I've often wondered about that, it seems like the NWA had no idea what to do with big guys like Bam Bam since most of their talent was (by wrestling standards) average sized. I don't think there was anyone over 300 pounds who got over in JCP/NWA/WCW until Vader showed up.

Cyril Wecht may be the only person who could give Vince a run for the money in the ego department. He's good at what he does, but he's also still telling stories of how he was there to do the autopsy on JFK and once he started pointing out the wounds didn't match the official story the body was whisked away and he was practically thrown out of the room. He's also been involved in cases like JonBenet Ramsey and others where his basic point is "the official story is BS", so the idea that he would go along with Linda to try to convince the GBI is quite ludicrous. He may have called them, but it certainly wasn't on anyone's behalf. Cyril is strictly for Cyril. edit: Just saw the post from kjh. I can see Wecht calling to try to fuck with the guy who testified against him, but to think McDevitt and/or the McMahons put him up to it still doesn't hold water to me. People only know McDevitt as the WWE lawyer but if you're in Pittsburgh (and you have the money), Jerry's the guy you see to avoid going to jail.

So I like what they are doing with using the Nexus guys to try to breed dissension among the RAW guys, but this anonymous GM is getting lamer by the week. First off, they have his emails be announced with what apparently everyone in the world but Vince recognizes as the iPhone new message sound, and now they have the lights dimming to go with it. They set it up that the new GM wanted to remain unknown due to Bret getting beat up, and had him on the phone with Vince talking like they were friendly, but now they are trying to make people think the GM is Austin. It would make zero sense for it to be him, and it's like one of those Russo swerves everyone can see a mile away because what we're supposed to "fall for" is so obviously not true.

As someone familiar with Cyril Wecht, I would find it very difficult to believe he would do something at Linda's (or anyone else's) behest.

For as much time as he's spent around wrestlers, you should be grateful he isn't sporting a fanny pack.

I'm not sure where this would go, so this seems a safe place: Question to the Texas/WCCW peeps: Why was it such a horrible thing for Fritz to bring in Lance as a Von Erich cousin? I get that it was more than a little creepy for him to bring anyone in as a replacement for his dead sons, but that's how Fritz rolled. It seemed to make sense kayfabe wise, Fritz and Waldo were storyline brothers, if Fritz can have babyface hearttthrob sons despite being a mean ol' Nazi heel then why couldn't his "brother"? I always hear it mentioned that people watching TV knew he was a local guy named Ricky Vaughn and not a real Von Erich, but wouldn't people who went to school with Fritz's kids know they weren't really Von Erichs either?

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad

I know I was surprised when I found out all the mags were written by a handful of people. I figured the obvious heel columns were gimmicks, but it was somewhat of a shock to find out almost all of them were. -
From Todd Martin's latest Raw recap: So the guy who claimed to not know what the A-Team was, and mocked every 80s pop culture reference WWE ever makes, is now familiar with the lineup of NWA. I'm guessing he looked it up on Wikipedia before writing his recap.

Anyone know the rules surrounding visas? Is there some kind of period required between visas where they can't be directly renewed? That's the only reason I can think of that this could occur.
-
So apparently the shoot reason Wade Barrett was not on RAW tonight was due to his visa expiring. How is this allowed to slip past everyone when it involves the guy you made the spokesman for your new top heel faction?
-
Those all linked to tweets about listening to XM radio, is XM some kind of drug shorthand I'm not aware of?

Wasn't a lot of the 70s WWWF love stemming from PWI trying to get into their good graces? I seem to recall neither Vince Sr or Jr were big fans of the Apter mags. -
Bumping this based on the latest Legends of Wrestling episode now on demand dealing with the 1970s. Two things came to mind that seemed appropriate for this discussion: 1. They discussed at length Bruno's current hatred of the business, a lot of theories were offered but the consensus was "we don't know why he hates us now". Wasn't the real reason that Bruno was pissed he came out of retirement in exchange for David to get a push, only to see David get fired? The reason Bruno gives about not liking all the drug use in the 80s WWF doesn't seem to pass the laugh test considering he's a guy who shared a locker room with the likes of Superstar Billy Graham. 2. We can probably confirm now that Greg Gagne was being a douchebag when he implied Nick Bockwinkel had Alzheimer's disease a few years back. I don't remember the context but Greggy mentioned that Nick was starting to get confused "like my Dad is", but Nick's been on a few of these Legends shows and seems to continue to be the Dick Clark of wrestling.

Also I wonder if the Cyanide is being passed out at WON.com headquarters since Fedor tapped out.

I would love to see the lawyer who would take the case of WREN vs A1SUPERMEGAWRESTLING.COM
-
I'm sure Crimson Mask would book an angle where someone jumps over a car in a red speedo and Mark Nulty would replace Don West as TNA's pitchman except he would be hawking DVDs of deceased old timey wrestlers. And then no matter what else happens, Dr. Jeff will come out and say he did it better when he was in the biz.

Oh man, it looks like they got questions for that Dixie shoot from Wrestling Classics. Nothing like having completely delusional shut-ins browbeating the owner of a wrestling company on how she should run her business.
-
WWE normally lets recently endeavored guys work indies as long as they don't appear on TV or PPV. That way they can claim they aren't depriving an "independent contractor" of the opportunity to obtain work.

Oh he is he thinks yawning is a signing of weakness both in himself and others. Ive seen Bret's affect on women at close quarters twice, he isnt so much a desperate, dirty old man or even that he is famous (a la Flair) women just want to mother him. Yawning is a sign of weakness. It means you're tired which means you're not at your full functioning capacity. It doesn't mean you're a weak person but rather one that is weaker than what they could be. If you did the amount of coke Vince (allegedly) has, you'd never yawn either.

To be fair, what else are you going to ask Maria? What CM Punk's tongue feels like?

Replace every iteration of the word "politics" with "wrestling" and suddenly that paragraph becomes rather funny while still remaining accurate. Also I think it's time to stop saying someone isn't a professional politician when that person is spending millions of dollars to win a political race. -
I think the "WWE Universe" broke Twitter, it's been coming up with a system overload message for the last hour or so.
-
I hate to sound like Dave, but it seemed pretty clear that "Daniel Bryan" is gone and they're probably going to bring him back under his real name. Just the fact that they mentioned the name of someone who was endeavored (which to my knowledge they've never done), makes it seem that's the plan. If it was a shoot firing they'd have found some way to bury him on the way out without mentioning his name. Maybe since they planted the seeds of him having a change of heart, he'll end up joining the WWE side and be the hero.

Everyone keeps saying all the stories are coming from Jake, but didn't Robin also tell stories about her father too?

Also my biggest point of contention with the whole "it's a work" thing is that for it to be a work, people on the business side of the company would need to have been worked too. Only when you deal with the business side, it stops being a work and starts becoming "lying to people". They have legitimate business people on that side of things, not old carnies who are always trying to wizork the mizarks.
