  1. I've never had any issues. Is this widespread?
  2. Vince Sr did come up with the "Hulk Hogan" name in 1979 when Hogan had a (quite successful relative to other heels) run in WWF. I wasn't a fan then, but a wrestler appearing in a memorable role in a box office hit was unheard of back then, and still is today. Also a wrestler appearing on Carson was very significant. Hogan was a huge wrestling star well before January 1984. But going to NYC and being part of the Vince hype machine made him the biggest star ever
  3. Andre book by Laprade is easily one of the best wrestler bios ever written
  4. Episode 98 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-98-parade-of-champions-may-6-1984-pt-2 May 6, 1984 The boys finish up the David Von Erich Memorial Parade of Champions with a look at some of the most memorable matches in Texas history! -The Super D's vs Iceman Parsons/Disgraced 80s wrestler, tag titles -Fritz/Kevin/Mike Von Erich vs the Freebirds, Badstreet match -Kerry Von Erich vs Ric Flair, NWA title The boys also break down the world premiere of a video too bad (not cool bad, just bad bad) for MTV, "Badstreet USA". Join us in one week for our last review show, and then August 17 for the series finale with #100!
  5. Found a list of notable WON's on WC, done by once major wrestling wordsmith jdw...but it's from 2003 http://wrestlingclassics.com/.ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=7;t=000137
  6. That's a very good question. There should be some kind of index or list of all the significant obits and historical pieces somewhere out there but I dont know if there is. Surely one of the crazy obsessives in the hardcore community has done this at some point?
  7. For me, Gargano vs Cole I from Mania weekend 2019 was the moment it stopped being fun. That was a great show prior to the main, but the minute that wankfest was unleashed my fandom, going back to early 2015 and rarely missing a show, began to flame out. I went to Takeover:Toronto and that was kinda my goodbye in retrospect. As soon as they added a second hour and stopped showing it live on the Network, I was totally done. Looking back, there were cracks, especially the Gargano vs Ciampa feud, but Gargano vs Cole for several months really destroyed my interest. It was a good run, but yeah, NXT is basically just main roster now. Oh well
  8. Of all the goddamn wrestlers I could share a birthday with (also Matt Borne and Greg Gagne)
  9. Episode 97 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-97-parade-of-champions-may-6-1984-pt-1 May 6, 1984 (Yeah, we skipped 9 episodes. It's called "phoning it in at the end") One last supercard for the boys to review, and it's the biggest supercard in the history of the territory. 32,000 + were on hand in Texas Stadium on a boiling hot day. Part 1 looks at... -Chris Adams/Sunshine vs Jimmy Garvin/Precious -Butch Reed vs Chick Donovan -Kamala vs The Great Kabuki -JYD vs Missing Link Join us next week for part 2, featuring perhaps the biggest match in Texas history!
  10. Ha, that never once occurred to me, and I grew up a huge Bret fan in 90s Calgary! I always thought it was a reference to Calgary's Old West cowboy roots/identity
  11. That was awful. I totally dont remember that at all. What was the context of the promo?
  12. Hey, props to them for respecting continuity from that obscure and forgotten Facebook show they did a few years back
  13. The headline of that article is the very definition of misleading and Ross should be pissed at them for stirring up drama. Ross just questioned Taz standing in front of Cage during promos, and that Cage needs to show more personality, not that Cage "doesn't need Taz"
  14. That's a good question and one I've wondered for a while. There is a decent amount from the 83-84 heyday out there, and probably beyond, but I'm far less familiar with the late 80s era. I'm not sure if any has ever turned up on the Network. Probably a good chance the promotion never had the tapes to the Ft Worth shows, just the Sportatorium, but who knows
  15. And it's funny (and typical revisionist history WWE) that the main roster debut of Becky, Charlotte and Sasha is being celebrated as a milestone because I recall it being pretty underwhelming and the first few months being bungled with forced stables with stupid sounding names
  16. Episode 96 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-96-high-school-spot-show-january-12-1984 January 12, 1984 A random handheld from a high school show in Greenville, TX highlights the first of the Final Five episodes, as the boys countdown to the series finale with #100! The matches are nothing special and we've seen them a million times anyway, but the crowd is absolutely crazy and this is a great snapshot of a territory at its zenith. Enjoy!
  17. Jesus, that's like Andre standing on a crate being interviewed by Vince Jr in the 70s
  18. Welcome aboard! From a pure ego perspective it always makes me feel good hearing about someone enjoying Titans and other podcasts I've been involved with over the years. I'm feeling nostalgic because we're wrapping World Cast up with #100 and I'm stepping back from podcasts other than an occasional show here and there. Yesterday I was reminiscing about Titans. Anyway, glad we were able to steer you to PWO
  19. Bolsonaro has covid, to pay off @KawadaSmile long term booking
  20. https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/international-house-of-combat-9-mexico Kelly and Steve head to the land of Lucha for a look at some of Mexico's oldest known wrestling footage AND one of the bloodiest matches you'll ever see! Viewed and commented upon... Rene Guajardo y Espanto Segundo vs Black Shadow y Rolando Vera (1966) & Trauma I vs Canis Lupis, Mascara contra Mascara (2016) The mask vs mask match is a crazy, bloody brawl with a surprise twist at the very end of the video. Watch along here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV6RCTo_Cd0Bo314nxGlwPp-IfC14LctC
  21. Plan on starting Hickman's Fantastic Four run soon. It's going to be my starting point for exploring the 2010s
  22. No plans as of now, but I'm sure we will get together for occasional special releases. I do have tons of ideas for future projects, but it all depends on being motivated. Having lost a lot of enthusiasm for wrestling doesn't help
  23. I chose "Heaven" by the Talking Heads for a few reasons, one being the title suggests "Heaven Needed a Champion" and its relation to David. The version I used is from the film Stop Making Sense, which was released in 1984. But it's mainly a personal song, one I envisioned as the final song on the last episode of Titans (symmetry with episode 0, which used "Road to Nowhere" by the Talking Heads). Since we are wrapping things up soon, I wanted to use "Heaven" as an outro, and this seemed as good a spot as any for it
  24. Episode 95 (I fixed the numbering in the archive, so nobody missed anything) https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-95-rest-in-peace-david/s-qCUHKn66t59 March 3, 1984 Under the dark clouds of June, 2020, the boys get together to talk about an awful WCCW tribute show for David Von Erich and, more importantly, salute a great professional wrestler
  25. Hope you're right but everything always seems to come up Vince no matter how horrible WWE is
