People's perception of wrestler's sizes.
Memphis Mark replied to Memphis Mark's topic in Megathread archive
Lol. It's because he's a NXT reject who doesn't fit in a workrate promotion (or whatever ROH tries to be these days) and clearly got booked just because he was an ex WWE guy they could roll out . That your first thought would be "is it because he's fat?" is hilarious. A company that books the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and brings in Okada/Tanahashi fairly regularly. Weird that that audience doesn't give a shit about Bull Dempsey. Not hilarious . Fans of today hate wrestlers because they are overweight . That is a fact. You have to be a great worker to get past being overweight . I don't watch NXT so I have only seen a picture of James , never seen him work .Unless you are Samoa Joe or Steen , ROH fans boo fat guys out of building. Been that way since the Blue Meanie hit TV screens. You're right, indies didn't start promoting "hoss divisions" or anything. Keith Lee isn't one of the most buzzworthy guys on the indies right now. Willie Mack doesn't have a large circle of fans. Fuck off with that shitty, uninformed opinion. And it isn't a matter of "ROH fans". The ROH fans that went to the RexPlex are not the same ones going today. Even the Chicago Ridge crowd has completely evolved, and they've been in that same building for 13 years. I would love to know where you came up with that theory. I did not come up with any theory . Fans come and go but people or basically the same . People have a herd mentality . They see morbidly obese under card wrestlers as easy targets. The perception of overweight wrestlers is that are lazy and stupid. So , the wrestlers that is 100 pounds or more overweight become a easy target for fans . Guys like the Blue Meanie , Sean Davis and your random death match worker have ridicule and abuse heaped upon them by fans. It seem to be worse in the Northeast markets. If you are a great worker the stigma of being morbidly obese can be overcome by the wrestler .. To clarify I am talking about talent that is around 100 pounds overweight not people that are 25 to 30 pounds overweight. If someone does not think that our society is cruel to morbidly obese people , then they are being emotionally and intellectually dishonest. An example would be the latest TPT event. Brian Milonas was in the tourny . Milonas is morbidly obese . Many of the fans attacked him on social media over his weight and wondered why he was booked by ROH. I just made a off hand comment about Bull James. I was not trying to start a multi-page thread. That said this thread just validates my comments. James is getting push back because of his appearance not his work . If James dropped 50 pounds the fans would see him in a different light. The fans would think James found a new work ethic and would applaud his efforts. -

I just re-watched Starrcade 85. The Terry Allen vs. Tully Blanchard match gets better every time I watch it. The Russians losing the belts . Morton/Gibson was solid. I loved how the Russians threw Morton over the cage after the match. Then Krusher bought in the chain and they triple teamed Gibson . The Russians almost caused a riot. Great stuff.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Memphis Mark replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I have not watched TNA since about 2006 . I will try to catch the first few shows of the second Jarrett , Mantell and D 'Amore era. Dutch and D'Amore is a have good track records. If they get back to actually focusing of in ring product and find their own identity , the reboot may have shot. It will be a challenge since the new guys will have to give Jarrett's old lady something to do , which immediately drags the product down. -
I get the Hardys and Cody , they are draws for ROH. However can Bubba Dudley work in ROH ? I guess we are going to find out. Bull James , Alex Reynolds , John Silver and Maxwell Jacob Feinstein were backstage , so I would guess they are being bought in to build the undercard . The ROH fans seem to have some irrational hatred of Bull James . Don't know why ? Because he is overweight ? Those 4 plus John Skyler, Josh Woods and Curt Stallion should really help rebuilt the roster after the losses to Evolve and NXT . Drew Galloway and Mike Bennett are out there in free agent land . I would think Bennett would return , holding out hope for Galloway . Also I wonder if Sonjay Dutt had a one shot deal or is going to return The company has lost Roderick Strong , Moose , Kyle O'Reilly , Michael Elgin , Kyle O' Reilly , Donovan Dijak , Keith Lee, Jason Kincaid and maybe Bobby Fish , Lio Rush and Adam Cole. I am assuming Ray Rowe and Hanson are sticking around for a while. I ROH has done a good job of filling roster spots and the company hopefully will not miss a beat. Hopefully ROH will get some mileage of Hardys/ Bucks feud , the Scurll TV Title run and Will Ospreay while the new guys are getting over. Some be an interesting few months.

