Stampede is of course notorious for clipped matches, so match recommendations aren't really the way to go. I grew up on 1986-89 Stampede, so if you can find a good run of full shows from then, especially 86-87, you should have a fun time. You've probably come across this, but if not this playlist has a good sampling of full shows, although frustratingly not in chronological order

Introduction to the Board as a wrestling fan
Ricky Jackson replied to soup23's topic in Forums Feedback
Welcome to PWO Brynn! -
Pretty much what Reel stated, a few clips and a couple Baba matches. There is/was also a 1969 match vs George Steele that was a Hidden Gems upload on the Network a few years back. As a long time Bruno lover, warms my heart to see all the love here

Two Titans of comics two weekends in a row. George Perez passed away last night

Danielson vs Okada seems like a no-brainer dream match if it's possible

Just finished Night Force, the Wolfman/Colan book from 82-83, which reunited the Tomb of Dracula team at DC (minus inker Tom Palmer). I really wanted to like this. It has its strong points, such as lead character Baron Winters, and the initial seven-part story arc, combining horror, adventure, science fiction and Cold War espionage, is pretty good, but the remaining 7 issues are nothing special. In fact, I would avoid the final 4 issues completely, as the book goes off the rails and the series ends with a whimper. Finally reading 60s Doom Patrol and it's really fun. Also finally reading Jason Aaron's Thor run from the beginning and I love it so far. Still on the Dick Tracy train, and to add to my classic newspaper strip reading, I'm ambitiously attempting to go through Li'l Abner from the beginning. I know Al Capp turned out to be scum, but I've been intrigued by this strip for years and finally have the means to read a large chunk of it if I want. We'll see how it goes. Also reading Roy Thomas-era Avengers, 70s Phantom Stranger and about to dive into Kubert's Tarzan, which I read bits and pieces of many years ago but never the whole run

The North-South Connection Podcast Feed w/ JT & Chad
Ricky Jackson replied to Bigelow34's topic in Publications and Podcasts
My compliments to whoever came up with that as a name for the podcast. Brilliant -
I think Michaels and Goldust worked a ladder match at Exhibition Stadium in TO in the summer of 96, maybe other places

Has this been around for years and I was just not aware of it? -
Wrestling in unusual contexts

Yeah, after thinking more about the whole thing, my pro wrestling brain is probably clouding my better judgment lol -
Wrestling in unusual contexts

Seems like a work to me, but the overwhelming consensus in the media is that it was a shoot, which is strange in a modern world so quick to scream "fake" at everything and embrace insane conspiracies as truth -
One my favorites to watch back in the 90s. Pretty underrated as a major star and as a wrestler imo. Great character stuff and great matches. RIP

Yep, that was right before the blowoff I believe

Call me crazy, but I was a big fan of the Tye Dillinger vs Eric Young feud in NXT from 2016-17. Just solid progression over several months, climaxing in a satisfying cage match blowoff

Yeah, I remember being shocked during an early D-X skit shot somewhere in New York where a fan came up to shake X-Pac's hand and Pac towered over him -
Under-the-radar wrestling book recommendations
Ricky Jackson replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
Yeah, definitely one of the best wrestler autobiographies as far as deep diving on their career goes (well, at least his career up to 1984) -
It's because an accent was used on the second "o" in Colon. Using a unique character in the title always breaks a thread

Yeah, I considered checking out the mag but wasn't sure if it advanced the story or not. I'm going to check out the Dr. Strange storyline with Dracula from a few years later. Also going to read Night Force soonish, the book Wolfman/Colan did together at DC in the early 80s

A month late, but yeah, I dug Future Imperfect back when I read it years ago. A long term Perez-David run on Hulk would've been great. Speaking of ol' Greenskin, Hulk: Grand Design by Jim Rugg is coming out at the end of the month and I'm hyped for it. Very much enjoyed the previous Grand Design entries, X Men by Ed Piskor and FF by Tom Scioli. FYI, the three have a YouTube channel called Cartoonist Kayfabe that often reviews old school comics and is really cool https://youtube.com/c/CartoonistKayfabe I enjoyed Thanos Quest but still haven't pulled the trigger on Infinity Gauntlet for whatever reason, even though I've read all the other Starlin cosmic stuff. Got to finally get around to that. As far as my personal reading goes, I finally finished Tomb of Dracula a few days ago. The series rallied for the final 5 or so issues and delivered a fairly satisfying conclusion, considering the series was (I think) abruptly canceled and Wolfman had to tie things up quickly. Overall, a really good series, well deserving of its reputation as an all time classic. The peak was from about 15-45, with good stuff on both sides, but the early stuff is inconsistent and the later stuff loses its focus imo. Otherwise still plugging along with Dick Tracy, 50s Batman, EC New Direction and 70s Kirby (currently Black Panther, which is fun so far). Clearly nothing too deep or serious, I need an escape from the bleak modern world

Actually had a very solid run in multiple territories from 82-87, capped with the major peak of his WWF run. His WCCW stint in 82-83 really showcases his versatility, working babyface, heel, singles, tags, and doing promos and vignettes. Really surprised he wasn't nominated last time
-
Some of the super heated matches he had during the first few months of his reign, when fans were super pissed this dork of all people was now IC champ, are quite fun to watch. I'm specifically thinking vs Savage and Steamboat from MSG in the second half of 87

If WWE has any sense of humor at all, Cody will debut wearing the polka dots. Then he would dramatically rip them off to reveal some new gaudy American flag inspired trunks or something
-
It makes sense if he is able to get top guy money and a top guy spot out of this, since that is basically why he left in the first place. He couldn't get that from WWE in 2016, and this is probably his last best chance. WWE would be dumb not to treat his comeback like a huge deal if they care anything about being relevant in 2022, but this is WWE in 2022, so seems like there is a better chance he'll be an afterthought by the end of the year. Make ridiculous money and then either retire or go back to AEW in a few years

Well, I guess Stone Cold could be wrestling for the first time in 19 years vs KO at Mania?

WWE TV 01/31 - 02/06 Roman gunning for that 600 day reign
Ricky Jackson replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
Other than the feud with Austin (and even that went on way past the point of being entertaining TV), once "McMahon" became more than just the name of one of the announcers, and the family was constantly on TV in greater to lesser degrees (and expanded to include HHH), it has been an ongoing struggle for "quality" to emerge from a WWE that mostly caters to the whims of the boss. And this has gotten really bad in the last 4-5 years imo, to the point of WWE being completely devoid of anything redeeming (sorry bubba, even the Big Dog doesn't do it for me)
