Pre-surgery, Tammy is very pretty and well spoken. Of the New England Sytches, who everyone should've heard of. Filed a sexual discrimination suit against SMW for not employing women. She goes to Wellesley, just like Hillary Clinton did. She'll start as manager, and maybe onto promoting, then commissioner. I already enjoy her more than Cornette.

[1993-04-24-WWF-Superstars] Update: Lex Luger and his steel forearm!
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
Gorilla recaps Luger KO'ing Hart at Mania press conference. Xrays show Luger has a steel plate in his forearm following a motorcycle accident. -
[1993-04-24-USWA-TV] Jeff Jarrett vs Brian Christopher
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
Lots of punching by both, but nothing too great here. I suppose it plays well for a studio match. Rex King & Steve Doll in to attack Jarrett, Billy Joe Travis seemed to be waiting for the run in and they attack him as well. Pretty poorly done. Lawler eventually saves. -
Promo that seems to focus on softball while including a brief mention for a Monday night show and Sherri.

Greatest Upsets In Professional Wrestling?
WingedEagle replied to Fantastic's topic in Pro Wrestling
Rewatched the finish of Lesnar/Taker today. Very comfortable saying I've never seen a crowd that shocked at a finish. They weren't yawning after that last F-5, but were simply waiting for something else to bridge things to Undertaker winning. Then he lost and it was the wrestling version of Chris Webber calling a timeout he didn't have, Charles Smith blowing 4 layups or Leon Lett. Just incredible. Were the announcers tipped to the finish before it happened or no? -
There was plenty of good to be found in 1993 WCW if you're cherry picking. But on a week to week basis its not hard to see why that TV was excruciating.

Off the top of my head, a few I enjoyed include the PPV matches with Cena and Hardy, Michaels on Raw, Undertaker at Mania and Summerslam, Orton on Raw during the rated RKO period and the Backlash '07 four way, I also loved his out of ring work on Smackdown for most of the time he was on top there. One of my favorite characters.

Han is ridiculous. Everything is so smooth, fluid and just looks so natural. But I'm not breaking any ground here. Between his varied strikes and seemingly endless ability to go for submissions that don't look at all ridiculous you get a nice look at what Han can do. Fun and original match that probably plays better on a yearbook than on a show of similar action. ***1/2

[1993-04-24-AJW] Manami Toyota & Yumiko Hotta vs Aja Kong & Kyoko Inoue
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
While I often wish for Toyota to slow down and let things breathe a little, this was neither here nor there. Action and offense were strong, but it all just kind of fell together and wasn't in any way coherent which resulted in my finding this just good. Also not in love with Kyoko as she seems to be a less athletic & dynamic Toyota with the volume turned down. Not that that's necessarily bad, but you only need so much of that. I liked Kong planting Hotta & Toyota in opposite corners and splashing both. Hotta with a stiff jumping piledriver on Kong was great. They love piledrivers here. More Hotta would've been hotter. Har har. ***1/4 -
Bret talks about people counting him down and out but he's coming back. Looking for Luger first, who attacked him right before Mania. This feels a bit awkward and Bret seems uncomfortable on the mic. Also mentions Yoko & Hogan, suggesting something there was in the cards for Summerslam.

[1993-04-17-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler vs Randy Savage (Cage)
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
Basically punching and a blade job by Lawler. Nothing special here but its no worse than their stuff from the 80s. Then we get to the highlight as Sherri climbs the cage during Lawler's comeback and she interferes for a cage match DQ. A couple low blows before he ducks a shot and she nails Savage and he rips her dress off. -
[1993-04-17-WCW-Worldwide] Barry Windham vs Steven Regal
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
Windham working hammerlock and grinding his forearm into Regal's shoulder and tricep is great, and then bodyslams Regal onto the bad arm. Regal eventually turns the tables and goes after Windham's arm. Good, stiff fun here and Regal's selling is a nice and different look for WCW. As great the limb work was, I wish it was more a part of the entire match rather than just an isolated segment that didn't really go anywhere. This was really good for the time they had and left you wanting more. ***1/4- 14 replies

Bull's probably my favorite joshi star, and I like Devil quite a bit as well so I enjoyed this. But it was too much of a good thing. There's only so long I want to see Bull Nakano working holds on the mat, even if she's competent at it. Going this long I understand why they mixed things up so much, as you had the matwork, suplexes & slams, stomping fingers, brawling on the floor, the whole gamut. Devil bridges out of a moonsault and I won't tolerate that anymore from her than Toyota. I'm usually not as sensitive to long finishing runs that some folks find repetitive, but this one was too much. That being said, everything they did was solid and they had a goal of going this long and it was nice to see them so happy with what they accomplished afterwards. Not bad, just not what you wanted. ***1/2

