  1. Pete, Link me a couple of matches to watch. Will do. Great old school heel.

  3. I liked your list. AR Fox though was really jarring to me. He's a wrestler I don't get. I know he has cool high spots and stuff, but his psychology to me is the shits. Tell me what you like about him. Maybe I'm missing something. I feel like I can name 200 better wrestlers pretty easy in 2015. I'll toss up a list later so I'm not that guy questioning people's lists without one.
  4. I agree Dave on the Ron Wright stuff on Nights of Legends. Looking forward to seeing the Tor Kamata research. Good for you Dylan not giving Meltzer a free pass on the Kerry Von Erich announcement being added to the ballot.
  5. I will rewatch again. With that said I do prefer this style of wrestling. The point of the match was JYD standing tall. We got that. I just wanted more meat to it. Ronnie West is one of my top 3 referees. In regards to the Mr. Wrestling 2 good by tour. This match took place during the TA feud which he had one more match in Houston. Then had 2 matches with Mr. Wrestling 3. He was transitioning out of the territory. He was working short matches putting other talent over. Plus the Mr. Wrestling 3 stuff sets up his final feud.
  6. http://placetobenation.com/titans-of-wrestling-34-interview-with-the-russian-bear-ivan-koloff/ With Ivan Koloff going into the WO HOF I thought I'd repost this. It's a nearly 2 hour interview we did with Ivan a little over a year ago. It will make a great companion piece to Meltzer's HOF piece. Parv, Pete and Kelly interview Ivan Koloff about his long career, covering everything from his early days in Canada, beating Bruno Sammartino for the WWWF title, working in New York, AWA, IWA, WWA, Florida, Georgia, and Jim Crockett Promotions.
  7. Stagger Lee vs Mr. Wrestling 2 (Houston Wrestling 5/11/84) This wasn't much of a match. It was really short. Pretty much the Mr. Wrestling 2 good bye tour.

  9. I'm the master of getting tongue tied.
  10. Al Perez vs Hacksaw Higgins 7/12/85 Higgins is a wrestler who talked to my High School at an assembly in 89 or 90. Their was a picture in a yearbook with me who was the TE and our starting offensive line with Higgins who dwarfed us all. The only wrestler to ever speak at my High School. This was your basic technical baby face in Perez vs your big ugly heel in Higgins. Perez controlled him with arm drags and basic arm work. Higgins bumped well for his size and ate all of Perez's offense. Even a nice German Suplex for the finish.

  12. Thanks man. We have fun doing it.

    Dutch Mantell

He's in a tag match with Tom Pritchard vs The Fantastics that was uploaded to nwaclassics.com that he was great in. These are the type of performances that can help flesh out his case to make the top 100.
  15. 6/28/85 Hacksaw Duggan vs Kamala 6/28/85 Rock N Roll Express vs Jake Roberts/Barbarian 6/28/85 Ric Flair vs Magnum TA 6/28/85
  16. 7/12/85 Bandolier Death Match: Hector & Chavo Guerrero vs. Ted Dibiase & Dr. Death Steve Williams 7/12/85 NWA Title Match: Ric Flair vs Wahoo McDaniel 7/12/85 Fantastics vs Dutch Mantel/Tom Pritchard 7/12/85 Al Perez vs Hacksaw Higgins 7/12/85 Butch Reed vs Kamala
  17. Fantastics vs Dutch/Pritchard This was a ton of fun. The shine was so well done. Dutch and Pritchard are pros at bumping and stooging . So many great heel miscommunication spots. Fulton was great at getting the crowd riled up. Rogers and Fulton targeted the arm. When the time for the heels to get the heat Dutch was pretty good at it. Tom's work on top wasn't very interesting. Though the crowd made up for it. Their was a weird mis timed drop kick by Rogers, that he covered well. The crowd was eating this up. The finish looked a bit off. Fulton was good in the FIP role. Overall good stuff. 3 1/4*

    Jim Duggan

Bingo. I think from 83-85 he was the best brawler in the U.S. That won't translate on the tv. He's been a stud on NWA classics.com where it is arena footage.
  20. The 11/1/15 show is a good one . Liger/Komatsu/Tanaka vs Tiger Mask/Finley/White This was just a 7 minute all action sprint. Everyone worked hard. The perfect opener. I also enjoyed the finish 3 * Makabe/Captain NJ/Robinson vs Goto/Shibata/Dorada It was fun to see Dorada work with more significant partners. Robinson is developing, and the finish was great. 2 1/2* Time Splitters vs Omega/Owens It was a good solid tag. It reminded me of a Fantastics vs OMX match. I loved the shine with the arm work. We got some old school tricks mixed in, and they got good reactions. The heat was good with the back work. We get a hot tag that was great. Another cut off with some work on the stomach and the back again. Another cool comeback that resulted in a mis communication spot with the heels. Omega and Owens showed potential as a team. They really need to blow up the tag division and go with one belt. 3 1/2* Tonga/Anderson/Gallows/Fale vs Nakamura/Yoshi-Hashi/Sakuraba/Yano Worst match of the show. It started out slow and meaningless. It finally got going and we got a finish. 1 3/4* Tanahashi/Honmma/Taguchi vs Okada/Ishii/Gedo This had more of an old school 6 man feel to it where guys want a piece of one another. This was worked well. We got 2 FIP. First it was Honma, then Tanahashi got a run at it. We get the hot tag to Taguchi and he's on fire with Butt Strikes. Eventually, it comes down to Taguchi and Okada as a Tanahashi dive takes out him and an opponent, and Honma takes out his foe. Taguchi goes for a Rain Maker Butt Strike and misses. He falls to the Rain Maker. This had grudges, schtick, comedy, and a good structure. 3* Young Bucks vs Sydal/Ricochet This was tons of fun. The Bucks felt like MX with Bubba in 86. A great spot was Nick Jackson taking a bump into Hall's arms. Then Sydal dove onto both of them. Sydal was a great FIP. Ricochet's Superman punch into a Sydal apron rana was a mark out moment. I thought Hall got involved a hair too much, but his payback was great/ 4* reDragon vs RPG Vice This was really good. This played to both guys strength. Baretta dung his knee. reDragon went to town on it. This played to both teams strengths. Allowed reDragon to do what they do best, and work on top destroying a limb. Baretta is best as FIP. Romero is able to do his thing. They got the time and had a killer match. 4 1/4*
  21. I like the new graphics saying NWA Classics. I also like how they are tagging the wrestler so people not familar with who's who can tell who they are.
  22. JYD vs Ito 2/24/84 This wasn't anything much. I loved when Ito threw salt in JYD's eyes and then Ito started bowing as a sign of respect. Still Dog is so over.

  24. Jose Lothario/Buddy Moreno vs Black Gordman/Gran Goliath Gordman and Goliath are a very famous team in Texas and California. They were the Eddie Guerrero and Art Barr of their time. They were qreat at generating heat, and even in the twilight of their career they could still get it. This was really well done. The structure almost feels more modern in the many momentum shifts. We start out with a nice 5 minute shine. The heels start to get heat for 3 minutes, then we'd see a shine for 3 minutes etc. So we get this back and forth action. The difference here the crowd isn't educated to that structure. So everytime the faces got the shine the crowd would go crazy, and vice versa on the heat. Thy weren't use to that and treated each one as a cut off and hot tag. The finish was a lot of fun too. I dug all the shines, and when the heels were working over Lothario's legs it was top notch work. 3 1/2*