I'm feeling good for a change with Trump in charge. Never felt so patriotic as now. Nice to see someone finally call out the MSM on their bullcrap, do what they say they are going to do and nice to see someone putting America's interests first. It's nice not to feel like a stranger in my own country. I agree with you . Trump won the election and things will improve in America . No one is suffering , unless you call tax reform ,ending Dodd-Frank , killing Obama Care , making money in the market and just enforcing the law suffering. If the socialist left are upset about Trump they have only themselves to blame. Hillary Clinton was the worst candidate they could have put up against the Republicans. America is still a Christian right nation , so the Democrats are going to have to find a middle of the road candidate if they want the White House back in 4 years . The progressive experiment is over. Outside of the major cities Trump still has major support. The Democrats should stop crying and focus on the mid-term elections .. I lived thur Obama 's hell and never complained . My mother almost lost her home because of the last President. My insurance premiums have doubled and I am looking at a 68 % increase in the fall. My hours at work were slashed because of the Affordable Care Act . There is 35 to 40% unemployment in the heartland . Violence in our cities is at a all time high. The Middle East is on fire and Europe is being over run by the conflict 's victims . The elite in NYC , DC , Silicon Valley and Hollywood continue to get richer. In the meanwhile the people in Ohio , Michigan , West Virginia and Kentucky wallow in poverty Gee , thanks. Barry . If you don't like Trump , blame Barry . Obama's radical attempt to transform America into socialist state created the conditions for Trump election. That said I am a moderate who vote for Trump because he was my only choice. There was no one else.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?

Well I kinda of disagree , but hey that what makes America great . TNA has , to have 3 or 4 talents that people know or no one will watch the show . You cannot have a show full of unknowns . ECW had Shane Douglas , Terry Funk , Cactus Jack and a bunch of unknowns . TNA has Jarrett , Raven , Jerry Lynn and a bunch of unknowns. Now ,Impact has the Hardy's , Galloway , Lashley and a bunch of unknowns. You have to a have a handful of guys people know , so you can bring in some type of audience . That allows the network to generate some money of ads and give the new guys time to get over with the audience. Some money is better than none. The use of established talent give these companies time to build a new talent while still have proven talent that can draw money . . Tommy Dreamer, Tazz , Sabu , RVD , the Dudleys , Aj Styles , Samoa Joe , James Storm , Bobby Roode and Eric Young are examples . IMOO, the way to rebuild TNA is not on POP TV. POP TV can be a piece but it is not a fix. They need to start running shows in regions of the country where their talent has a chance to draw. If you have the Hardy run shows in the old Crockett territory . Then you fill the under card with local talent Caleb Konley , Trevor Lee and .Andrew Everett. Then you use combination of contracted talent and locals that show future promise. They could also draw in under served markets like Nashville , Atlanta and the the Ohio Valley TNA used to run weekend loops with the same talent and same matches every night. Anthem should use the ROH / Indy style and try to make every a special event for their audience . Then use the DVD/ VOD/IPPV model to generate future future revenues stream . In the long run they have start a digital network to build the company , but that would take years. Right now they need to get out to the people , run great shows and try to win over fans one at a time. You got to have established main eventers to start building the fan base. Also , if TNA is not going to work with ROH they should approach other regional TV companies to try and get air tome. An example would be Sinclair top rival , Nextstar Broadcasting. They have as many stations as Sinclair. Then you lay the POP TV deal , Regional US TV , Canadian cable TV , a digital service , oversea TV deals and house shows , then you would have a base for future growth . Long term get a get the TV shows on Netflix. Of course this sounds like Mission Impossible , but it could be a good start in developing a 5 year plan. -
Corino tended to drift away from the match in the match. Steve starting talking about all kinds of stupid things that had nothing to do with the match in the ring. He forget his job is to get the product over not a be a stand up comedian . Regarding Kelly I am not sure that he is gone from ROH . Kelly is still twitting about ROH . I would not be shock in he returns in a part time role.

