I think this was the Nasty's last televised t.v match in the WWF. WCW here they come.

This was a great SMW t.v bout. These two have a lot of chemistry together in the ring. The finish was great here.

I thought this was a solid piece of business. Alabama might be one of the last places the Dog could pop a house in 93.
-
Pretty solid promo, and yes the pronunciation of Yokozuna was great.

This segment didn't do anything for me.

Crush is no Don Muraco.

You're correct.

Just some good shit with the 4 of best tag teams in the states at this time. It's amazing how over the Rock N Roll are with the WCW audience. If we got 15-20 minutes we would be talking about a top of the line match probaly.

This was a fun little match with just smart work from 2 pros. The brawl at end was some good fore shadowing of the great 9 man brawls we would get in the future.

This was just tremendous. Flair telling all the champions that the champ is back is great stuff. The Flair for the Gold line was gold. I know it wasn't the original plan, but it really is cool that He got his belt back at Starcade in December.

I prefer the BATB match over the GAB match. I thought the BATB told a neat little story. Plus the highspots were pretty swank. Though I did like the GAB match a lot. I thought BATB was a WCW MOTY in 96.

Slinger worked some tags and 6 mans against the Fantastics is SMW in 92.

I liked the Ross/Caudle team. -
Totally true. Really SMW to me will always boil down to five acts - The RnR's, Smothers, DWB, Corny and Bob Armstrong. Once all of those elements were in play it became a consistently good promotion. Prior to that it was more hit or miss. You hit it right on the head. Throw in the Bodies too, but their heat came from Corny. Bob Armstrong was such a great promo and foil for Cornette. Those guys you listed could all work, and all could cut promos. The way they used Bullet Bob was amazing. Who in 1993 would have thought Armstrong could still be a draw. Sure it was on SMW yardstick. When he was positioned right he could still draw on occasion.

After Volunteer Slam 1 the shows begin to pick up. It really isn't till 93 when the big shows begin to really deliver. Which of course is when the talent is upgraded. I can't begin to stress how important the Rock N Roll, and Smothers were for the promotion.

For the promo to work. Punk needs to get his shot at Cena. Also we need to see a nice spike in business. When Hogan turned at Bash at the Beach 96 and gave the NWO a name and gave his quasi heel shoot that was a great moment and lead to big business. Now onto the Punk thing. It's definetely a sign that HHH is phasing himself out. I don't think he has ever allowed himself to look this bad. Punk calling him a dufus is about as big as an insult that Hunter has taken. I was more shocked at HHH being referred to as a dufus than anything else. I still feel the promo might have been to shooty. I hope I'm wrong and this firmly makes Punk to the casual audience a big time draw.

Cornette also did it with the Bodies and Studd Stable with both teams wanting a shot at the Rock N Roll Express. Eventually it broke down in 3 ways. Still the crowds were hot for the Studd Stable vs. Bodies matches.
-
I thought Cornette was a believer in the heel vs heel dynamic. Still just like face vs. face you can't do it too often.
-
Heel vs heel works well if presented properly. Look at Savage vs. Snake Roberts from SNME from 86 as an example. It did quite well in the DVDVR poll.

Another I have always loved the t.v. Though Meltzer was saying that SMW put on the best houseshows on a regular basis. Having watched a ton of the houseshows I would agree. Another for the most part the company really delivered in spades on the big shows.

The run ins didn't really bother me. In the territory it was a way to put heat on the heels, and not kill off your main baby faces. They only had x amount of wrestlers on their roster. Also with Cornette running the territory with exception of Prince Kharis their really wasn't any bad workers in SMW. The t.v show had good angles, great promos, and usually a good main event. Hell Cornette and DWB blow away most of today's talkers.

To me 93 and 94 SMW was when it was at it's peak. in 93 Smothers moves over as the top face of the promotion and becomes the SMW equivalent to Steamboat in WCW. Where Smothers could work main events, tag team bouts, work underneath and get young talent over like Candidio, and Bryant Anderson, carry poor workers to good matches like Bruiser Bedlam. Beginning in 93 you had Smothers vs. DWB as the main singles feud, and in the tag ranks you had the Rock N Roll vs. The Bodies so you had 2 really hot feuds going on.
