Lord Steven Regal v. Arn Anderson 2/20/94 Tremendous match, pretty much a textbook TV title style match. Both guys target a body part, Arn with the arm, and Regal with the neck, and they go after them. Lesser wrestlers working this style will just go back to the same holds (even Flair pretty much just works the leg in the context of the figure four), but both Arn and Regal put on a ton of different locks and they all look great. It makes inherent sense, if you can't get a submission with a cravate try a crossface, hammerlock doesn't work use and arm stretch. Arn works a great hammerlock, bodyslamming Regal, turing him into a pin while holding it. Regal meanwhile wrenched the hell out of Arn's neck, cranking cravates, cracking him in the mouth with crossfaces. The brawling in this match was great too, Arn has a really pretty right hand and Regal was just vicious with uppercuts and headbutts. Finish run was very exciting as they worked the countdown with Arn desperately trying for the belt and Regal stalling. The crowd was super into the match at this point, chanting USA and popping huge for Arn's spinebuster. Finish was pretty surprising, as Regal gets the pin by holding onto Dundee's umbrella with 15 seconds left. It was a twist in a good way as everyone was expecting either an Arn win or a time limit draw. 1994 maybe the best in ring year in wrestling history, and this felt on the level of the other great matches of that year. If this looks like something on paper you would like, go watch it, it truly exceeds expectations.

I am pretty sure that the womens fed run by DOI had multiple hour plus matches with Mercedes Martinez which I imagine were claw out your eyes bad. Also pretty sure there was an indy which ran a 7 hour or something match. I remember trying to taunt SLL into watching it for Segunda Caida

It has been a long time since I thought about that stuff, but I know that all of the Daniels and Modest pimping had to do with Modests APW stuff and Daniels APW and ECWA work. I remember being disappointed with that Nitro match, mainly because it wasn't anything like what those guys were normally doing with each other. It is certainly possible I would hate the APW stuff if I went back and rewatched it, but the Nitro match isn't a good representation of what we liked about both guys. Dean and I talked a little about this on the recent Segunda Caida radio, indy wrestling before 97/98 was pretty terrible, you would go whole cards without seeing a single neat move, when guys like Ki and Daniels and Modest came around, they were such a huge breath of fresh air compared to the Tom Brandi heavy indy cards of a couple of years earlier. Indy wrestling sucks now for the completely opposite reason. -
Chris Daniels? That is pretty crazy. Is there a single way he is a better candidate then say Dutch Mantel? And I can't imagine Dutch even getting on a ballot.

I am amused watching Punk ether Nash and HHH every week, and he is clearly right there with Cena as the biggest star on RAW, but I can't see this helping him in the long run.

[1992-03-20-PWFG] Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs Bart Vale
Phil Schneider replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
This owned, Fujiwara is the worlds best Toru Tanaka. It was really fun to watch him work a completely different style, then he works in a normal PWFG show. He isn't the legend that the young guys have to get past, he is the dirty foreigner cheap shotting your local hero. No real Fujiwara matwork or reversals, no cool moves to speak of, but it was great. You get the sense that Fujiwara would have had an amazing career as a Gary Hart managed guy feuding with Dusty or a Tojo managed Akio Sato tag partner. -
[1992-02-24-PWFG] Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs Yusuke Fuke
Phil Schneider replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
This was really great, and may have been the best Fujiwara, Fujiwara-Gumi match. The matwork was super here, as both guys were breaking out multiple counters to counters. My favorite is when Fuke was attempting a Boston Crab, Fujiwara tries to break out his signature crab counter, and Fuke counters it, then he tries it again and Fuke goes right for a cross armbreaker. I also loved all the fighting for holds, Fujiwara was going for the ankle and Fuke is just laying in bodyshots and headbutts, but Fujiwara refuses to let go. The shots to the knee were brutal, and I loved Fujiwara's viciousness.- 9 replies

Sure, but watch Callihan v. Necro, Callihan v. Ki, Callihan v. Hero or nearly any Callihan match in the last couple of years. He takes huge beatings. I am sure Finlay is going to lay it in, but that is what Callihan does. -
Yeah I noticed the same thing, my dad thought he might be a volunteer usher

