  1. He just apologized for his remarks on the TMZ video on his Twitter account.
  2. Funny they use a word so close to "transparent" as part of their vocabulary.
  3. I'm gonna have to disagree there. For historical purposes maybe, but it's certainly not as interesting as what was in WWF magazines. I remember the magazine that came with the PPV purchase of Wrestlemania X. It was pictures of every match from 1 through 9, and they looked brilliant. Of all the mags I ever collected and eventually lost for whatever reason, I still wish I had that one. That said, I always thought the articles were more interesting in the Apter mags. You could tell it was coming from a true fan's perspective, which was nice. And for whatever reason, I was always obsessed with reading the card results of house shows and such. Especially the little section at the end with cards from the 60's and 70's.
  4. It's amazing to me all the Apter mags are in circulation. I lost interest in them totally by 2000 when I followed WrestleZone. You would think such a niche market would have fallen, considering the receeding interest in print media over the last decade. I never liked that the PWI year-end issue was always out around New Year's Day, thus not able to cover anything that happened from November to December.
  5. I'm sure Tony going to WWE had something to do with the Turner purchase of the Crockett territory, since he started around that time frame. I liked him up until his catch-phrases became all too familiar and annoying. I'd argue he had better chemistry with Ventura than either Monsoon or McMahon.
  6. I get the feeling I missed something big tonight.
  7. The best thing I think to come out of this whole mess is that it put JR in a new light as an announcer. He was way more passive before in WWE, or at least he seemed that way to me. After this, it gave his whole persona a jolt that lead him to the Monday Night gig he rightfully had for so long.
  8. Is it true Lanny had a contract with WCW while Randy was there, and paid something like a million a year despite not appearing anywhere in the company?
  9. This was a good Rumble, particularly in that you had a glimpse at a few matches that never went beyond the brief scuffle in the ring. Dibiase and Hennig at each other is a great example.

  11. It's probably why they also built the blue cage. Climbing a mesh fence in wrestling boots can't be easy.
  12. They tried it in 1990 but after a few guys in, it stopped.
  13. Bobby said he thought it was a fan that jumped over the railing, which makes sense if you put his horror stories in dealing with fans in the 70's into account. He said after the show he apologized to Bischoff, who was apparently oblivious to it happening.
  14. ^ Were they the first ones to invent that particular stipulation?
  15. I don't think Trump would associate with someone who didn't make him money, or simply "broke even", let alone participate in a stupid angle showing off how rich him and Vince are.
  16. I've seen this. Apparently the audience is quite dumbstruck by it all, or just doesn't care.
  17. To me, it hits the nail on the head of how tragic the whole Von Erich debacle was. I have 3 siblings, and cannot imagine life without any of them. That's what Kevin has to deal with each day. And it's nothing short of miraculous that he's come out of it how he has, businessman with a family of his own now. It also gave me a good idea of how big wrestling was in Texas then. During that time in the early 80's, they were the eye of that storm of popularity in that regional area that was being duplicated by Vince & co. on a national level. Days gone by wrestling fans will never see again.
  18. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/110524 Really good article about Randy from Bill Simmons.
  19. It's funny you say that. When news about Liz's death came out, and the speculation began to his involvement or lack thereof in it, I thought about this period of his career, and specifically things like this interview or what I read in WWF Magazine. Luger's persona at the time was meant to reflect Vince's idea of patriotism, which gave the character a more personal touch. It's clearly the antithesis (in some ways) to Hogan's downright jingoism, and meant to be more a reflection of the American everyman, which is what these segments were designed to present him as. One can say it was a fore-runner to what John Cena's character is a reflection of. Rather than being this beastly caricature of the alpha male strong-man, he dresses in street clothes and speaks his mind. And as down as I am on the product as opposed to their 80's-90's heyday, this is one area in where they've improved. I'm sure what Loss says about how WCW ruined him speaks a lot for other guys too. I always looked at it as if WWE was prohibition and WCW was the swankiest speakeasy of the south. Not just steroids, but everything else.
  20. Considering they even did something with Bret Hart of all people, I understand Savage would want to come back too and actually do something. Now that he's gone I wonder if the reason he was basically blacklisted will finally surge. I've never seen anyone else say this, but maybe it was Randy who black-listed them. It's entirely possible (and even understandable) that being put in the broadcast booth and being inexplicably scaled down was demoralizing enough for him to resent Vince and WWE, that when the time comes after WCW is sold and they are knocking on his door to come back like they did with Hogan, Randy didn't answer. If what people say is true about his money, then he wouldn't have had any of those motives to come back like some did and still do (Flair in TNA, for instance) to recapture what magic they did have one more time.
  21. I'd love it if someone made a tribute video, with "Guiding Light" by Muse as the soundtrack.
  22. Gotta give big props to Bix for his wonderful articles at CagesideSeats about Randy's career.
  23. For whatever reason, I was really hoping WWE would make him guest referee for the Cena/Rock match in Miami next year. It would take the generational element already in the feud to another level.
