I just finished going through 1989 footage for the Crockett set. The Flair/Funk feud had delivered some of the best promos ever.

4/23/16 ROH Lethal vs Strong vs ACH vs O'Reilly vs Moose vs Jay Briscoe 4 1/4* I was at this match live and thought it was a MOTYC , so I rewatched it on tape and it held up. I really thought it was smartly worked where it started out and then built into this super hot match. I thought ACH was the MVP of the match. He had a really strong point of essentially being the FIP. Then on the flip side his offense was spectacular. You had Lethal and Strong as the heels being opportunists and leaching off other people's work. Moose being this dominant force. O'Reilly highlighting his skill set. Of course Jay Briscoe is da man. The match just was a melting pot of awesomeness.

Harley vs Halcon What can I say this was a great match . It also ties into other segments like how the Tully/Mil segment from earlier. It starts with a Killer Tim Brooks essentially saying wrestlers are afraid to face him in a Dog Collar match. This leads to Brody coming out and saying he isn't afraid of Brooks. Finally Harley comes out and Brody and him have a skirmish and we get a great promo. Match opens in the ring and Brody refuses to leave. We get a Harley brawl and Brody fucks him up. Halcon is out and must unmask before the match starts. He does and it's on. Halcon focuses on Harley's cut, and finishes him off quickly. The 2 nd fall is short as well but Harley wins with an Atomic Drop. The 3rd fall is the real juice of the match. We totally see mixing of the styles here. Race is great mixing his style with Halcons. Halcon using some wacky Lucha submissions. Race eventually gets it going and imposes his will on the match and eventually gets the win with a suplex. Again this felt like an incredible segment topped off by a super fun NWA title match. 4*

Bock vs JYD This was just what it was supposed to be. A match that made JYD look strong. Bock did everything to have JYD smelling like a rose.

This match was about making JYD look strong and that's what Nick did. -
4/27/16 LU Rey Misterio/Dragon Azteca jr./Puma vs Fenix/PJ Black/Jack Evans vs SOH/Evealise vs Joey Ryan/Cisco/Cortez 4 1/4* As spot fests go this was pretty high end. So many big time spots. It's clear most of the matches that have resonated with me have been spot fests. I need some more meat and potatoes matches. Still this was balls to the wall. I thought Cisco and Cortez were great at working as a team, and giving the match structure which can be forgotten with all the amazing spots. These guys got 25 minutes and it could have easily gone another 5-8 minutes.

Kamaitachi coming in to work ACH is great news. Hope he gets to work in ROH a lot going forward.

Not sure, but in 81 or 82 they are having good tags against each other. Saito was the engine. Fuji played his part. The Strongbows sold.
-
On Titans we've discovered that the Strongbow brothers were actually a fairly decent tag team, at least against Saito and Fuji. That's kinda sorta a revisionist opinion of Jay. And the world definitely needs more talk about Mr. Fuji To be fair Kelly we've discovered that they were cape able at selling, so you could get heat on them and plug them into a formula.

When Parv and I interviewed Tito Santana , Tito said he'd go to Fuji for advice a lot on matches. You could literally hear Parv's head spin around.

He had a great brawl with Larry Z once.

This match was basically Phil's talking point all wrapped up with a bow on it. The finish was Ted in figure 4. Hits Slater with glove. 123. Though this is the worst match Ted has had on Classics.
-
I was underwhelmed by the match. I had high expectations going in, but the guys felt happy to sit in rest holds.
-
Man I was excited for this. Though watching it I wasn't. The guys seemed like they mailed it in. Ted was happy to use a headlock for a long portion of the match, and Slater was fine to sit in it. Slater did some solid arm work. At times Ted would pick up the pace, but ultimately had a bad match. 2 1/4*

That was a great quote.

This is for the AWA title. It's 2 out of 3 falls. They do a good job with the promos and pomp and circumstance to make this seem special. I loved the early head lock work. Martel had no answers to it. We skip ahead and Burke posts himself. Martel goes after the arm and works it real good. Eventually Burke catches Martel in the sleeper to get the 1st fall. After that we get some back and forth both guys selling big. The end Burke catches Martel in another sleeper as the bell rings. Pretty great match. 3 3/4*

http://placetobenation.com/this-week-in-wrestling-42416/ Fall 1 Pete and Johnny look at nwaclassics.com match of The Dynamic Duo vs Dick Slater/Tommy Rich 12/11/82 . The boys break down the match. How good are the Dynamic Duo ? Pete also talks about the ROH show from San Antonio. Pete turns on some of the fans in the audience. Fall 2 Pete and Timothy discuss The ROH Supercard of Honor Night 2 card. Also look look at the Wrestlecon Supershow. One of these shows had one of the most ego centric driven matches they've seen in a while. Fall 3 Johnny is back and they check out the E&C show, NXT, RAW, and Smackdown. Is the Maryse and Miz pairing as awesome as Johnny and Pete think? Will Payback deliver as good of a show as it sounds on paper? Where is the WWE Bullet Club headed? Why does the product feel fresher? Check out the show and find out what the boys think.

He had great matches with Martel, Curt Hennig, Piper, Youngblood, Dynamite Kid, Chris Adams. His tag run with Wiskowsski provided a lot of great stuff.

I loved hearing Dylan referencing the 2006 poll and wondering who Jim Breaks was. I remember the Brits going ape on him too. My memory always told me it was Will. I was wrong it was Dylan. -
I agree 100% Matt. This feels like an incredible segment. We have an amazing 5 minute brawl with Mil and Tully. Then the stip of the dress in play. Gino and Chavo bring it home. Just utter chaos. It was an easy 5* segment.

Loved Zellner talking about the Sting/Arn title match from the Omni. A match only people in the building can talk about. -

Dynamic Duo vs Mil Mascras/Tito Santana This was a pretty good tag. The Dynamic Duo are so good at bumping and stooging. The 1st fall was a great shine sequence. Tito looked great as did Mil. I loved Mil's double Mexican arm drag to the Duo. A super fun 1st fall. The 2nd fall was solid work too. We got some more focus on Mil and in a total shock drops the fall. The 3rd fall the heat is really growing. The match ends up out of control and leads to a double count out. 3 3/4*
