At lunchtimes, I am picking a random year between 1951-2018, and watching something from the WWE Network, the All Japan Archive and NJPW World from that year, where possible. Currently working through 1987. The episode of Prime Time I watched was interminably dull, with a main event of Honky Tonk Man v Billy Jack Haynes, Sam Houston v Iron Mike Sharpe, an Outback Jack match, a Leaping Lanny Poffo match etc. The most enjoyable match was the Young Stallions v the Shadows, which was fine, but lasted FOREVER (cut off, hot tag, cut off, hot tag, cut off, hot tag, repeat endlessly...). Next up will be a Tenryu/Jumbo v Yatsu/Teranishi match which should be much more fun!

This was a fun little episode-can't say I'm overly enthused by Wrestlemania 4 (although I'm always intrigued where Jeff goes with the conversations), but things should start to get more interesting after that.

Always happy to see another episode of Jeff Learns Wrestling arrive. At some point, Jeff will know enough about wrestling where he could have a spin off podcast of "Jeff Shows Wrestling", where he then introduces another newbie to all of the great wrestling footage available!

Your "So So Good" Top 100 Matches of All Time
Phil Austin replied to elliott's topic in Pro Wrestling
Interesting. Nothing at all from the past decade in the top 100 for Japan? Any reason (not disputing, just intrigued) -
This is my new favourite podcast. Love this concept, and hearing a newbie genuinely trying to understand all the parts of wrestling that we take for granted is fascinating. Already looking forward to episode two: "Jeff Learns Mecha Mummy"

3. Possibly a mention or two of Virgil....

If you could time travel, what wrestling would you watch?
Phil Austin replied to Cap's topic in Pro Wrestling
For me it would be 1989-1990. Fun times in the NWA and WWF, plus some good times in Japan too. (I'd obviously have to be able to travel geographically!) -
Yes, that was the one - I remember finding it very odd at the time watching on the CHV compilation.

I'd love to see you do a segment on the different versions of the Orient Express. How do you feel each version differed, what was the cause of the changes between Sato and Kato, and how do you feel the ranked within the tag team scene at the time?

On a bit of a Colosseum Home Video segue, I have all of these, and have a feeling that one of them contains a Tito Santana v Koko B Ware face v face match, during which Koko does a sort of heel turn on Tito. It always struck me as kind of an odd match, especially as Koko didn't really have a heel run in the WWF. Anyone else recall anything about this?

How did I forget Woman? Even NWA Woman was smoking hot.

There really is just one response to this news... "YES! YES! YES!"

I was always a Rockin' Robin fan as a young whippersnapper. Made quite the impression on me, did she. But yes, nobody came close to Elizabeth

[2016-07-02-Ryo Kawamura Produce] Minoru Suzuki vs Ryo Kawamura
Phil Austin replied to superkix's topic in July 2016
Beginning to watch this show from the start. I've not watched any of these produce shows before, and I actually don't know much about Ryo Kawamura, other than he is some kind of Pancrase guy I believe? How did he come to be running a pro-wrestling show? I kind of get some of the other guys to run produce shows under their name, but he seems an odd one. Was this some kind of anniversary show (results sites seem to indicate show). Only watched the opener so far, which was ok - looking forward to the craziness of the main event. -

Between the Sheets #60 (September 7-13, 1990)
Phil Austin replied to KrisZ's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I personally care more about the Japanese wrestling section than the Lucha section-the beauty of Between the Sheets is it covers the entire cross section of that week worldwide - and of course, they list the timings if you want to skip a bit! One correction on this one: the Summerslam match with the Rockers was against Power and Glory, not the Orient Express -
I just can't abide Orton. Find him excessively boring overall. And I have a real hatred of Shiro Koshinaka. To be honest though, I can't figure out why - I can see he is good and his matches are general enjoyable enough. But his mere presence annoys me.

There was an update to the PS3 app a couple of days ago that (and I say this with a whisper) seems to have made it work considerably better than before.

Hyperthetical: you find Vince's personal diary dating back to 1983
Phil Austin replied to Sidebottom's topic in Pro Wrestling
WCW. So much that he would say here that he wouldn't say in public - true feelings regarding day to day dealings, this would also cover the screwjob side of things too, and the Invasion, which would be a fascinating read in itself. -
Current favourite wrestler to watch: Katsuyori Shibata Last fun match you saw: tag match from Vengeance 2003. So much fun! Wrestler you want to see more of: I need to see more of Daisuke Sekimoto Last live show attended: Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan (opening of the Global Tag League) Match you are most looking forward to watching: Ishii v Okada when I get around to it Last fun promo/interview you saw: Angle on a 2002 Smackdown "I just lost to a child!" Last interesting thing you read about wrestling: Stan Hansen's book Last worthwhile podcast you listened to: The Rick Martel PWO Supershow (I'm catching up on all the past shows!) Most fun you've had watching wrestling lately: Seeing Akira Tozawa turn up on the Cruiserweight Classic! Favourite recent post on this board: Not sure of the top of my head, it's just a fun place. Maybe the 'most useless tag teams/stables' discussion Favourite thing about the wrestling landscape in the past three months: Just the ease with which you can watch practically anything worldwide and from any era these days (the addition to some Google Drive projects has been amazing!)

Best of Between the Sheets Volume 1
Phil Austin replied to KrisZ's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Having been a moron and taken far too long to realise the PWO PTBN podcast feed is different to the PTBN one (I wondered why all these shows weren't showing up!), I have now downloaded everything off that feed to catch up. This is the first show I delved into, so a good place to start with Between the Sheets I think. Enjoying so far (I'm listening on my hour long journey to and from work in chunks)-finding the Memphis info from Beau James really fascinating. -
The Most Useless Tag Team or Stable Ever?
Phil Austin replied to JaymeFuture's topic in Pro Wrestling
The Union in WWF. And the Dudes with Attitude in WCW (I think that was what they were named). Seriously, the top faces forming stables to face off against a heel group should be money. But these were just awful despite having some decent name talent. How stables comprising Mankind, Big Show, Shamrock and Test, or Sting, JYD, Orndorff, Luger and the Steiners (and El Gigante, but, well, there you go...) can be such forgettable stables is amazing! -
Watching the IVP Video bluray from this month's Puro box. Currently watching Muta v Sting from the 1991 Tokyo Dome show

Definitely one of my biggest frustrations with the network. Would be nice to go directly to a match instead of having to blindly fast forward through a PPV. Even just time stamps like many podcasts (podcasts!) provide would be helpful. Unrelated, and we're a long ways away from this being an issue - but they're not going to put up the Owen tribute show, right? I actually think they will put up the Owen tribute show. The Benoit tribute one not so much
