JWA Tour-Opening Show: March 4th, Sapporo
Welcome Back Hoshino Match: Gran Hamada vs Kantaro Hoshino
A purely entertaining match. The two awesome little guys bounced around the ring, exchanging strikes, holds, and counters, building up to a battle of Flying Cross Bodies that went on for almost five minutes as they kept coming up with new ways to escape the pin… until finally Hamada caught Hoshino clean in the middle of the ring for the 1,2…3
Patera, Blackwell, & Spivey vs Mighty Animals & Masa Fuchi
Inoue, Hamaguchi, and Fuchi back down to no man… but the AWA trio were just too big and powerful and eventually the Tenryu’s Gang trio were overwhelmed and beaten down. Fuchi fought back with fury, going after Spivey’s eyes and throat, but that just made the new AWA American Champion angry. He fired back at Fuchi in kind, and then put him down with the Spivey Bomber.
Welcome Back Fishman Match: Dos Caras & Fishman vs Takada & Funaki
A fast-paced technical match. Dos Caras and Fishman focused their punishment on Takada and Funaki’s backs. The young shoot stylists went after the luchadores’ legs. After about 15 minutes of back and forth grappling, Fishman caught Funaki with La Cavernaria, and he had no choice but to submit.
Mike Shaw Official Debut Match: Super Strong Machine & Footloose vs Bigelow, Hickerson, & Shaw
An interesting showcase for JWA’s newest big man, as he spent most of the match begging off and stooging before coming back with eye pokes and thumbs to the throat. Super Strong Machine got a near-fall after hitting Shaw with a Machine DDT, but Bigelow broke up the pin and proceeded to steal the momentum from the Tenryu’s Gang team. After a little more hard-hitting action, Fuyuki found himself trapped in the heel corner the victim of a nasty triple-team attack. Bigelow and Hickerson, in an impressive display of strength, lifted Mike Shaw high into the air and dropped him on top of Fuyuki, earning Shaw his first pinfall in the JWA.
Mick Foley & John Nord vs Ueda & Goto
A flat-out vicious brawl erupted prior to the opening bell. Ueda busted both big gaijin open with his kendo stick, and got cut up himself by a nasty chair shot before the ref could restore order. As soon as the bell rang, the action went bonzo gonzo again and the fight quickly spilled out of the ring and into the crowd. Tatsutoshi Goto (also bleeding at this point, and also the legal man in the ring for his team) barely managed to beat the 20-count back into the ring The Blonde Heels were awarded the narrow CO victory, and celebrated as if they had won the titles. Then, Foley and Nord stormed the ring and everybody brawled to the back.

Rugby vs American Football Challenge Match: Tenryu & Hara vs Ron Simmons & Leon White
Is it possible for a match to be too hard-hitting? These men attempted to answer that question here. The jury is still out. In an unexpected twist, Tenryu did most of the bumping and selling for his team, and he made the young Americans look really dangerous. Or, maybe, they just are really dangerous. At any rate, Hara took over completely after the (second) hot tag and knocked Simmons and White around with his basic-but-effective Japanese big man offense. A Superplex on Big Leon shook the ring, but it was a Hitman Lariat that put him away.
Power Rush & Kensuke vs Tsuruta, Yatsu, & Hase
A showcase for the rookies, in advance of next month’s Young Lions Showcase tour. Hase and Kensuke fought hard and earned some respectful applause, but it was the brief but violent Jumbo vs Choshu segment that really popped the crowd. In the end, it was a Piledriver from Yatsu that put Kensuke down for the count.
JWA Middleweight Champion Tiger Mask vs Naoki Sano
And, welcome back Naoki Sano. This was worked as a semi-shootstyle match, but with more spin kicks. Sayama gave Sano a ton of offense and there were a few moments where it really seemed like we were going to have a new Middleweight Champion… but eventually Tiger Mask made his big championship match comeback, leading to a Crossface Chickenwing submission at the 25-minute mark.
