Is Charlotte Flair the most overpushed WWE wrestler of the century?
WingedEagle replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
Heel Charlotte has been one of the best acts on the roster since she turned a few years back with the big Sasha feud. She's pretty cringeworthy as a babyface character and her toeing the line as seems to be the case lately doesn't do it for me either. But when she's obnoxiously cocky and powerhousing smaller women I think she's a terrific performer. One can easily argue that she's been part of the best main roster match for Sasha, Bayley, Becky, Rousey, Trish, Asuka and others. Perhaps she's been more aggressive in asserting her role/push in recent months, but her name isn't McMahon. At the end of the day she's a voice and not a decision maker. Like every other significant booking decision in the company the credit or blame goes right to the top. -
WWE TV 05/18 - 05/24 The Last Dance was fucking incredible
WingedEagle replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
With AJ moving to Smackdown followed by Riddle/Thatcher in a cage, I could easily see the loser there taking his spot on Raw. -
What a horrible, crushing tragedy. I'm well past hoping a horror like this spurs any kind of cultural change, but 22 years old? I don't know how her friends and family deal with something like this but hope they can find some kind of peace at some point. What a nightmare of a week for this business.

[1994-06-03-AJPW-Super Power Series] Mitsuharu Misawa vs Toshiaki Kawada
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in June 1994
Love the review as always. No one needs an excuse to rewatch 6/3/94 but one upside of quarantining is plenty of time for rasslin so with your recent blog I'm going to have to check out all of these classics again. Really interested in everyone's thoughts on the quoted piece here. How much does a crowd add to a match and enhance your enjoyment? Does the absence of a rabid crowd like you'd find here or for Kobashi/Kikuchi vs. Furnas/Kroffat or Hogan/Rock limit the ceiling on a match? We're often acknowledging how a crowd may enhance a particular match, but why? How much? Should it? Unless you're talking an incredibly small show there's a big difference in how the live crowd will see a match as opposed to those watching on tape and what translates well in one setting may be less effective in another. I'm not sure how I feel about what the priority should be for those in the ring but am curious what others have thought about this.- 49 replies

How did Johnny Ace go from Dynamic Dude to top tier gaijin for Giant Baba to a reasonably high level exec in WWE? What was the connection in Stamford that got him in the door? -
Michael Jordan, obviously. Two more hours of that tonight along with the time to watch this morbid curiosity while working from home make it an easy call to skip a live watch.

While not quite the 5 star all-timer I recorded it as a few years ago, this was still an outstanding match and legit MOTYC. Kobashi's FIP sequence with Jumbo's squad working over his face was incredibly vicious and compelling, with the selling as pointed and impressive as the offense. It didn't go as long as I remembered but still made Kobashi a legend in Korakuen and brilliantly brought the crowd behind him for the finish. ****1/2

Send me Wilson via overnight shipping so I've got someone to hang out with, but I love that match. Botches and all. Taker at Mania still had an aura and Roman brought the goods both in terms of selling and in attacking the legend. A legitimately great match.

This is a fact. She's been the most entertaining character in wrestling for some time now and somehow has risen above the morbid cloud that hangs over current shows.

So the WWF Title was vacated following The Main Event on 2/5/1988 with the twin Hebners angle. The initial bracket for Mania 4 that was released on the following Prime Time and hyped for at least a few weeks would've seen Savage and Dibiase meet in the tourney semifinals. It wasn't until the 3/8/1988 Prime Time that the bracket was revised and Dibiase was moved to the Andre/Hogan half of the bracket to set his path to the finals with a bye. Was there any talk about original plans other than a Savage/Dibiase final that were scrapped and forced a reshuffling or was this simply a lack of attention to details? -

[2020-04-08-WWE-NXT] Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa
WingedEagle replied to SmartMark15's topic in April 2020
I actually didn't mind most of this but thought it was ridiculously too long. This had moments I enjoyed and even appreciated *some* of the narrative, but it didn't even touch something like Edge/Orton where every minute just made me angrier. That was truly an all timer for me. This was just a miss, especially given their history. -
Jimmy wins, again. The Rhipley takes absolutely slayed me. She is so young, and so awesome.
-
Cena, Roman, Cena/Rollins, Bryan, AJ, arguably Balor, Taker a couple times. What else am I forgetting?
-
Well that was certainly underwhelming. Have the titles in this company ever been worth less?
-
I absolutely loathe Wyatt/Fiend and have thought practically every segment or match of his since returning awful other than Bryan at the Rumble. But I loved that.
-
More. I want more. You can't overdo it and make hours of TV like that every week, but that was terrific fun.
-
Quarantine clearly didn't interfere with the Amazon Prime deliveries of high quality narcotics to Titan Towers. God bless.
-
This match is awesome and would've been incredible before a crowd.

Bravo. Best wrestling I've seen since the world went to hell, and one of the few things that's taken my mind away from this nightmare for a half hour.
