  1. He came in at 18 in a 2007 poll of the most influential people in history. http://www.japanprobe.com/2007/04/01/histo...-edition-video/ Hmmm looking at the other list linked thear from 2006 polls Giant Baba #93 on the most popular historical fig poll Jackie Sato #87 on the list of most popular women (list limited to women who'd passed away)
  2. Some stuff from the WAR vs NJPW feud that sliped through the cracks WAR 2/14/1993 Tenryu & Takashi Ishikawa vs Tatsumi Fujinami & Hiroshi Hase - One of the best matches of the series that i've been able to find, in a really stacked year not quite sure how high this would be but it's easily top 50 & possibly top 30 or higher material. NJPW 8/2/1993 Tatsumi Fujinami, Masahiro Chono & Shinya Hashimoto vs Tenryu, Ashura Hara & Takashi Ishikawa - Closer to something in the lower half of a top 100 but still really great 8/8/1993 (Anti Player's Confederation) Kengo Kimura, Shiroh Koshinaka, The Great Kabuki, Kuniaki Kobayashi & Masashi Aoyagi vs Tatsumi Fujinami, Masahiro Chono, Keiji Mutoh, Takayuki Iizuka, Michiyoshi Ohara 9/20/1993 Tatsumi Fujinami & Osamu Kido vs Genichiro Tenryu & Hiromichi Fuyuki Last two fall into the short but really good/fun catagory. Ohara turns "heel" in the 10 man but he leaves with kind of a "yeah fuck those guys you go man" feeling during it
  3. Eh, she was fairly popular during her initial 89-90 run over thear & got pushed as an upper card & occasional main eventer but she fit more into the catagory of someone the fans would buy on top against the star rather then beeing the star herself if that makese sense.
  4. What other Docs would we confuse him for? Hendrix?
  5. The latter Yeah, that's what I thought too, course I had to re-read Dave's quotes a few times before it clicked for me but I eventually got thear
  6. Well that was certainly unexspected. Just wish it would have been someone other then RF, the worlds shittiest interview who'd gotten Ventura for a shoot.
  7. Did Meltzer confirm that they will be? Yes, though I'll be safe and bring it up again next June. Glad to hear it. Did he specify which members of the family it would be? Takashi was the main one by all acounts but the other 3 still played big roles. Melter's BIO on Takashi from a couple years ago makes a great case for his & the rest of the family's inclusion & gives a really good shortened version of the history of AJW. If you exstend things out the Matsunaga's sister was also a wrestler as was Takashi's wife plus a bunch of their kids ended up working for the company as ring anouncers/refs/etc.. too not that any of them should be included and i'm assuming won't be.
  8. I have absolutely no interest in listening to Bryan talk about this. I hope he was joking because there is a good debate to be had there and it should be had. I want to hear someone duke it out on the Euro candidates who has the knowledge to make real cases for or against these guys. Haven't listened yet (will tomorrow) but it's up now
  9. Great match This is my only complaint, after the massive beat down Ohara takes I was pumped to see Hash tag in and go on a murderous rampage but instead he just kinda casually takes down Hara with a few moves & a small package and i'm left feeling like "awww that's it?". Post match pull apart kinda redeems things a bit as those are always fun in these types of environments

    1990 hype!

    which ep was this?
  11. One of my favorite matches from the 92-94 WAR/NJPW feud that i've been able to dig up as after Hashimoto I think Koshinaka was Tenryu's best opponent during the series. Not sure how to articulate it but watching these matches has finally got me to turn the corner and become a Tenryu fan. I've been watching him for over a decade, seen him in lots of good to great matches but if asked if Tenryu was one of my favorite wrestlers i'd have still said no up until now. Dunno, maybe it's because in a battle of NJPW vs WAR I have no dog in the fight and couldn't care less which side wins so I can enjoy him more in this setting.
  12. Did Meltzer confirm that they will be?
  13. Love to hear you elaborate on what you liked about this. I liked it a lot myself but thought it fell apart a bit near the end which droped it down for me. This was on a WAR show not NJ
  14. Liked this one a lot more then the re-match, has a better build, more fire, passion & felt like more of a big match fight. The 4/6 bout has a great finishing stretch but was pretty lackluster for the first 2/3 of it.
  15. This is such a uniquely Japanese match. There's a JIP version of this on youtube, shows about 11 of 16 mins. Shortly into it Inoki locks on an illegal sleeper and chokes Tenryu into unconciousness. The next 4 minutes consist of Tenryu laying on the mat knocked out & after that an additional minute of him slowly regaining conciousness. You'd never see anything like this in the US or Mexico or Europe or anywhear else but it's Japan & you can get away with it thear, or atleast a small handfull of masters can. Pissed off Inoki makes this work, the ref makes this work, the crowd makes this work, Tenryu's team mates and the NJPW crew alike going nuts encouraging him to get up & fight makes this work. After that Tenryu comes back to life and we get another 6 or 7 mins of bomb throwing action. An amazing spectacle for sure.
  16. Looking up stuff today I saw there's fan cam footage of one from Japan in May 94 floating around
  17. I thought the Strong match was great and the best of his 3 matches thear. vs Daniels was real good too & vs Homicide I liked bu was the weakest. Forget which promotion but he had an awesome match vs AJ Styles around this same time.
  18. By all accounts over the last few months Matt's cleaned himself up & has gotten back into good shape so i've got no problem with this myself. Diffrent era but I liked his original mini run in ROH he did years ago & thought he fit in well thear
  19. Fun match, loved the Tenryu vs Liger Sumo Chop vs Shotei battle So what was up with Kitahara rockin the street fight gear?
  20. God damn was this one awesome, top 10, possibly top 5 match of the year for me. Figured it would probably be pretty good but largely went in with no exspectations and it just completely blew me away. So much hate, so much heat, so much greatness
  21. Been watching a few matches from the NJPW vs WAR feud in 92/93 & it's a little hard to make out what the heirarchy is on the WAR side. After Tenryu who was considered the #2 & 3 heavyweight guys on the pecking order thear?
  22. Didn't like this quite as much as everyone else. A really good match but it had a few weird sloppy moments like the messed up lariat/rana spot Mutoh & Ishikawa were trying to do. Also a little too short and it ended up abruptly just as things were starting to rock so it didn't quite reach the great peak it could have.
  23. Really ugly dirty fight, Hash is great bringing the fire, especially during the post match, great stuff.
  24. Moondog Spot in the early 2000's, in a really crazy coincidence his death was during a show in Memphis that was promoted to celebrate Lawler's birthday. British wrestler King Kong Kirk died of a heart attack in the 80's during a tag match vs Big Daddy. If you want to be technical about it, Misawa died from a heart attack as well with the shock of his neck snaping being what caused it.
  25. You guys should try & get Todd on your podcast, it'd certainly make for an interesting conversation
