Obviously both are just big spot type of guys, but I enjoy RVD spots a lot more so he is who I voted for. Plus his bump from a ddt gets a thumbs up.

I can definitely see why you would think that as they had some great matches. We also have the videotape proof, where matches against the Rockers are pure speculation. I guess I can envision Marty or Shawn taking a backdrop into the lights from Nikita or them landing a double dropkick on the chin of Ivan instead of chest level. Either way I think they would of been awesome.

Both are in my top ten so it's a tough choice. I always enjoyed the Rockers better ever since I was a teen in the 80's and I'm not changing now. Lol. RnR had way better feuds and a longer run, I just never dug their move set nearly as much as Marty and Shawn. I think they can do everything RnR can do. Put them in JCP in 86 against the same teams and they would be even better than the originals. The one comparison team that they both faced would be Tully/Arn and I'll take the Rockers matches of theirs over RnR overall.

Lanny Poffo for me at the moment. I've been watching a ton of WWF house shows and I can't stand the skipping around and strange style he had and this is before the Genius crap. He has a few nice moves that were different at the time I will give him that, otherwise everything else is just so weak looking. I always thought he should of been put in a long term tag ( maybe put him with Brunzell instead of Blair), now I'm not so sure after more viewing.

Really enjoyed the 88 Royal Rumble article. " Glamour Grandmas" had me cracking up. This site is quickly becoming a daily for me. Keep up the good work!

I bought the original Nintendo system in 8th grade in 1987 specifically for the Pro Wrestling game. So that would have to be my favorite. Starman, and King Slender rocked. There was also a guy who bit your head. Can't remember his name. I also liked the WCW game with the Road Warriors on the cover which came around 89 or so. The finishing moves and graphics were decent for the times. I still have the box for this for some odd reason, no game as I never got it back after lending it out and just forgot about it.

To me it always looked like Harley was trying to get hardway juice with those angled shots of his. I can agree with that. He did seem to be aiming at the brow.
-
I always thought Harley Race threw a good punch. It wasn't quick, just looked very crisp. He also threw it different, more from the top with a downward slice. I have to agree about Lawler as well.

Out of all the 80's territories this one wasn't covered much in the 20 plus publications that were around back then might have something to do with it. They did have the rankings at times in the Apter mags, but that was about it, never any articles from what I remember. From the little I have seen it was really bad in the 80's. I think this was after JCP purchased it they were pushing the MOD Squad, enough said. It was worse than Wild West IMO. I have heard of people liking it in the 70's on KM though.

I love tag team wrestling from the 80's and 90's. It is my go to when I want to watch wrestling. #1- Road Warriors. Love everything about them. They had such a great look, charisma, presence and their promos were great. Being billed from Chicago which is where I'm from along with Iron Man as their entrance music only added to the aura for me. It really didn't then or now matter that they were not great workers. #2 - Steiner Brothers. When they came around they had such a different move set that I had never seen up to that point is what made them stand out for me. Also having an amateur background made them seen legit. They never had the greatest psychology, but still had a ton of fun matches, especially in the first few years or so. They were one of the few wrestlers worth tuning into WCW for in the early 90's. #3 - British Bulldogs. Like the Steiners they never had the greatest psychology. They made up for that with a cool look and some very original gymnastic type of moves for the time, combine that with some power moves and you had a fun team. I still love watching their matches with the Hart Foundation. #4 - Midnight Rockers. Love their stuff in both the AWA and the WWF. Their aerial moves were the best of any team from that era IMO. I never saw them as a rip off of RNR, just an updated version. I still remember seeing that Vegas bloodbath match with Rose/Somers as a teen in 86 and thinking it was one of the best matches I had seen up to that point, I still think that. #5 - This spot is really forever team I'm digging at the moment as it can change from week to week. Some that would fall into this category would be MX, Doom, RNR, High Flyers, Birds Sheepherders, Fantastics, VE, SST, Hart Foundation, Tully/Arn, Russians, Gino/Adams, Rougeaus and POP.

