  1. Would have been interested in you picking a part his case rather than just dropping it joeg but alright. Starr and WALTER has been the best rivalry of 2017. Every match they square off with one another is a display of violence. WALTER comes off as a complete monster while Starr feels like the best babyface on the planet. His body language is incredible and his eyes can deliver their own punch to the stomach. They have done it in tags and singles and each time it is incredible. Starr has also shown that as a quasi-deathmatch wrestler he as actually pretty great. The matches against Janela and Gage are beyond those of a traditional hardcore match. Riddle had a great match against Gage but he didn't EMBRACE the environment like Starr who screamed as he tore off barbed wire from a board with his bare hands. Not saying Janela and Gage weren't big parts of those matches but I highly appreciate a wrestler embracing that style of wrestling when it comes at him. Other matches of note that I want to throw out in his favor, the I Quit match against I Quit. The banter gets a bit gross at times but the concept plus the quality of action makes the overall journey with it in my eyes. Has two matches against Zack Sabre. Jr. in CZW and PROGRESS, both being great. Pair those with his matches against Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb and he is as good as anyone on the mat. The Homicide wXw match as a nice throwback ROH 2000's midcard match was a hoot. There is also a Corey Hollis match from PWX which is probably going to be in my top 10 for MOTY. I recommend watching Lio Rush vs. Corey Hollis after because it is similar in concept but magnitudes worse in execution. Made me appreciate a match I love a little more. The Hollis match is a strong example of Starr selling a limb as well as showing him at his most sympathetic. So yes, David Starr, really. PS For what it is worth I right now have WALTER #2. The Starr series. The Thatcher tag. Works well with everyone. Demigod. Has it all.
  2. Sometimes it feels like PWO is more "old school" focused with such quality discussion on this thread I'm interested to hear who you think is this year's Wrestler of the Year and why. You can use any metric you want. For me it is without question David Starr. Has wrestled a ton of places this year, putting on good to great matches everywhere. Then when you see him in his homebases of Beyond and wXw he cranks it up to another level against guys like WALTER and Joey Janela.
  3. Too many good podcasts coming out right now but still, listen to mine. http://wdkwrestling.libsyn.com/wrestling-is-full-of-terrible-humans Can't shake him, Tanner is back with first time guest Tom Batista of Military Industrial Suplex fame. A real slow burn of an episode as elements of the race for the Senate in Alabama seeps into the episode. We obviously disgust wrestling and how it is confirmed terrible. Truly nauseating. WHO TO FOLLOW: Tanner Tom
  4. I think we can say, We Don't Know Wrestling is BACK! http://wdkwrestling.libsyn.com/mdk-gang-affiliated
  5. What's considered old?
  6. The idea that they consider UK an option is BEYOND pointless. If they didn't draw 10K in the UK it would be a much bigger sign that their brand isn't what they thought.

  8. Sounds like there will need to be a Part 2 focusing more on STARDOM
  9. http://wdkwrestling.libsyn.com/wdkw100-joshi-primer Knew I needed to do a joshi primer for the WDKW100 but knew I only wanted to do it with one person so glad Alex could come on to discuss some of the candidates for 2017. Granted, you can find a lot more information on her Beginner's Guide to 2017 Joshi but I like to think the show does add some different perspectives for you. If you could leave a rating and review on iTunes that would be great! Who to follow: @NOAHs_Savior What to read: Beginner's Guide to 2017 Joshi Recommended Joshi Matches from Joshi City
  10. Not to plug, well actually yeah to do that, I wrote up some horror wrestling recommendations that seem to fit the theme of the thread p well https://spandexarestillcool.wordpress.com/2017/10/21/horror-wrestling-recommendations-2017-edition/
  11. Wanted to make a thread today since the event is being streamed in case anyone want to post in here about thoughts on the card and thoughts during the show. 12. Hey all, if any of you listen to the show it would mean a lot to me if you left a review on iTunes. http://wdkwrestling.libsyn.com/nice Original formula is back as Tanner and I shoot the breeze on the 69th episode of We Don't Know Wrestling. Very philosophical episode as we discuss our growth as not just fans but people. Little light on wrestling as we do briefly talk about the weekend #BigMike is participating in. Not much else though. To imagine this was supposed to be a Halloween episode.
  13. It does have Rey dressed up as The Phantom before we were used to him doing such things. I kind of forgot what he was dressed up as. This does help it slide in my eyes.
  14. Going to do an episode of We Don't Know Wrestling on this topic actually, decided it before I saw the thread. So I'm open to suggestions! Like with horror I think there are a bevvy of different ways wrestling can convey HALLOWEEN. Halloween Havoc is a bit on the nose but I think certain matches really strike the Halloween vibe like DDP vs. Savage and Vader vs. Cactus Jack. I actually think Eddie vs. Rey is sort of a bad "halloween" match in the sense that it doesn't touch on any of its central themes. Feel free to tell me why I might be inaccurate. The Monster Mash match is something I unironically enjoy. Deathmatches can fit in the way movies like Saw and other gory movies fit. Some are more tasteful than others. I do not think Onita deathmatches really align with Halloween. Feels more like a Rocky movie. Buried Alive matches in general seem to work to get in the spirit. Casket matches. Fenix vs. Mil Muertes is such a good Halloween match the more I think about it!
  15. The more wrestling I watch the harder it is for me to lose myself. I have gotten past the period where I can watch things that will regularly drop my jaw and have me go crazy. And I'm totally cool with that. It still happens from time to time and those times are real good. On an aesthetic level I care less about pure athleticism in my matches and nearfalls. I still love nutty spots but what I classify as nutty has changed. Huge setups with fine payoffs are okay but big friggin' moves out of nowhere rule hard. I also have changed my approach to watching wrestling which I'm not sure is a taste thing but I think it affects what wrestling I actually consume. Like, I'm no longer watching full shows unless I want to see every match on the show. It is 2017 and cherry picking is the name of the game.
