Funk from the Double Cross Ranch! He's looking for Gilbert with his horse Clyde, then, sees Gilbert is there in the form of Clyde's ass. He proceeds to explain the rules & regulations of a Texas Chain Match to Gilbert. Lifting Clyde's tail to make sure Eddie hears him. He asks what Eddie thinks about that, then lifting Clyde's tail as he rips ass. "Your voice has changed but your breath is still the same. My goodness. Hot Stuff." Best promo of the year. ECW!

[1993-05-03-NJPW-Fukuoka Dome] Hulk Hogan vs Great Muta
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Pretty crazy to have Sting & Hogan on the same show here. Not that it would've changed things from New Japan's perspective, but do we know where Hogan's head was at regarding his future in WWF at this point? There were noticeably a few WCW references in the commentary. Hogan with a takeover into cross armbar is more of a hold than I've ever seen from him. Gaijin Hogan is definitely fun to watch. Muta seemed determined to bring this down as he bails outside and goes under the ring for what feels like an eternity. The crowd also seems pretty indifferent to him and was hotter for Fujiwara/Hase. Hogan hits a nice backdrop suplex on the floor and takes a vertical suplex on the ramp before the windsprint lariat. We should've banned Hogan from the US for a year like Japan did Doc if it would mean performances like this. It gets a bit much when Muta resorts to a bunch of hokey gimmicks that Hogan nonetheless bumps for. Hogan Axe Bomber but Muta mists him before another Axe Bomber finishes it. Love the Buddha statue Hogan receives afterwards. I may be giving it too much credit for sheer shock at seeing Hogan try this hard, but I dug it. ***- 12 replies

[1993-05-03-NJPW-Fukuoka Dome] Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs Hiroshi Hase
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
We get some nice slaps from Fujiwara early before it settles into some solid action on the mat with both trying for submissions and body control. Things pick up with some vicious Fujiwara headbutts that he's just loving, while Hase pulls out a giant swing and uranage as his personality starts to show. Heelish, snap on a dime bully Hiroshi Hase is probably my favorite Hase. The only thing holding this back from being great as that abrupt finish, which just didn't fit at all and seemed premature. Best thing from this show that we saw though, and worked well following Sting/Norton as something completely different. ***1/4- 11 replies

[1993-05-03-NJPW-Fukuoka Dome] Sting vs Scott Norton
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Norton looks like Ryback. Sting with an early dive and Norton thereafter selling a knee injury isn't how I envisioned these two start things. Norton is then posted and sports a sick blade job, selling it like a champ while having a couple hope spots including the powerslam that would make any babyface proud. We even get the ref checking the cut with his bare hands, which is far from sanitary, but they're not my hands, so get all up in that cut. What happened at the finish? Did the doctor stop it because of blood? Given who was involved this was really incredible and what's even more incredible is that it had a much higher ceiling had it continued and had a proper comeback and finish. Huge tease of what these two do could do with others given this layout. *** -
Only argument would be pressure from TV partners forcing them to ante up, which I'm sure isn't the case. TV is their biggest source of cash and one they obviously can't ignore, but you'd think this would be something to feature on the Network.

[1993-05-03-AJW-Grand Prix] Akira Hokuto vs Toshiyo Yamada
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
I liked this because the action was good as would be expected from these two, with Yamada's kicks and Hokuto's dives always making things fun. I didn't love it though as it seemed like they dropped the injured arm as a focus very early and then fell into a my turn/your turn routine, almost what I'd expect from a Toyota singles but not on fast forward. Loved the post-match action, but not enough here to make it anything particularly memorable ***1/4- 13 replies

[1993-05-02-WWF-Providence, RI] Shawn Michaels vs Mr Perfect
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Call me crazy but I enjoyed the booking antics with the Gunns out to tattle after a belt shot, and Perfect getting a win only to have it overturned. That being said, this still wasn't good because it was unnecessarily long and most of the time between all the shenanigans was pure filler and shortcuts. Maybe it works at 8-12 minutes, but not at this length. **1/2 -

[1993-05-01-WCW-Saturday Night] Rick Rude and Dustin Rhodes
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Dustin doesn't come out for a match, but Rude shows up and says Dustin had a mishap backstage. Dustin makes his way out and wants to go at it with Rude, but Dusty holds him back. Rude says we've got the disease and the spread of the disease in the ring. They brawl as they go off the air in a nice angle.- 7 replies

[1993-05-01-WCW-Saturday Night] Flair for the Gold: Vader & Harley Race
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Would it have been so hard for WWF to keep Flair in a suit when he wasn't in the ring? This feels so much more like Flair than just about anything out of the ring during his WWF run, even if its set in your high school theater. I loved Vader smelling a drink while sitting on a couch with his mask and grunting. Race probably got a big kick out of this segment. Some great comedy here. Talk about breaking Simmons' & Stings' ribs, running off Nikita & Cactus and breaking Joe Thurmond's back. That last part is a bit uncomfortable. Flair asks why he wears the mask and Vader grabs him by his jacket teasing an eventual feud. I enjoyed this a lot.- 13 replies

Lee pins him with a clothesline to win the TV title. Bodies attack him afterwards until RNR save. All building Rage In the Cage and even in the yearbook setting its something to look forward to.

That one definitely dragged and was easily the worst. But Nak/Sak and Suzuki/Nagata more than made up for it on that show. Like you said, it wasn't terrible. Just a far cry from their other matches.

[1993-05-01-USWA-TV] Jeff Jarrett vs Brian Christopher (Hair vs Title)
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Lawler is out and out passing out "Baldie Brian" posters to the studio audience. He probably got a huge kick out of that. Crowd seems really hot for Jarrett and the possibility of seeing Christopher get his head shaved. The wrestlers coming out to watch creates a great atmosphere and certainly sets up a big haircut. Christopher with a near fall on a flying elbow, then rolls through a flying crossbody for 2 as the match builds and feels pretty big. Would almost expect this to be at Miid-Sout but I think we're fortunate that its its not. Steve Doll trips Jarrett coming off the ropes, which lets Christopher wins the title with an elbow. Lawler & faces try to explain it to the ref to no avail and it eventually breaks down into a big brawl. ***1/4 -

Not sure I have the ability to add it here, but could a mod add a poll where people can indicate how they're watching the network? I'm curious the breakout of tablet/pc vs. console/roku/tv device.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I was thinking about going to a taping this week. Now I know why I'm not. I guess they're not going to try anything different this time. -

One Direction and Fast & Furious are clearly better at certain aspects of the music & movie business than other, more critically acclaimed acts. Doesn't mean they're good or bad, but they are succeeding on a pretty important level. Without that, work that doesn't appeal far and wide won't have any platform because the business will dry up. You need a mix, and won't always find both in the same offering.

Looking at the big picture, I think you could certainly argue things were a lot worse during the '93-'95 era. They have a very, very talented roster. At the moment they're booking to minimize that talent, but the assets are there. I can't remember enjoying a Raw less than last night. I was actually kind of pissed at myself for staying up that late and sitting through 3.25 hours of that. There was nothing I found fun in or out of the ring. Here's hoping Bryan is a shot in the arm and that between him, Sting and whatever they do with Cena, Mania season doesn't feel like a slap in the face. On the bright side, the bar has now been set so low that they don't exactly have to hit it out of the park. But man do they ever seem determined to kill crowds.

I'm hoping tonight is the show bottoming out. I can't imagine a longer 3 hours with literally nothing entertaining.
