  1. Yes. The angle was actually set up earlier in the show where David filled in for Buddy Roberts (who was "late" in storyline) to win the tournament to crown the first six man champs, and David vacated his portion for the Birds to give it to Buddy because brotherhood was important and whatnot.
  2. Christmas 82 was the Kerry-Flair cage match where Hayes slammed the door, which was the kick off. So 1983 was the hottest year.
  3. the WCCW dump has begun, and a year earlier than the rumors were saying to boot. That's going to be 100% of my network viewing going forward.

    NXT talk

Funny how crowd burnout is plaguing both NXT and GFW these days. Maybe it's an Orlando thing? Not to sound too old mannish here but long taping sessions were the norm when the territories started going on TV. If crowds could maintain excitement through an all day death march of jobber matches that was a mid 80s Superstars taping, why are these crowds completely dead after a couple of shows?
  5. What I remember most from that match was Davey Boy hitting the sickest-to-that-point-in-time Tombstone on Davis. Never recall seeing anyone else bouncing on a bump like that on those hard ass 80s WWF rings.
  6. I don't think Brock gives two shits if he can beat anyone, he wants to know how big the check is UFC's willing to pony up to have him fight. It's really a perfect storm for him: UFC's owners are under pressure to make money drawing fights to pay off the loans made to buy the company, and the biggest proven draws are Brock and Ronda (and GSP too but Dana's still being a twat to him). Ronda's not coming back anytime soon, so Brock has the upper hand in any talks they might have.
  7. The 2/8/86 show should be the one where Savage wins the IC title from Santana. I always thought it was funny how they tried to shoehorn this match into the Danny Davis: Heel Ref angle (which I don't think happened yet) because Randy won via heel shenanigans.
  8. WWE has always a phobia of top guys leaving, and in their minds they are probably afraid he'll end up going to New Japan and becoming a huge business changing star there.
  9. Brock's no dummy, he knows UFC's new owners badly need a big money fight since this year has kind of sucked so far in terms of big draw fights. I doubt he really wants to go back to fighting but realizes this is the best time to maximize his earning potential. The only flaw in his plan is the soonest he could fight after his suspension would be in January, and that would probably fuck up WWE's plans since that would take him out of the Rumble. They still have first dibs on him at least until after Mania, and Dave mentioned that his deal has 2 more option years that only end if one side decides to walk away.
  10. Doesn't make sense that he would turn down the money WWE pays him for the small amount of work they ask in return. Now if WWE already put it out there to him they weren't looking to offer him another fat contract, then him wanting to go back to UFC makes sense.
  11. Probably, but to throw someone who's supposed to be the love of your life under the bus to that degree is quite the extra level of fucked up. Possible silver lining to all this, I'm not sure of her naturalization status so maybe she'll end up deported and at least have some distance between them?
  12. To be honest, I was expecting the reveal to be something even worse so it didn't seem that bad to me. It does seem silly that they try to do things like this in 2017 that will only lead to Jason becoming Lance Von Angle, but at least they didn't say he was having an affair with Dixie.
  13. There's so many levels of slimy too. Lying to both your women's champ and her fiancé who also happens to be your world champion. Making up bullshit excuses and doubling down when called out. Making an announcement to the live crowd to bury the talent you lied to. The kicker of course is doing all that to bend over backwards for someone who already quit on your promotion just last year.
  14. No but Rey Sr is Rey Jr's uncle.
  15. I can think of two off the top of my head: Porky and Maximo both have won the CMLL heavyweight title. Fritz Von Erich won the AWA title briefly and Kerry had the NWA title.
  16. Cris Cyborg and Becky Lynch seem to be working their own angle on Twitter, or at least I hope they are since Becky is liable to catch an ass whooping otherwise.
  17. Road Dog was definitely the better worker but let's not rose tint glasses ourselves into thinking his promos weren't just him intro'ing the team and making weed references.
  18. It seems like both Talking Smack and 205 live were getting low viewer numbers, but getting rid of 205 would be admitting the cruiserweight division is a flop so if one has to go it's going to be the post game show even if it's the one that gets more positive buzz. It seems like they are in another cost cutting mode (see also: no more pyro) so Talking Smack ended up having to take one for the team.
  19. Corey Graves' name when he was a wee lad toiling on the Pittsburgh indy scene was Sterling James Keenan, so I'm always holding out hope.
  20. I don't get the mind set that every tag team needs to be broken up at some point. For every Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart you have tons of guys better suited for tag teams and get lost in the shuffle as singles. There's nothing wrong with being a career tag team guy if it's the best shot at success.
  21. Per Dave it was low ratings.
  22. The more they try the more Roman's going to end up the Lex Luger of this generation in fans' eyes.
  23. He was teaming with Davey Boy Smith Jr in New Japan until he got hurt.
  24. Interesting stuff in the new Observer stating Enzo has major heat for some unmentioned faux pas on tour that led to Roman throwing him off the bus and getting the Miz treatment not being allowed to dress in the locker room. Also Cass is not popular among the boys for being a big time Trump supporter, which at the same time probably (my opinion not Dave's) explains why the company is so big on him.

    Austin Aries released

Seems like the bottom line was he didn't want to be there anymore and they thought he was an asshole so in the end everyone wins.