Any match between Jerry Lawler and Jackie Fargo are a must see. The brawling between Lawler and Fargo is jus ton another level. I know they are no complete matches if you watch this footage you one of the all time great passing the baton to his successor .

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Memphis Mark replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I mean you do realize the 3 office guys are obviously going to require a lot less money than 3 wrestlers who are very much in demand right now? As much as The Hardys have really been the only thing creating buzz for TNA lately, I can also see where that buzz has also made them too expensive to keep for a company that as you pointed out really have no viable revenue streams right now. It seems like they ARE in fact looking to invest in new talent, it just happens to be cheaper talent who have never gotten big breaks before like Caleb Konley and Kongo Kong who will probably be willing to sign deals that aren't worth a ton of money just for the TV exposure (however limited Pop TV exposure is now) I think by picking up a few lower profile guys on the indies and better utilizing guys they already have signed like Jessie Godderz and Moose they can still put on a viable TV product with a roster of guys that are fairly unique to TNA. If money is so tight why would spend it on bringing the ex - booking team . They already had guys there that could book the shows. The money that went to those three could have been shifted over to help pay the Hardy's and Galloway . I mean they are cutting everyone pay by 50% , not locking down the Hardy's and yet they have money for Jarrett and his pals . Does not make make any business sense . TNA has to resign the Hardy's brothers. Their gimmick is the only TNA thing has going for them , so losing those two would be a crippling blow. TNA needs the casual fan to survive . The casual fan might make it a point to watch the Hardy's , Galloway and Bobby Lashley . Guys like Caleb Konley , Moose and Kongo Kong are okay to rebuild the undercard but they are not going to move the needle with their audience .TNA has a barter deal with POP , they have to get the rating the Hardy's and their wacky gimmick can deliver. Resigning your top stars and keeping the audience you have should have been the top priority . Resigning Jarrett and company is a waste of money and create a whole new set of political problems for the company . Also these three office guys are not cheap . Jarrett is not going to work on the cheap . JJ has a ego the size of Texas . Those three are getting paid good money , which should go to the talent. The ones would do all of the real work. At this Jarrett is really pretty worthless to TNA , a stupid hire. Hell they could have given the book to Matt Hardy , he is much more in touch with want the audiences wants than Jarrett. Jarrett's booking helped make TNA what it is today . Jeff is like the Greg Gagne of his generation . TNA has few revenue streams , but if they want to create any new ones Anthem has to invest in talent , . Anthem looks to be just like Sinclair , they want to drink champagne on a beer budget . Anthem must inject some outside capital into this husk of a company , if they ever want to get a return on their investment . That is how I see things , I could be wrong. -

So , let me see if I understand what going on with TNA. . Anthem spent millions get rid of Carter and Corgan . Now , Anthem has a shell of company with few revenue streams. The only money coming in to company is from an India TV deal and a barter deal with POP TV. There is no touring , PPV , VOD or IPPV business. Now Anthem wants to cut the office and talent pay by 50 % , instead of investing in new talent that could rebuild the business. They cannot reach new deals with the Hardys brothers and Drew Galloway , yet they have the money to hire Jeff Jarrett , Dutch Mantell and Scott D' amore. All three who were part of a failed TNA regime and at this point are just a unneeded expense. It looks like Jeff and friends want to recreate that country club environment that they enjoyed in the Spike era. Jeff has talent deals with CRASH and NOAH promotions , yet he is already at odds with ROH . JJ gets deals with foreign promotions , while alienating ROH . ROH could provide some booking for TNA talents and they could run inter-company angles with TNA taht could generate buzz for both parties. Also JJ is going to fill in the Impact talent roster with GFW talent. I find that odd because GFW does not have a talent roster because GFW does not really exist. This all sounds like a train wreck . -
Delirious should have cut ties with Lee when in showed up in Atlanta and refused to sign his ROH deal . Lee should have never been booked for Texas .I wonder what going to happen now that Kevin Kelly is out of ROH ? Koff really needs to hire a mature person with a background in managing wrestling talent , ASAP.