It is true that it is OK to dislike a black wrestler without being racist. However when you are a racist, it calls into question the reasons you dislike a black wrestler. You are a racist, you don't believe the holocaust happened, you believe that black people are subhuman leeches on society. These are all things you have said, and in all of your responses since then you never have said "I was wrong, I was a deluded idiot who celebrated some of the most vile and harmful views in human history." Instead you have cast your self as the victim of bullies, picking on the poor little racist for just stating his views. "I was just trying to say the Holocaust didn't happen, and then you all picked on me, why do you have to be so bigoted against bigots?" I love the idea that everyone is obsessed. You amuse me, the same way Resident Evil or Chikarafan Dan or Beast amuses me, kind of a "look at this loony shit posting stupid things on the internet, Let me kick the nest a bit and watch the bees fly." I am killing some time in between working nest kicking. I imagine that Bix, Tomk, SLL and I may take shots at you more then other people, because as Jews we maybe a little more sensitive to Holocaust denial then gentiles, maybe it is because we enjoy trolling you because we want to ground up your bones to make matzo with. One of the two probably. -

As a rule when you start a statement with "Without wanting to sound like Resident Evil", it is probably best to just not write what you were thinking about. -

Yawn. Six years on and you still have nothing better to do than try and incite reactions about offhand comments that have long faded into the past for anyone else. You really are a tragic little man. I am always amused at the "nothing better to do" criticism, it took me about a minute to make the comment. I can spend the rest of my day doing other things. I read this board, I saw you posted, I thought to my self before opening the post "I bet he is taking a shot at a black wrestler." Voila, that is what you were doing, El-P was responding to you like a reasonable person, figured I should save him some time by pointing out that you aren't. I enjoy taking shots at you because you are a vile shit, so I did it. It isn't an obsession, not something I spend a ton of time doing, I am at work, have five minutes to kill, don't go to DC punk shows anymore, so this is my only chance to kick a Nazi. You never thought the reason you didn't root for him is that you considered him a loathsome ape leeching off the work of hard working white people? You claim to have some sort of awakening, but certainly you were still deeply in your Stormfront days when you were watching ECW. -

These kind of Puro gang fight 10 man are one my favorite types of wrestling matches. This is 2/3 falls rather then elimination style and goes nice and long so each guy gets to stretch out a bit. We know what the WAR guys bring to the table, they are going to try to kick, stomp and punch divots in your skull. Tenryu is probably the greatest all time at throwing cheap shots, and he is constantly cracking folks from behind. The NJ guys really shine here as well. Fujinami and Iizuka probably take the biggest beating and both are masterful at receiving and firing back. Kido isn't in as much, but he pulls off some awesome flash armbars, really putting over his suddeness. Hase has a weird cool way of eating offense, I loved his sell of Fuyuki's clotheslines, and is great at catching people in sudden suplexes. Choshu is the BMOC, and he is as good an Ace as there has ever been. He gets the pins in both falls, as is so great at coming in and cleaning house.

Pretty much exactly what you want out of this match up on paper. Hashimoto and Tenryu have a couple of nasty little scuffles building up their big singles matches, while the lumpy pissed off duo of Hara and Ishikawa mug the fuck out of Nogami. One thing we definitely got out of the 80's New Japan set is that Akira Nogami will take as big an asswhipping as anyone in wrestling history. After we go back and forth for a while, the WAR team kick his ass up and down the ring. Hashimoto isn't in this match a ton, but after Nogami gets pinned he attacks Tenryu and looks like he tries to take his eye out. More of a teaser then a great match, but a nice teaser.

[1993-10-29-PWFG] Carl Greco vs Katsumi Usuda
Phil Schneider replied to Loss's topic in October 1993
Shootstyle is this weird style where you can be really great right out of the blocks. This is possibly Usuda's first match and he was already awesome. Greco is really fun here too, as he has really athletic mat work. Really great flipping counters and attempts. Usuda wasn't kicking the shit out people like he would in BattlArts, but his mat stuff was super too, I especially loved the double hammerlock submission. This was a draw that didn't feel like a draw and made me want to see the rematch badly.- 5 replies

[1993-10-29-PWFG] Yuki Ishikawa vs Joe Malenko
Phil Schneider replied to Loss's topic in October 1993
I thought it was worked less like a lucha techinico v. technico match, then a face v. face technical U.S. match, where you were waiting for the tempers to flare. You almost needed Bobby Heenan calling this and rooting for one guy to punch the other in the mouth. It did kind of end before it really broke down, which almost gave the match kind of a cock teasing feel. You wanted them to break down, and they never fully did. Man was alot of the stuff spectacular though, Malenko will have at least three spectacular things per match that I have never seen before.- 4 replies
