This match was heavy on the comedy bits. Stalker Ichikawa's nose picking spot isn't something that I've seen used a lot. Dragon Kid's moonsault from the second rope to outside the ring was another example of spectacular high flying from him. The match never seemed cohesive, but Ichikawa at least made CIMA and the gang deviate from their regular match pattern. Fun match.

[2000-04-24-BJW] Ryuji Yamakawa vs Kintaro Kanemura
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
They clipped all of the connective tissue out of the match, so the big spots were all that remained. It looked like that they both took a beating, especially in that spot where Yamakawa went face first into the table on the ropes. -
[2000-04-22-IPW-Crystal River Carnage] Scoot Andrews vs Jet Jaguar
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
The crowd chants were more fun than the match. Jaguar got called Opie, Pee Wee, and Elroy. Both guys struggled to pull off some of the moves they tried. Since the referee was biased, Jaguar should have cheated more. Below Average. -
[2000-04-22-MCW-TV] Jerry Lawler vs K-Krush
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
Lawler really phoned this one in. He does very little to engage the crowd. The foreign object act doesn't really fit K-Krush. I agree that the commentary was grating. Poor match. -
CIMA and Sumo Fuji got jumped in the beginning, giving the opposing team the early advantage. I liked how angry and aggressive CIMA was when he got tagged in. The spot where Sumo Fuji stopped the dive with the chair was cool. This one felt more heated than some of the other Toryumon tags. Good match.

The teams had weird pairings in this one, and Shocker and Zumbido let Casas get double teamed and beaten. Wish this had been longer.

[2000-04-21-Stampede Wrestling] Sabu vs Johnny Devine
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
Some matches Sabu is on, but lots of times he is off and this was one of those. From the matwork on, he wasn't able to execute anything he tried. Johnny Devine was super bland as he didn't bring anything to the table in terms of character and his selling lacked expression. I guess he was supposed to be the babyface, but the crowd didn't care about cheering him. Below Average. -
[2000-04-20-CWF] Steve Corino vs Tommy Dreamer
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
Corino had a funny opening promo, but this went downhill from there. Dreamer wouldn't stick to the "old school" rules, so this turns into a long comedy match with chair spots. I'm not much of a Tommy Dreamer fan, and I found Dreamer's imitations painfully unfunny. I was just ready for the match to end. Poor match. -
[2000-04-20-CWF] Little Guido vs Mikey Whipwreck
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
Whipwreck looks like he labors with a bad back just walking around, so it is impressive to see him run the ropes over and over. This was a well executed basic match. Average match. -
This one was all action, with everybody in the match going full speed. Everybody put in a decent performance, even though the match didn't feel consequential. Fun match.

[2000-04-19-DDT] Sanshiro Takagi vs Masao Orihara
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
I liked the early part of the match, such as the hammerlock sequence by Takagi. They lost momentum when they went outside the ring and never really regained it. The crowd was uncomfortably dead silent for most of the match. Orihara tried to engage them with his heel antics, but they just didn't respond very much. The low blow reversed into the cross armbreaker was nifty. I'm not sure I understood the end with the run in and Orihara repeating the moves that were done to him earlier. Average match. -
Why was Dragon Kid assaulting the referee? Something must have happened in the first 10 minutes they didn't air. Tiger Mask's flying body presses were off, and it sure makes you appreciate guys that have great ones like Hijo del Santo and Steamboat. The Toryumon matches are starting to fall off in quality, so I hope they pick up in the future.

I have not watched much of most of these guys, so I wasn't really familiar with the wrestlers. This started off okay with guys getting thrown into the sides of the cage, but they didn't do much with the cage later in the match other than trying to escape. They did the regular tag team cage trope of the faces leaving too early and letting the partner get beat up. Nothing exceptional here. Below average match.

[2000-04-15-AAA] Octagoncito vs Rocky Marvin
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
They cut to the crowd every time Octagoncito had a big move, so there was no flow to the match. Octagoncito seems to be quite the high flyer. Average match. -
[2000-04-15-FWA] El Hijo del Santo vs Mike Quackenbush
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
Santo looked great as usual, but Quackenbush had problems keeping up and isn't compelling enough at selling to get the holds across. The oddness of Santo appearing in this setting made it interesting. I wonder how much money he got for travelling to Pennsylvania for an indy match. Fun match. -
This started off with some awkward looking sequences, but the match really improved as it went on. They made good use of counters to keep the match interesting, and they pulled off that top rope finish. Low Ki continues to be athletically impressive. Good match.

[2000-04-15-XPW] Chris Candido vs Shane Douglas vs Sabu
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
Douglas and Candido were having a boring match that picked up when Sabu entered. Douglas quitting the match and deciding he wanted Candido to win seemed silly. Sabu's stunts were fun, but the match as a whole wasn't very good. Below average. -
[2000-04-15-TWA-Total Impact TV] Shawn Michaels vs Venom
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
This had a nice build of suspense surrounding whether Michaels would mess up his injured back. It was a good garbage match brought down by the problems of the run-in. I agree the big table bump should have been placed at the end. He could have superkicked Venom over the edge onto the table to finish the match. -
[2000-04-15-MPPW-TV] Wolfie D vs Derrick King
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
King continues to be fun to watch. He looks great when doing things like the bump into the turnbuckle post. It seemed like they were rushing through the moves at the end to get to the finish. Average match. -
[2000-04-15-MCW-TV] Steven Regal vs Reckless Youth
Moonsault Marvin replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
This was a decent tv match. None of the moves or matwork that Reckless Youth does are tight, so it makes everything seem too cooperative. I liked Regal's post-match antics. Average match. -
[2000-04-15-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Kenta Kobashi vs Takao Omori
Moonsault Marvin replied to Loss's topic in April 2000
Omori puts in some decent leg work in the first half on Kobashi, who does his crying style selling, but the leg damage gets dropped in the second half of the match. Kobashi abuses the poor guy with a sleeper suplex, half nelson suplex, powerbomb, and turnbuckle powerbomb. He takes Omori's head off with the lariat. He had me rooting for Omori instead of him, as I felt sorry for Omori with the beating to the neck and head that he was taking. This verged on overkill, but was still interesting. Good match. -
I liked Misawa using his wiggling fingers to sell the numbness from the arm work by Ogawa. Ogawa had a good offensive showing that looked credible throughout. Misawa looked sort of tired at times but got fired up enough for the back and forth toward the middle of the match, and the end run didn't go overboard. Good match.
