So it's been quite a while since I've posted anything podcast related here. From 2013-2019 or so podcasting, and specifically wrestling podcasting, was a huge part of my life. It used to be a huge part of this board as well. Things started to decline post GWE for various reasons. Then 2020 hit. The combination of the pandemic and me losing interest in wrestling led to the feed changing. For the first time non-wrestling shows joined the feed (this is mainly why the name changed from PWO to PWOM), and after World Cast #100 in August 2020 I "retired" from podcasting. For the last two years the feed, as PWOM, has continued. In about 2 weeks annual fees are due for Soundcloud. I decided (along with my longtime friend Travis, who has basically been in charge of the feed these last two years) that this will be last time I will renew the Soundcloud subscription. Things have been pretty quiet on the feed for a while now, no doubt. So this feels like the right time to wind things down. However, the plan is to go out with a bang. Beginning in the new year, the countdown to August 2023 and the End of an Era will begin. The plan is to do a series of special shows revisiting old topics, featuring old contributors (myself included), and reviving old shows (temporarily at least). Expect to see At the Garden again for sure. I hope to coax a few longtime contributors to do a one time special comeback shows. The plan is to have fun and put a bow on this thing, exactly 10 years after the beginning in 2013. OJ, finally our reading syncs up, at least a little. I have 3 issues to go on 60s Doom Patrol. I feel about the same as you. The characters are fun, the stories are mostly forgettable. Very repetitive main plots (Doom Patrol fight the bad guy of the month) with the most interesting stuff coming in the ongoing subplots (although I hate Steve Dayton/Mento and can't believe Rita married that loser lol). My favorite backup was Larry's origin and his comical struggle to find a job post accident. I also agree with OMAC. Great start, like most of 70s Kirby, then a slow fizzle to the end. I think I even preferred Devil Dinosaur as an overall series tbh. I read Phantom Zone a while back during my Gerber kick, and yeah, it was pretty pointless. It's been a while since I've updated my current reading in this thread, so here's a quick rundown. Still plugging along with Roy Thomas' Avengers run. Really up and down. Basically, the issues with John Buscema on art (especially with Tom Palmer on inks) are very good superhero fare, otherwise, mostly skippable. I'm coming up on the famous Kree-Skrull War storyline, which I've only read a little bit previously, so we'll see how Thomas/Adams goes. I've tried a few of the series that recent MCU shows are based on, like 2014 Ms. Marvel and Dan Slott's She-Hulk. I enjoyed both. I may give She-Hulk a longer look. Planning on giving the complete Spider Verse from 2014 a whirl soon. As for DC, I've been reading all the Jim Aparo illustrated Brave & the Bold from his start on the book. Mostly fun, but the team-ups get very repetitive, and writer Bob Haney loves his Batman strolling around in the daylight hours a bit too much for my liking. Started Ostrander's Spectre from the beginning and digging it so far. And, wonder of wonders, I read the first 8 issues of The Sandman, motivated by the debut of the Netflix show. I like it so far, especially issue 4, which is an all-time great single issue. Also still reading classic comic strips, alternating between Dick Tracy and Li'l Abner. And if anyone out there has any leads on reasonably priced volumes of Fantagraphics Popeye reprints, let a brother know

Maple Leaf Wrestling (the TV show) was Superstars, just with Canadian house show promos hosted by Billy Red Lyons. There may have been some different commentary, but I only remember the Vince-Jesse (pre-88 with Bruno) team

It's like the opposite of the cliched fish catching story, with each retelling the old school pre -Vince wrestling venues get smaller and smaller. Eventually the story will be Vince created Sports Entertainment out of thin air one day in 1984

One thing to consider about Hogan's 80s booking is that he was often booked at the Meadowlands and Nassau Coliseum during months he wasn't booked at MSG. So still in the same market. Sometimes what were basically rematches from MSG shows would be held at the Meadowlands. Hogan vs OMG in 1987 being one example off the top of my head

MSG shows were traditionally always on a Monday until some point in the 90s First televised MSG card was actually 6/30/73 on HBO, before the MSG Network started. Same format, camera set up, Vince announcing, etc. First PRISM was 4/2/77 according to History of WWE. Little footage is out there of the 77-78 broadcasts though

One of the main reasons I've only been able to stomach WWE in small doses since the Attitude Era is because of their neverending obsession with the aesthetic of early-00s Nu Metal, which I've always loathed

I didn't really like Hogan as a kid either, although I was enthralled by his big matches, like against Orndorff in the cage on SNME and Mania 3 vs Andre. I loved the Bulldogs, Tito Santana, Ricky Steamboat, Piper, and Owen Hart in Stampede. Later I became a huge Savage fan and the whole Megapowers exploding deal actually led to me losing interest in wrestling for a while because I was disillusioned Savage was turned heel because of it

Stampede is of course notorious for clipped matches, so match recommendations aren't really the way to go. I grew up on 1986-89 Stampede, so if you can find a good run of full shows from then, especially 86-87, you should have a fun time. You've probably come across this, but if not this playlist has a good sampling of full shows, although frustratingly not in chronological order

Danielson vs Okada seems like a no-brainer dream match if it's possible

Just finished Night Force, the Wolfman/Colan book from 82-83, which reunited the Tomb of Dracula team at DC (minus inker Tom Palmer). I really wanted to like this. It has its strong points, such as lead character Baron Winters, and the initial seven-part story arc, combining horror, adventure, science fiction and Cold War espionage, is pretty good, but the remaining 7 issues are nothing special. In fact, I would avoid the final 4 issues completely, as the book goes off the rails and the series ends with a whimper. Finally reading 60s Doom Patrol and it's really fun. Also finally reading Jason Aaron's Thor run from the beginning and I love it so far. Still on the Dick Tracy train, and to add to my classic newspaper strip reading, I'm ambitiously attempting to go through Li'l Abner from the beginning. I know Al Capp turned out to be scum, but I've been intrigued by this strip for years and finally have the means to read a large chunk of it if I want. We'll see how it goes. Also reading Roy Thomas-era Avengers, 70s Phantom Stranger and about to dive into Kubert's Tarzan, which I read bits and pieces of many years ago but never the whole run