George Gulas and the poor guy that had to carry him . At the beginning it was Dennis Hall or Rufus R' Jones , then Bobby Eaton had to carry the burden.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Memphis Mark replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Could be good times . TNA / Impact needs to find an identity . I think the company should focus more on the in ring product and give up on their futile attempt to mimic the WWE. Hopefully , TNA and ROH will be able to trade talent , which could help both companies maintain and slowly build their fan bases.. TNA also need to hire some with extensive ring time to book the product. Someone like Lance Storm would be a good choice. Someone who can actually wrestle , lay out matches and book programs from start to finish. The booking needs to be logical and easy for all of the fans to follow. They also need to create their own stars instead of overpaying for recently fired WWE talent and/or overpaying ROH midcard acts. Overpaying for Maria , Mike Bennett and Moose was not the best business move for a cash poor company. TNA should just watch Smart Mark Video promotions and invite unsigned talent to try camps. They should have 4 to 6 known names and create a new generation of wrestling stars to fill out the roster. That makes the most sense for both the business and creative end of the business. We shall see what happens next.. -
Cole 's deal runs out in April . I wonder if he is just a transitional champ . All of the " insiders ' claimed that both Cole and O 'Reilly are headed to the WWE . I believe it when I see it. If Cole really does leave I guess Castle would be next in line for the belt. Who else could fill in spot within the next four months ?
-
Bobby Fish resigned with ROH . Kyle O ' Reilly has not resign yet due to undisclosed personal issues.. I cannot see Raymond Rowe and Hanson getting a bigger money offer than ROH would offer them . I cannot see NXT offering them a big money deal , but you never know.

Does anyone know who ROH has under contract ? I know that the Young Bucks , Jay Lethal , Silas Young , Marty Scurll , Will Ospreay and Christopher Daniels have signed in the past few months. ROH add Shane Taylor and Punisher Martinez to the roster. Jay White is on loan from NJPW . Outside of those guys I think everyone else is a free agent or has an expiring contract . Anyone have an insight into what is really going on with the ROH talent situation ?
-
I guess they turned Corino down, However , Christopher Daniels has signed new ROH contract. Daniels is 46 years old and cannot have much more ring time left in his body. The rumor is that Daniels is on a path to take ROH ' s booking. Anybody else hear that rumor ? Another rumor making the rounds is that BJ Whitmer is in the mix to replace Corino on color. I would slide Colt Cabana in to Corino 's spot.
-
I agree.
-
You need to be put in a spot to draw. The third match on the card isn't that. Castle needs to work with an actual heel, which unfortunately ROH is pretty short on. Maybe they'll be able to establish Cody as one. I agree with you . Castle needs to be in Main Event or Semi - Main Event on every show. Marty is a heel that why I what to see a program a him and Castle. A program between Castle and a heel Cody would also work . My point is that Castle is so over he does not really need to hold a belt unless it makes sense from a booking stand point. What Castle needs is a two year contract and an big bump in pay. People like Kyle and the Kingdom needs title to help get them over. Guys like Cole , Briscoes , Bucks and Dalton. are just on another level than most of the locker room .
-
A program between Castle and Marty would be moving up. The titles are just props , TV or World it is all the same.. The point is to draw money. , a Castle / Marty program would draw. You can only move talent up the ladder so fast without pissing off the rest of the locker room . Also , Delirious has been in charge for most of Castles run . Now that Kevin Kelly and Christopher Daniels have more power the ROH booking should improve. Really you don't need a title to be the face of the company , you just have to be over.
-
Is Zach Sabre , JR under a WWN contract or is he a free agent. ZSJ is moving to the States and ROH should open their wallet and sign him . A Kyle and ZSJ program would be huge for ROH .
