio hosting, too; I hear feedback from people who want show-specific feeds somewhat regularly. Point is there are options.

6:05 Superpodcast Episode #12 - Way Ahead of My Brain
Bix replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I think Bix mentioned the WON obit on Moolah as the other.Yup. -
A Wordpress-based solution would allow for multiple feeds but unified stats using Blubrry PowerPress. Dunno how hard migration would be, though.