[1993-04-17-NWA-Grandslam I] Sabu vs Lightning Kid
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
I still enjoy the Sabu character. Some fun spots from Sabu throughout and Kid spilled some solid blood, but it felt like they took the long road to get where they were going, which was highspots and blood. A more compact version would've been a lot better. **3/4- 10 replies

[1993-04-17-WCW-Saturday Night] Vader vs Cactus Jack
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
I love Vader hop stepping. Vader just laying it in with his strikes. Cactus catches Vader and slams him, then a top rope lariat and it goes to the floor for more rapid fire violence. Cactus is busted open and his face a mess from all the stiff shots. Vader sends Cactus to the floor but misses a splash on the railing that lets Cactus win via countout. More brutal than New Japan vs. WAR but not as heated or dramatic. Still, great pace here and didn't leave you time to blink. I slightly preferred it to the rematch which was a little more cartoonish. ***1/2- 12 replies

[1993-04-17-SMW-TV] Rock & Roll Express and the Heavenly Bodies
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
RNR promo, as Cornette has going away present for them. Pritchard throws powder at them and they lay them out before tarring & feathering Morton Lee & Smothers eventually chase off the Bodies. RNR promo afterwards already teasing a loser leaves town match. -
[1993-04-17-WWF-Superstars] Owen Hart vs Bam Bam Bigelow
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
Totally random and fun tv match. Owen with a quick dropkick and then they trade enzuigiris as Bigelow moving really well here. Bigelow drops Owen on a crucifix attempt. Owen takes a nice bump on it and sells the knee afterwards. Bigelow falls on Owen for near fall when he tries for bodyslam. Owen comes back and eventually wins with the flying headbutt. Great use of limited time. *** -
[1993-04-17-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler and Sensational Sherri
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
It took a couple WWF transplants, but Memphis is rolling here. Savage delivers a vintage Savage promo for an upcoming cage match. Lawler is responding with a promo of his own when Sherri comes out and smacks Lawler before Savage attacks him as he tries to piledrive her. Eddie Marlin stops Savage from delivering a piledriver on the floor. Sherri rules. Great heat for all of this. -
[1993-04-16-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Stan Hansen vs Kenta Kobashi
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
From the opening this isn't Hansen running through the rising youngster, as Kobashi hangs with him through strikes and focuses on the lariat arm. He really keys in on it with an armbar, jerking oit over his shoulder and kicks that highlight his strategy. Hansen really gives him a ton here, selling most of the way and putting over the effectiveness of Kobashi's offense on this level. He then resorts to a shoulderblock on the floor and chair shot to take control. Kobashi fights back with a sleeper and multiple legdrops but he can't connect on the moonsault. You'd think that spells the beginning of the end but Kobashi gets to block a powerbomb attempt before the awesome Lariat finish. Really terrific match that sets up what's to come on 7/29 as well as the match in the '94 Carnival, which I just happened to watch on that set. ****- 10 replies

Wyatt will actually inspire me to vote in the WON awards for only the second or third time in years.

At the end of the day I think everyone will have their own way of balancing peak vs. longevity. It should be easy for those with similar longevity in that a higher peak may serve as a tiebreaker, but if you're looking at something like Priest Holmes vs. Jerome Bettis or similar analogy of someone with a higher peak but less years on top it gets dicier. Personally, I can't justify a high, if any, placing for someone like Volk Han. But others will and that's cool. They're the ones who value his work more than other rasslers.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Do fans care at all? Any more than they do about labor disputes in sports? They want games, not business talk. -
I don't think Bret/Flair in 1/93 holds up very well vs. either Bret/Michaels or HHH/Rock.

[1993-04-14-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Toshiaki Kawada vs Kenta Kobashi
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
This was one hell of a 10 minute clip. They're so quick in exchanging strikes. Its almost like a Tenryu match on steroids with higher level offense but with two guys who aren't quite master level communicators just yet. Kobashi is kicked to the floor going for a moonsault. They both have strong runs with lariats, powerbombs and counters for near falls. Loved Kawada kicking Kobashi as he's coming down going for a flying shoulderblock. Kobashi almost takes it with a powerbomb and jacknife for 2, but then misses a moonsault and Kawada, busted mouth and all, takes it with 2 powerbombs and a high kick in between them. Maybe this was Flair/Steamboat in full, but what we got was pretty terrific. ****- 8 replies
