    Starrcade is back

True. Also Hayes is pretty much the textbook definition of someone who should Never Tweet.
  2. Apparently Cornette had old charges from back in the territory days where he and the MX had to fight their way out of a couple arenas, and since he's already disinclined to want to travel the new security procedures sealed the deal.

    Starrcade is back

Probably not a good look for someone with power in WWE to be tweeting out stuff making it look like the ROH champ will be appearing on one of their shows. I mean we all know it isn't happening, but this is the same company that put guys on ice for months to avoid any appearance of contract tampering. Now you have one of the top non-McMahon people in the company basically offering their top guy a spot on a houseshow.
  4. There was a thread here somewhere about times wrestling made you tear up, and hearing Bobby break a little saying "I wish Monsoon was here" in his HOF speech is my #1 no question. Also anyone else remember the time he got thrown by the neck across the ring by Ken Patera? That blew my mind as a kid and now looking back at it knowing his neck problems that was an absolutely crazy thing to risk doing.

    Starrcade is back

I figure if they are going to put the effort to bring back a classic PPV name, it's at least going to be a Network Special. I mean, if they don't do that much what's the point?

    Starrcade is back

The Twitter account for the Greensboro Coliseum just announced WWE would be bringing back Starrcade on 11/25. How about that.
  7. On one hand, it will be good to have Thunder available since some angles were self contained, but god did that show fall off the cliff in record time.

    The Mae Young Classic

Maybe they did, but they still flew in the WWE women to do the staredown, and there's no way that Vince wouldn't have known about that. I know NXT is Hunter's baby and all, but I don't think he'd be stupid enough to do all this work without approval.

    The Mae Young Classic

That seems odd that they would bring her in to the MYC tapings, bring in WWE main roster talent, and fly Ronda in for the finals all without Vince's knowledge. Like, I could see maybe if the negotiations fell through (which why would they, she doesn't exactly have a jam packed schedule), but to say they aren't in negotiations seems demonstrably false.

He said the headbutt was real, was disappointed Vince would do that but realizes he probably has no idea who Shibata is let alone what happened to him. He also said that the blood was most likely from a pre bladed cut that Vince sealed prior to coming out to create the illusion that he was busted open by it. So in summation: Headbutt= real Blood= from prior cut not directly from the headbutt Vince = dumb to be doing this when someone almost died from a shoot headbutt

What Dave actually said is the headbutt was real but the intention was not to be so hard to draw blood hardway. Vince did the prep beforehand and Owens just had to hit him hard enough to break the nu-skin (which is still harder than a 70 something year old man should be hit in head). I don't mean to pull a "well actually" on Johnny, but considering we have a megathread commenting on people who have largely based their dislike of Dave on misquotes I felt it was necessary to clarify that.
  12. Going back to being bland might be a step up from current "clearly playing out the string until his contract ends" Dolph.

That is all true, but Vince did more to put KO over in that angle than Steph has done her entire run as an authority figure.
  14. Did Quake do any wrestling between his Sumo days and WWF?
  15. Other than the rest of the MYC, there is a mini dump of World Class going on filling some of the 1985 episodes and a couple of 1986. It's funny how 1985 WCCW is very reminiscent of 1997-ish WCW. You can clearly see things going off the rails but there's still a lot of good stuff happening as well.

I think he's great but he's going to end up being completely ruined with the stupid "Kurt's son" storyline. There's probably a way they can salvage it if it turns out Jason was concocting some sort of evil scheme, but nothing I've seen shows me he's got the McMahon-like scene chewing capabilities to pull something like that off.

One thing you can never take away from Vince is that he will absolutely do whatever it takes to get someone over if he's doing an angle.
  18. More people are going to remember the ladder match since it was the first one anyone ever saw unless they grew up watching Stampede. That will make it stand out in one's memory more than Bret/Owen which is the better match by practically any standard.

Asuka going to Raw has me conflicted. On paper, it's a positive since it's the A show and they need some help on the women's side. However there's more intriguing matchups and storylines possible on Smackdown. The hype videos building her up at least give me some faith they won't just be bringing her up to put over Nia.

I gotta admit, I lol'ed at Roman's line about knowing a guy who can help Cena break in to Hollywood.
  21. Rewatching the version of the main event that aired on TV, and it's still a good match. Like most AAA matches it benefits from editing, but it was a good mix of bloody AAA brawl and heated mask match. Most of the time mask matches with guys at Wagner's level have a harder time getting heat since usually it's clear they aren't losing, but people were in it the whole way. I still think it's fitting that after all this time Wagner turned out to be The Most Interesting Man in the World.
  22. This would be a fun discussion, worse ref: Fanboy Manning or Always Trying To Get Himself Over at the Expense of the Match Tirantes? Both get the "oh fuck off already" reaction from ,e.
  23. AAA is back on TV for me again, they've been running shows on Univision Deportes. The first episode was an introduction to lucha and AAA, and the last few shows have been highlights of the last few Triplemanias. This year's show is supposed to be running in three parts so if you get that station and didn't see it when it aired it would be a good time to watch.
  24. Well, specific to Evolve, it's deeper than that: From WON coverage, Dave's social media and audio, etc, you'd barely know the promotion existed, which is weird if just because of the WWE deal (and Gabe now being a consultant in NXT). Once, someone on Twitter asked Dave why he doesn't review Evolve shows and he gave a "reading is your friend, I did in the new issue" reply when he didn't review the latest shows, he just gave the results. Online and in the WON, he gave the attendance for the last NYC show as 150-200ish, when literally everyone else said it was about 450-600, which is a big difference. "Dave Meltzer doesn't watch Evolve" is now enough of a thing that Ethan Page joked about it with ACH on their show on FloSlam. There are a bunch of Wrestling Twitter conspiracy theories about it and I don't really buy any of them, but I get why people find it weird and want an explanation. Doesn't help that Dave doesn't reply when asked if he watches Evolve, or about other Evolve-related stuff, on top of the perception that he's not covering various issues within ROH. The ROH stuff was weird, there was a time there was clearly some shit going on with people unhappy and/or leaving and he seemed to go out of his way to not mention it past the most basic "this is a thing that happened and I won't say more about it".

It's really a chicken and egg argument here, Braun shouldn't get the belt because it has no value, but nothing would give the belt value faster than putting it on Braun. Right now is the best example of "wrestler makes the belt" since the Universal Title has gone from the first champ vacating after a day, to a guy who had it literally handed to him and pushed as undeserving, to a retired guy doing a comeback tour, to a part timer. From a business standpoint it seems like the best way to go: elevate the top title on the A show, they don't have to feel the need to keep paying Brock $5 million a year while being eternally locked in cost cutting mode, and instead of making Braun look vulnerable they can just position him like the final boss of a fighting game. If WWE is feeling especially frisky, you can book it so beating Braun can be the last nudge to create a new star, and....fuck....I just gave them another way to try to get Roman over, didn't I?
