I been watching WXW on Highspots.. Needless to say I have become a big Walter fan. Also the Lucky Kid has a big upside . He is a great young talent. Ilya Dragunov just returned , love his intensity . Jus t a great prmotion . Remind me of a old territory

Just watched a whole bunch of Leo Burke matches . This was my first exposure to Leo. The man was one hell of a talent. Young wrestlers of today could learn from Burke.

You are correct . The WWE TV deal with Comcast/ NBC Universal their bread and butter.. ROH is in good shape because Sinclair owns over 100 TV stations and is buying the Tribune Company . Plus Sinclair runs ROH like a real business , not a vanity project. GFW / TNA has a barter deal with POP TV..and their TV taping are a free attraction in a theme park. I believe Anthem is losing major bucks and they want out. It would take someone like Paul Heyman to save this sinking ship. Just don't let Paul E. handle the money and you got a good shot a turnaround

Kenny Omega is working the Florida ROH double shot in November . Two more sellouts for Sinclair courtesy of the Cleaner . I don't know what NJPW and ROH are paying Omega , but it is not enough .

Not anything sudden . The rumor has been out there for a long time that Jarrett has an drinking problem . The word was he was drunk at AAA . There also was a nasty back stage blow up between the Jarretts and Bob Ryder . Then there was Jarrett decision to main event the next PPV against ADR .Plus Jarrett had begun the process of rehiring all of his henchmen and turning the promotion into a country club for his group. Maybe Anthem took inventory of Jarrett's pluses and minuses , then decided to cut him loose. .

Has anyone seen Scott Norton 's Portland run ? I really don't know how much footage exists ?

I've always wanted to talk to somebody who witnessed Black Saturday first hand. Could WWF taking over that time slot been successful had they put on a better show do you think? I've seen the first show. The opening tag match with Murdoch was very good and everything else is very, very bad. If they had featured some of their nationally recognized names like Piper, Andre, Hogan, Greg Valentine, Snuka, etc on their first show instead of guys who were at the end of their career and or guys who had spent their entire careers wrestling in WWF and AWA, could it have been successful? At that point in time people in the South would have rejected the WWF no matter what. The fans had a developed an emotional connection with the local product.that that WWF could not walk in and immediately break that bond. It took the fan base turning over for the WWF to gain a foothold in the South . That why the WWF focus on the Midwest in the 80's . It was an easier sell to first convert the AWA fans. Also the WWF style was totally alien to Southern fans. The WWF was always so character driven , while the South was fueled by personal grudges that produced wild blood feuds.. Two different cultures.

I was upset because Georgia wrestling was off the air . Tony Garea was just was there . Don't make assumptions about what bothers me , you don't know.me. Also please don't insult me. My comments were tongue in cheek . I don't know what you deal is., but there is no reason not to be to friendly on this board.

I never cried . I been upset or sad but never cried .The closest I came to to crying is when Jackie Fargo passed away . Often imitated never duplicated . I was upset almost to the point of crying when I turned on the USA Network to watch Southwest Championship Wrestling and that god awful WWF All - America Wrestling had taken their time slot away . The only other time I almost cried was when I turn on TBS to watch Wahoo and Wildfire and McMahon and Tony Garea were on my TV screen.. I last about 5 minutes and turned McMahon show off. . That was a nightmare that almost made me cry.

I never compare the RF and Silken ROH years to the SBGI era . There are 2 totally different companies. Pre- SBGI ROH was the major indy . ROH was the Noah's Ark of indy wrestling. They assembled all of the top indies workers into a Super indy and provide one classic match after another for wrestling fans.. SBGI is a publicly trade broadcasting company. ROH 's main focus is producing a weekly TV show that feeds into quarterly PPV 's . Tours of with NJPW and now the UK shows are used to generate additional revenue. . A smaller roster of talent is used to control labor costs. . Sinclair will pay the top guys and signed them to contracts. After that Joe Koff considers every else replaceable. The SBGI charges for seminars to break into in the company . Unless , Koff and company thinks you can draw money like Cody or Marty you have to pay to play. . Yet another ROH revenue steam . .SBGI is all about getting the max return with the minimum risk .They are all about increasing the bottom line. . Sinclair has a culture of austerity . They throw nickels around like man holes covers . Which is the main reason SBGI is so profitable and is able to put together deals like buying out the Tribune Company for $ 3.9 billion . However the SBGI fear of risk also holds them back from growing ROH into a major wrestling company.. I really loved the old ROH but in reality it died around 2009. However , I am good with the SBGI ROH . I get a free 1 hour wrestling with a good to great talent roster , good PPV 's , NJPW talent , CMLL talent , and now UK talent. Also the wrestlers get a good place to work , TV and PPV exposure , a shot a NJPW work and they get paid. Wrestlers getting paid on time and their promised wage is huge.. The SBGI ROH is different than the old ROH , however I have learn to appreciate the product for what it is , not what it used to be.

The WWE would never a G1 Climax type of event . That would be too much wrestling ,. They are more into developing characters that they can license than actual ring work . Never happen as long as Vince , Linda and Kevin Dunn are around.

No big shock. However I am shocked that more of the ROH/ NJPW/ GFW / UK / Indy talents have not been released. When the WWE reports a bad quarter and misses both their numbers and would look for a lot of these talents to get their walking papers. Lucky for them that NJPW , ROH and GFW are waiting to hire them back.

