  1. This might be the best BattleBowl in terms of participants, and in execution. And a great use of that wonderful ramp they used a lot back then, cutting the sides for elimination down to three.
  2. It was my first one, too. I think it's really sad Flair/Hogan didn't come to pass at this show, but the Savage feud had better heat than what they tried to accomplish with Hulk. Their mistake was having them face off at arena shows right off the bat and not building up the Royal Rumble as some kind of showdown between the two for the vacant title, to have Flair win as he did. It's a hot match, but I don't think it lived up to expectation. Part of this is, in my opinion, because of the angle. All the outside stuff is a distraction to what could have been a great one-on-one contest. WCW repeated this Ad Nauseum a few years later, first with Lanny, and then again with Liz. That said, the angle in the Fall of '96 with Liz being held by the NWO was a more involving and interesting angle.
  3. I was about to make that point, actually. He hasn't done a regular road schedule for awhile so he practically is already. But the purpose of the thread is to speculate if he's entirely done by now.
  4. It ensures that coveted demographic of old, scary middle-aged white male stalkers.
  5. I've heard some speculation that went along with the "bald" picture that he's hung up his spurs and is done. Seeing him wheeled out of WM was pretty harsh to watch, and it certainly went through my mind I may have been watching his last one out.
  6. This was quite a revelation seeing some guys I'd only associated with WWF, particularly Flair, Piper and DiBiase. The music used in both these montages was quite good.
  7. This was the first WCW event I ever watched. We taped the replay of the show, and sadly it was cut during the heels entrance of this very match. I saw it for the first time recently on WWEClassics.com. I have to say it doesn't hold up with the rest of the excellent card, it felt like they were in a race with time to get the whole match on the show.
  8. I loved this segment. It's probably the most blunt face turn you'll ever see, but by God it works.
  9. Not to mention a HUGE drop-off in ticket sales. But maybe they'll just do controversial political angle, and move into a smaller building because of "terrorist threats".
  10. Best thing to come out of it is all the Super Dave references on Twitter.
  11. Things like this always remind me of the piece Chuck Klosterman wrote called "That 70's Cruise" about attending one with Journey, REO Speedwagon and Styx.
  12. I think Ellering had it worse with his horrible ventriloquism.
  13. Well that was lame.
  14. Vince may have let it slide for more personal reasons. In Bret's book, he said that weekend of the show, Shane made a rather rude gesture towards his wife and had a heated confrontation from what I remember reading.
  15. I was thinking of something along the lines of a home invasion gone wrong. I wasn't aware of Chris' prior domestic abuse charge, so that's what made the most sense at the time.
  16. That happened too. On the DVD, Trips goes off on the guy who had the poster.
  17. I seem to remember hearing he was their neighbor.
  18. When did that happen? And what was the context? I must have missed it. One good example would be him bitching out the one contestant on Tough Enough, for basically being a Goldberg fan.
  19. Was there a reason why they put Boss Man on the shelf for so long? I seem to remember he came back on television that October or something. Was it just to maximize Nailz as a heel, or something behind the scenes?
  20. That'd be a nice cross-over. Funny how people keep calling it the spinner belt when that particular function of it has been done away with for awhile.
  21. Because he thought it might have went down as it did isn't reflective of what everybody felt.
  22. Was that what the beginning of The Natural was based on?
  23. Could just be they changed their mind on turning them heels, and didn't air it because of that.
  24. Why was that "uber-creepy"? I thought it was a classic "heel marries/ dates authority figure/ powerful woman heel". I loved Eddie as much as the next fan, but the idea that his widow who's now an actress can't participate in storylines because of her "sainted real marriage" is silly. Would it be creepy if she actually remarried? Or would it only be creepy if she actually married someone in wrestling, separating her from the thousands of people who meet spouse number two at work? You bring up several good points, and I guess in hindsight it wasn't so bad but at the time it just felt wrong. It felt to me, like they were trying to erase Eddie from history. They made up for it when Vickie did the frog splash at WM last year, and when Cena mentioned him in that promo on Raw a few weeks back. And as for the prevailing theories, Bix, I'll go with number one. Number two seems pretty believable too, and I'd be lying if I said that possible angle wasn't floating around my head, however briefly. I'll say it again, the timing was what really made the show look as bad as it did to those who attacked it for being salacious. And given the timing, everyone must have been thrown into the first stage of grief, denial. As for it being a ratings ploy, again because of the timing I can't see it. My overwhelming feeling was this caught everybody in the headlights, and they just did what felt natural. If what felt natural included trying to boost ratings by talking about him, then so be it. Emptying the arena and showing clips from the DVD and entire previous matches was the only thing different, I'm sure done in part because of the criticism of the two other shows they did like this. Also, It wasn't really national news until the following day, ending up being a top story on all the cable networks by the end of the week. I'm not defending all they did to deflect the negative attention this story was bringing to bear, but I still feel the show was done with good intention.