IIRC Andre gets Brody in a bear hug. Not sure if they do much more than that as I haven't seen it in a while.

Married with kids? When do you have time to watch?
victory replied to Smack2k's topic in Pro Wrestling
My wife hasn't watched wrestling since the Monday Night Wars and my twins are 7yrs old now and only one of them likes to watch it a little. He is kind of growing out of it. For the most part I only watch wrestling when the kids are in school for a few hours in the morning before hitting the sack before they get home. If I didn't work third shift I probably wouldn't have any time to watch it all. -
I believe it comes out next weekend to kind of coincide with the NWA fanfest.
-
On that Youtube page I found a 1/?/80 Harley Race vs Rick Martel match for the NWA strap. I haven't had the chance to watch it yet. It sure sounds kick ass.

Crockett expansion years- 1986 was great. So many great feuds going on. Magnum vs Nikita, Dusty vs the Horsemen, Warriors vs MX, RnR vs Horsemen, Warriors vs Russians, etc,,,. No other year comes even close to me. 1987 is good, just not great. 88 really falls off for me. Too many faces and not enough top heels beside the Horsemen for a good part of the year. Turner years - 89 for obvious reasons kicked all sorts of ass. 90 is also pretty decent. I really enjoy the tag scene for these two years. A lot of fresh teams make it fun to watch. 92 is great as well due to the Dangerous Alliance. WCCW - 83 might be my favorite year of any promotion. Ton of great stuff. 84 and 85 aren't bad they just don't compare to 83. WWF - 84 is awesome. A fresh World Champion and four great feuds ( Piper vs Snuka, Studd/ Patera vs Andre, Tito vs Valentine and Sarge vs Sheik)Along with new guys coming in constantly makes it fun. 87 is good due to the new look the company has since changing in late 86. Also like 84 it has a ton of new talent. AWA - 84 for reasons stated by Khawk. Mid-South - 84 and 85. Hot shot booking makes these years great as there is so much going on from week to week it's almost too much. ECW - 94 through 96. You really can't go wrong with any of these years. 95 would be my favorite. After 96 the promotion kind of changes direction for me and I don't enjoy quite as much. The novelty of everything they had done wears off by this point.

Watching whole shows vs. watching individual matches
victory replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
It really depends on my mood. If I'm in a mood for example to watch Randy Savage matches I don't want to sit through other stuff to get to his match. So a comp/best of is the way I go. Then other times I'm just in a mood to watch a World Class show and don't really care who is on the card. I just want to enjoy the whole feel of the show from start to finish. Overall I'm 50/50 I would say. For music I'm definitely a person who only wants to listen to a few songs off an album. I will listen to the whole thing once, but after that I'm going to pick and choose from what I liked at first listen. -
Sounds like this will be better than my first thought. The no doc part really turned me off originally, now I think I'll pick it up.

Gibson would be talked about more if Morton wasn't so great. Put him with a Steve O. type and Gibson is the star of the team, plus they would still be good. I love the back bump over the top rope that Gibson does. Fulton has better offense overall. Plus he is a better bleeder. Selling is about even and an edge to Gibson in bumping. I'm going with Fulton by a hair. Love both teams BTW. Fantastics were the better team and RnR had the better gimmick.

One of my top ten favorites ( top three in the WWF). I wish he would of gotten to have feuds against guys like Savage, Bret or Perfect. The timing just wasn't there. Instead we get Jake, Piper, Warrior and Orndorff which were still solid. His WCW run was better. His matches against Sting and Steamboat are great. The only thing I didn't like about him is the spot where he let's the babyface pull his pants down so he can show his bare ass. How do you explain that when a non wrestling fan walks into the room?
-
I'm pretty sure that was just an arena show. I've seen pics from it in a Japanese mag. That's all though.

I liked Lawler in the mid 90's and for the most part during the Attitude era. After he came back in 2002 or so not so much. He's kind of become a parody of himself by this point.