I am watching NWA 1988 . I just watch the Flair vs. Sting match from Clash I and Barry Windham's heel turn . I am just starting the 88 Crockett Cup . It is still amazing how Sting was elevated from Watt's midcarder to Crockett's number one baby face in one 45 minute match.
-
I am watching Crockett 87 . I am right up to Starrcade 87. The most noteworthy event has been Crockett obtaining the service of Rick Steiner. Steiner is a killer , just an animal in the ring. Steiner had everything ; wrestling ability , speed , strength , conditioning , a great ring presence and a great build . Steiner should have been given a manager to handled the promo work and booked as a single wrestler , instead of being placed in the Varsity Club. . Also re- watched some late 70's / early 80's Florida. footage and some 85 Continental TV , The Stud Stable vs. The Armstrong clan is one of favorite feuds of all time.

Really enjoyed Ron Starr's work in Puerto Rico . I also loved his run in Midnight Express , Inc . Randy Rose return to Pensacola and form another Midnight Express team with Ron Starr , Norvell Austin and later Wayne Farris. Journeymen like Ron Starr were really the glue that held the territories together. Rest In peace Rambo.

It appears that Michael Elgin and ROH are are good terms again Two of his students are working for ROH today .. I would think with all of the recent departures that ROH would have some room in their budget to bring back Elgin, I would like to see Elgin come back a heel .

Someone will know this. A ? about David Crockett.

I just watched this Ronnie Garvin vs. Tully a few weeks ago. Great match. Garvin also had some classics with Arn Anderson in 87. Garvin , Tully , Double A and Barry Windham were produced quality matches for Crockett in 87. Barry vs. Arn going to a draw for the western belt is another one of my favorites . -
Southeastern/Continental Championship Wrestling

Does anyone know the the makeup SECW/CCW ownership group? I always assumed that Ron Fuller had 51 % of the company. So that left Robert Fuller , Jimmy Golden , Bob Armstrong and Roy Lee Welch with minority positions. I did read that Armstrong had 10 % , not sure about the others. -
Still watching 86 Crockett . Ric Rude and Manny Fernandez just won the tag belts from Morton and Gibson. Barry Windham has returned and team with Ronnie Garvin to beat Ivan and Krusher for the US tag belts. Now the Windham / Garvin vs. Condrey / Eaton feuds begins. Some of the best stuff ever , makes it hard to watch today 's product. Also , Paul Jones has dropped his Adolf Hitler homage in favor of a Liberace look . I wonder if anybody even noticed.

I think ROH and Fish came to an agreement that allows Fish to work more indies. Fish is working without a contract similar to the deal that Roderick Strong had a few years back. Fish has stated that he plans to continue working for ROH. I have not given up on ROH yet. ROH tends to pull a rabbit out of their hat when things look grim. Marty Scurll for example. I don't know whose WWN or Impact deal is up or who the WWE is going to fire. If Sinclair is serious at all about ROH we should see a few new talents on board soon.

I watched SCOH last night . I loved the show. However the Bucks vs. Hardys program is over. Adam Cole appears to being to leaving in May. So assuming the company is not being sold , the question is where does ROH go after drawing 3, 500 paid for SCOH ? It appears to Cody is going to challenge Daniels for the belt and Fish and Young are going to feud. After that I see nothing else in the works . What other new programs will start in Baltimore ? Will the company rebuilt their depleted roster or just try to get by booking special attractions ? Is there any available indy talent in the market place that ROH could book that would draw ? Should be interesting.

Well Ric Rude was the top heel in the Dangerous Alliance. Austin , Anderson and Eaton were his Horsemen. I was never sure why Larry was even in this group. Also Paul Heymen really worked hard to get his guys and the current angle over . over. Not saying Heenan did not get the talent over, but Heymen really was good at building relationships with his guys. Paul may be a con man , but he was a great wrestling manager.

I am watching Starrcade 86. I just finished the Jimmy Garvin vs. Brad Armstrong match and the Dutch Mantell / Bobby Jaggers vs. Uncle Ivan/ Krusher tag match. Next up is the Ric Rude vs. Wahoo strap match. Rude is just starting in the NWA after his Memphis, Florida and World Class runs . Really looking forward to reliving the title run of Rude and the Bull . I love all things 80's NWA. I did take a break from the NWA to watch Super Card of Honor on Ippv. Solid show . ROH is only active promotion that I watch. I tried to watch the relaunch of Impact , but I had to turn it off after about 30 minutes. The feuding announcer angle was just too awful to watch .

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Memphis Mark replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I watch the TNA show. Too many talking segments . Too many non-wrestlers holding a microphone and wasting valuable ring time. Only 4 matches on a two hour show. Two of the matches did not have clean finishes. Pepper Parks is a baby face and he needed his wife's help to win. The main event was not a clean finish. Also I would think that TNA might have wanted to have a multi- month build up to an Alberto vs. Bobby Lashley match. You know maybe do a build up and put the match on the next PPV. Instead we get another screw job finish. The angle with Borash and Matthews was the worse . No one cares about Matthews . The ongoing conflict between the announcers sent the show into the gutter. Off camera the attempt to stop the ROH PPV was really insane. The owl people did manage to stop the ROH PPV on Dish. The question is why would Anthem want to enter into a conflict with Sinclair. Hell Anthem and Sinclair are business partners. A simple Monday morning phone call to Joe Koff would have prevented all of this nonsense. Despite reports to the contrary , I see Jarrett 's finger prints on this cease and deist letter. Only Jarrett would be stupid enough to think Anthem could start and win a promotional war with Sinclair. One would think that the Anthem and Sinclair people are going to have some interesting talks this week. IT looks the the old days. Jarrett has found a new money mark and the country club is back open for him and his boys.