  16. Wrote up some thoughts on this whole situation. The NWA weirdly means something to my fandom. No idea what they will try to do but I'm hoping it goes well. https://spandexarestillcool.wordpress.com/2017/10/06/my-reason-to-believe-in-the-national-wrestling-alliance-billy-corgan-edition/
  17. http://wdkwrestling.libsyn.com/lagana-nwa-interesting On this special episode of We Don't Know Wrestling I am joined by Dave Lagana, the VP of the National Wrestling Alliance. With the new NWA essentially kicking off early this week we talk about what the future may hold. Specifically talking about monetization, content distribution, and partnerships. Give it a listen! Who to follow: @Lagana @NWAWrestling What to read/listen: Dave Lagana's interview with ProWrestling.net Billy Corgan's interview with Sports Illustrated officially announcing NWA's rebranding
  18. I have an interview with Lagana on Wednesday if you have any questions on the new NWA. Overall I think I'm more excited/interested int his than any other person out there. I think I feel this after every big change in the NWA, which has happened multiple times over the past 12 years. Rarely does the person behind it ever execute their vision. This is my favorite part though, learning what the vision is. Do you lean into tradition, do you have multiple territories, who do you partner with, what content other than Houston do they have available to them if they wanted to start a streaming service tomorrow, will it just be a regular promotion, ect.? Last one is least exciting but I assume most likely. I'm hoping so much that I'm wrong.
  19. I think Gabe pretty much is a no go for the fact that he has as many BAD years as good ones. Great eye for talent. Or...I guess a stronger willingness to use great talent? Every indie darling ROH had a shot at during the past few years it seems Gabe actually tried using while ROH used them as house show fillers. Quack though deserves credit for having a moderately successful promotion not off the back of having major talents throughout. Mostly built off dojo grads.
  20. http://wdkwrestling.libsyn.com/lost-indie-men-of-wdkw100 Dylan Hales joins me this week to talk a few chosen men who were neglected on a prior episode on WDKW100 canidates. That includes Fred "Don't Make Jokes About My Height" Yehi, Big Mike and his son, and the wild man of indie wrestling Joey Janela. Mostly it is Dylan making the case and then me making fart noises. He's watched more wrestling than I ever will so don't trust me, trust him. Again, this is a new feed so please subscribe and leave a review if you could on iTunes. Would be a big help.
  21. Well the cost of WWN rights were PRETTY high. This is so dumb and I love it. Gabe and Sal were given a real opportunity to make something work and they decided to cash checks until it all hit the fan. Gabe will lose out on working with the WWE. Also, not sure how to explain how big it is. It was a multi-million dollar deal in pro wrestling which doesn't exactly happen a lot in this day-in-age. It is also happening with a promotion that is linked to WWE. Evolve is probably the most "notable" US indie which isn't a great sign of things but still stands. I don't see many wrestlers being all too hurt by this and I actually think it will help a lot of promotions that can't book these dudes because Gabe locks them up for dates at a lower cost than others would be willing to pay. EDIT: FLOSLAM JUST YANKED EVOLVE OFF THE SCHEDULE FOR TONIGHT AND I ASSUME TOMORROW!!!
  22. We Don't Know Wrestling is going back to its own podcast feed! This will involve some bumps. I am going to be trying to figure out a schedule that works as well as see if we can be more unique with what I am pumping out. Hope you subscribe and enjoy the ride. iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/we-dont-know-wrestling/id1286332925 Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/we-dont-know-wrestling RSS Feed: http://wdkwrestling.libsyn.com/rss
  23. I have to. I want what is best for wrestling. I want it to succeed and I want everyone in the world to watch it. I want every show to sell out and I want everyone to be rich and healthy. I care about wrestling, because I'm going to be around in another 20 years discussing it. Wrestling is a part of me. What if I told you wrestling sucks?
  24. Seems like a moot point as the feed will be ending soon but here is the latest We Don't Know Wrestling and last through Wrestling with Words as the website will be ending soon. https://soundcloud.com/wwwaudio/we-dont-know-wrestling-new-york-state-of-mind
  25. This thread has been good and dead but I am reviving it because well I like indie wrestling and feel there should be a place to discuss and keep up as multiple promotions have popped up and become players since 2015 including: WrestleCircus becoming the premier Texas wrestling promotion now being clearly a step above Inspire as far as drawing and star power Pro Wrestling Revolver being Sami Callihan's vanity project. A mix between big indie names, including BOB HOLLY, and lesser known wrestlers that Sami likes. Plus the rest of the Ohio crew. Glory Pro, headed by #BigMike taking the place of St. Louis Anarchy and taking it up SEVERAL notches. Going to be the platform that puts Curt Stallion on the next level. Has the right people in is corner to be a big name along with Myron Reed. CWF Mid-Atlantic hosts one of the great indie title runs ever with Trevor Lee. Their YouTube show has garnered a ton of praise for those matches and the surrounding booking. Michael Elgin and Sami Callihan have become the two most influential wrestlers in indie wrestling between their individual promotions and showing influence in WrestleCircus and AAW, which is continuing to be on the uptick. Low Ki is in AAW doing good things. Highspots Wrestling Network has gone above and beyond to release footage from top indies like AAW, CZW, and wXw. Their catalog also includes other promotions that likely wouldn't be promoted because of their geographic location like Defy and MLA. PowerbombTV has become Anarchy Wrestling's home and continues to bring in strong partners like Nova Pro and Tier-1. A bunch of other stuff is going on but these all seem pretty notable.
