Oooh...those 79 matches sound interesting, especially the Baron and Bad News team (that sounds like the title of a 70s TV show actually)
-
Rumour is they're actually one and the same 😉

Backlund vs Strong Kobayashi from 6/3/78 is pretty good, almost house show quality good. Piper's match with Estrada from 8/11/79 is fascinating. First, he's a face, which surprised me because I assumed he worked heel during his brief cameo in 79. Second, within minutes he's an over like crazy face to the Hamburg faithful after he makes a fired up comeback on Estrada, who had jumped him before the bell. Third, Albano comes down to ringside and briefly jaws with Piper, which is not only a tantalizing tease at what could've been, but also a peak into the future. Seeing how over he was here I'm still not exactly sure why he wasn't given a real run in NYC at the time

I get it you're a big fan of WAR? Maybe I would be if I ever see any of it. Probably too modern for my tastes

I guess I prefer my wrestling to be Romantic

Sean, make sure to watch the Philly strap match between Valentine and Strongbow from August 79 if you can. It's not talked about a lot but I thought it was a great match too
-
Backlund vs Patterson from 7/30/79 MSG is one of Bob's best and definitely one of the best 70s WWWF matches

Wait until you get to 1980, then your face will melt off
-
Ciampa vs Gargano is going to be so crazy when they finally fight. Crowd heat will be bonkers. Love how the build so far is the crowd booing the shit out of Ciampa as he tries to cut a promo and chanting for Gargano

God bless the Golden "Terra" (As Vince calls him)

Looks like it

Rougeau's babyface run is pretty uninspiring from what I've seen

World Cast: A WCCW Review
Ricky Jackson replied to Ricky Jackson's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Episode 27 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-27 September 11, 1982 (WCCW 38) CAN THE FREEBIRDS JUST GET HERE AND HEAT THIS TOWN THE F*CK UP, PLEASE?!?!? The boys are getting a little weary of the same old, same old. I mean, Brian Adidas vs Roberto Renesto sucks hard. The Superfly is one of the least menacing heels ever. Kabuki is getting stale. Bundy is too, kinda. Jay Saldi. Dear God, Jay Saldi. On the plus side, there is plenty of talk about the hottest wrestling star on the planet, Hulk Hogan, and his brother, Dizzy, is coming to the territory...maybe. The main event is Bundy vs David, and it's alright. We just need some hope World Cast: We can make it! -
Her name means nothing in official WWE history unfortunately

Maybe he's related to another heavy set fan with a liking for front row seats from Philly...
-
Freddie Blassie focusing on the same obese fan at ringside and running him down week after week during his ringside promo while Vince cracks up is awesome
-
Add Larry Z vs the Golden Terror from 3/25/78 to the worth a watch list. Unusual finish too

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
Ricky Jackson replied to TravJ1979's topic in Pro Wrestling
In the end, most of the major territories did themselves in through a combination of different factors. The pre 1986 WWF TV product wasn't really that inferior compared to a lot of places, like the AWA for example. Plus, the the quality of the Saturday TV wasn't a major factor in their success. What really mattered was WWF had the mainstream hype no other territory could match. Remember they were on MTV, and SNME debuted on NBC in May 1985. Hulk Hogan was on the cover of SI right after Mania. Still, it was a gradual process, and the South wasn't a much of a draw for them until the Austin years of the late 90s -
No, Vince would just go silent sometimes. More so on the MSG shows than the TV, and it was more an issue when he was young and relatively inexperienced

No Dom DeNucci in those initial classes sucks, but he was likely tainted through association with Bruno and now the time has passed
-
I think that looks like an interesting list and will probably include a lot of good stuff. Hopefully no riots due to the mythical Savage vs Taker match yet again failing to materialize Lol

I think the belt on the right was worn by Pedro Morales in 70/71 when he returned to the WWWF and just before he defeated Koloff for the WWWF belt (Pedro came to the ring with the US title against Koloff I believe). The other was Rogers US belt that became the first WWWF title in 1963 after he lost the NWA belt to Thesz
