JvK reviews pimped matches from late 90s-10s
conker8 replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Megathread archive
You should try watching El Satanico. From what I read, you stop the Lucha 80's set just before his best year. His 1989 year is also a good year. -
His feud with Killer Khan (1982). Not praise but his series with Inoki (1977/06/01), (77/11/09) and (78/05/30) might worth a look.

Your Most Hated World Title Reign in History
conker8 replied to JaymeFuture's topic in Pro Wrestling
All the reigns from the cash of Jack Swagger to the retirement of Edge. -
I can't find that match : Johnny Weaver & George Becker vs Rip Hawk & Swede Hanson Is it on Youtube ?

I write off : Gene Kiniski with only one match against Baba in his prime. Buddy Rogers - 3 matchs from CFA and the O'Connor match from 1961 is not enough for me. Antonino Rocca - underrated because he is seen as a lesser wrestler, we have mostly clips and not full match. Fritz Von Erich is a fun wild man and I like him more than Abdullah or Sheik. Again, we have only Baba and Jumbo matches (and old Fritz in WCCW). Lou Thesz is in my Top 50. He is the one who benefit for having a good amount of match. He can have good match with veterans like Tom Rice or Walter Palmer, he has the best Mighty Atlas match working around Atlas's spot and he have one of my favorite match with Verne Gagne. Speaking of Verne, Titans of Wrestling did a good work on him after his death. I agree with them on liking more young and fiery Verne than Champ Verne. Rikidozan is a name I forgot to rate - I like his series with Freddie Blassie a lot. Two names I will add in the conversation : Gorgeous George and Hans Schmidt. I underestimate the footage we have : Verne Gagne has 25 matches from the 50's Hans Schmidt has 19 matches from the 50's Lou Thesz has 17 matches from the 50's Pat O Connor has 15 matches from 1952-1963 Dick The Bruiser has 15 matches from 1955-1962 Buddy Rogers has 12 matches from 1950-1963 Gorgeous George has 10 matches from 1947-1961 Fritz Von Erich has 10 matches from 1955-1966 Freddie Blassie has 5+ matches from 1953-1962 Gene Kiniski has 3 matches from 1957-1967 + an altercation against Whipper Watson All of these guys have footage from the 70's except GG of course.

conker8 replied to sek69's topic in Pro Wrestling
Yes, they know it's Mistico. They chant his name yesterday when he was cutting a promo in the ring. -
The worst commentary team ever.

Fair for Flair: a mini-series
conker8 replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in GWE Podcasts and Publications
Your thought on his chops was great : I will never see a Flair match the same now. -
Can I send my ballot or is it too late ?

I might be the highest vote on Lizmark. Like Bockwinkel, not a lot of footage from his early years but he was really good on the few we have. In his 40's, he was still impressive. One of the most graceful tecnico.

It's a babyface vs babyface match but the crowd is for the challenger. The evolution of Verne in this match is interesting : it start with good sportmanship after McClarity tried the sleeper hold in the first minute. Then, he showed resiliency when McClarity spreads his legs and he does not want to quit or go the ropes : he tried differents things to make McClarity release the hold. But then, the crowd start booing the match (for lack of action). When McClarity had the armlock, Verne tried to "kangaroo" (a kick) and the crowd is agains him. He starts to be pissed and show he is the champion. I love his stomps when he applied the Toe Hold. The crowd hates it. He teases some closed punchs too. The match was heating up but we only have the first fall ! I would have love to see how mcClarity reacts at Verne's tactics on the second fall.

Although it's Moroder, it sounds closer to Kraftwerk than disco. I don't remember who, but some NJ guys in the early 80's was coming out to a YMO song. So awesome. Ricky Steamboat

Darnell has good punchs and an awesome dropkick. The match was long and dull mostly because Yamato has no offense. I love the fan screaming at Darnell "Watch your legs" every time Yamato is imploring.
-
I love how these unknowns (for the crowd and me) establish who they are - Lopez is a dirty heel with a lot of tricks in his bag and Carlson is a young blonde good looking cowboy who had a lot of fire. The crowd is into it and it's a fun match.
-
From Bruce Tharpe : yes - we have very early Ricky Steamboat matches listed on the run sheets - we just have to find them - convert them to Hi Def - and upload them to the website.

Tommy Seigler, Roberto Soto, & Argentina Apollo vs. The Assassin & the Hollywood Blondes Two matchs from Ann Gunkel's ASCW just pop up on Yotube thanks to the son of Tommy Seigler. This match has Assassin Tom Renesto teaming with Jerry Brown & a young Buddy Roberts against the clone of Rocca, Tommy Seigler & the champion of the territory, Roberto Soto. So this is quite a tasty match up. The match is a classic Southern Tag and it's a good one.

Only good thing is Hugo's calling.
-
The legend match was passable but this match is the Worst Match of the Year.
-
I feel bad for Hugo...
-
Is the crowd quiet or is it only the american version ?

In 1977, he loses a Loser Leaves Town Match in L.A. territory and goes to New Japan. He came back to L.A. as the Masked Canadian. He works the second tour with that gimmick.
-
Really great interview. I don't know the guy well (except his TNA and ROH runs) but I will certainly watch his Rampage and his matchs from this year.

If you have the time, I would like you review this match : Lou Thesz vs Verne Gagne - 01/25/1952
