  1. So fightful.com just put up their story about it, and in the middle of it they just casually mentioned Corbin is part of the concussion lawsuit against the NFL. What? That seems like burying the lede, to say the least. A guy who's part of a lawsuit against the NFL due to concussions is presumably cleared to wrestle by the guy who famously stated there was no firm link between concussions and CTE and was on the NFL's payroll? No wonder he said something about it. Having Maroon do a seminar on concussion safety is like having the CEO of Philip Morris do one on cancer awareness.
  2. As far as I'm aware Tommy never admitted to having seizures either. I'd wager if he never mentioned that he'd probably be still wrestling. Once that was on the record, there's no way a company that has multiple pending concussion lawsuits against them is going to ever clear him.
  3. On one hand we should expect this since no one ever retires from wrestling, but on the other hand he deserves a better sendoff than being used as attempt #708098 at getting Roman over.

    Mauro and JBL

So what's the deal with a bunch of folks in the biz going off on Twitter about internet rumors about JBL leaving?

It's one of the most frustrating aspects of WWE, both as a fan and to the performers, is hearing HHH or Vince going on and on about brass rings and all that bullshit knowing full well anyone who does that just gets smacked back down if they weren't someone the company was already planning to push. I don't get why they do it either. If I'm running a company and someone I wasn't planning to push suddenly starts getting a following for whatever reason, why not go with it? If it works, great, everyone makes money. If it doesn't, no harm done since I wasn't planning to do anything with the guy anyway. It just smacks of petty "I decide who gets over, not you" stupidity, which makes stuff like Cena's quasi-shoot on Roman even more eye rolling when he has the balls to say the fans have always had the power.
  6. Maroon's an interesting case, in wrestling circles he's seen as the guy erring on the side of caution like with Daniel Bryan. In football circles, he's seen as a key part of the NFL's attempt at plausible deniability. It's like he's a face in one territory and a heel in another.

It seems like it's partly because they don't like it when talent goes into business for themselves on Twitter and partly because she's reminding everyone the official WWE Narrative is wrong.
  8. Wrestlemania 3 was the first big PPV, so when Vince threatened them with possibily losing WM 4 over a company that hadn't done a PPV yet it was a big deal.

Depending on who you ask, Mr. 450 went in hurt prior to his match on WWE TV in the hopes of getting them to pay for his medical bills since they cover anyone who gets injured in their ring. Rick Steamboat Jr. was alleged to have suffered his career ending injury due to DeMott related shenanigans in NXT. That's really the only issue I've heard about them.
  10. Sunday Night Heat was at least fun to watch until the very end when it was a complete recap show, Thunder was only ever worth watching just to see how many people were just straight robbing WCW for a paycheck to do nothing.
  11. So I guess that proves the bar for "how much unprofessional shit will a company put up with if you're good in the ring" is somewhere between him and HBK.
  12. My favorite Low Ki moment was when he wore the Agent 47 cosplay at the Dome show a few years back without letting New Japan know he was going to do the whole match wearing it. Like why wouldn't your response to having the opportunity to work one of the biggest shows in the world to treat it like you were going to goddamn Comic-Con.
  13. That's pretty what the WON reported word for word. Normally when Dave relays a story like that it's either he verified the story enough to know something happened but not enough to be 100% clear on the details, or it involves someone he's not comfortable outing.

Fashion Files seems like a classic case of "plans change" since they were clearly building to something with the reveal of who was attacking them. The David Lynch spoofs came off as hand waving to distract from them no longer paying off the original concept, and now it's becoming "Fandango does wacky stuff" with no clear purpose. I'm betting we'll find out one day from some shoot interview or ex writer podcast what the real idea was supposed to be.
  15. It's generally assumed now that the Taya/Vampiro stuff was legit and everything else following with Johnny Mundo was angle. Also AAA has been at fault here for creating the monster by bending over backwards to cater to someone who's spit in their face at every opportunity.

One of my greatest moments as a fan was being live at the 2001 Unforgiven PPV. Not only did I get to see Angle and Austin brawl right in front of me, I got to see the Undertaker nearly have a full blown tantrum at how bad his and Kane's match was against Kronik. Even when everyone came out to celebrate Kurt winning the title, he was off in the corner the whole time boo-boo facing.
  17. To GFW's credit (that's something I never thought I'd type), they were fully aware this was going to happen and only signed him to a short term contract when he came back.

    The Mae Young Classic

I really liked the match, but Tessa deserved better than to be a first round out. It's funny how they have such a hard on for the Horsewomen as a stable name and Tessa god damned Blanchard is right there, but maybe when they finally turn either Sasha or Bayley heel she can be their Barry.
  19. Floyd did the boxing equivalent of carrying someone to a good match. He could have got Conor to gas even quicker and end it, but he gave the people who spent $99.99 their money's worth and the UFC stans can brag about their boy holding his own with one of the all time greats. Once he knew Conor had nothing left he increased the pressure until the ref could stop it without having to knock him down/out. Everyone came out looking as good as they could and now Conor has a big pile of fuck you money to drive Dana crazy with.

Mania does sell itself to a degree, and Roman does deserve credit since among Mania type crowds he has Floyd Maywether heat where people will spend ridiculous money to see him get beat (and then get mad when he wins, rinse, repeat). I can see shooting the load for one big match on a B show to improve the house, but doing two on one show seems like a waste IMO.

    WWE TV 8/28-9/4

Every year there's stories of tickets not being sold out up until the last few days of the show, partly due to the giant capacities of the stadiums they run and partly due to them not always having the hottest card. Brock-Braun seems like the hottest program they could run and Cena-Roman has a dream match aura that both could be used to anchor a WM but instead they're being used to headline a B level show. I realize WWE is past the PPV mentality but that doesn't seem the ideal way to maximize your booking options.

Because theoretically you want to save your biggest matches for the biggest show, and they're running out of matches that could fill up the mega stadiums they run in.

Cena calling out Roman for momentarily losing his train of thought "it's called a promo, you have to do it if you want to be the big guy" was so HHH-like it hurt. I get they want to establish Cena as the face in this program but he really came off as a dickhead in that segment more than anything.

It was great that Cena pulled out the "I don't bury people, the fans decide" against the guy the fans have been pushing back on for years.

Cena and Roman GETTIN REAL during the contract signing. Kinda weird having Roman essentially redoing Miz's promo from the Wrestlemania build, Cena demolishing him making new believers in the Political Hit Theory.
