A lot of the "hate" granted does come from after the fact stuff like re-watch podcasts done by smarky hosts who've read/heard things and just wonder out loud why Mero was ever over because he was "so bad."

I mentioned Sid. And now that I think of it, Big Poppa Pump, especially since becoming that Superstar Billy Graham homage character, does fall into the Sid category of someone that gets love based on the cheese factor.

Probably a better spin on the "worst wrestler" threads which tend to devolve into shots at wrestlers the poster hates despite clear reasons for them being pushed constantly. I'm discounting the more polarizing ones like Shawn Michaels, Triple H, John Cena, Hulk Hogan, etc as there are different circumstances outside of their in ring performances as to why they get tons of hate despite their successes on screen. Off the top a few guys that I've always seen or heard "how was this guy over, he sucked!?" Lex Luger Starting to wonder if he was the WCW version of Randy Orton all those years. He was constantly being sold as being the most "gifted" athlete, let always seemed to be on the losing end of booking plans. Obviously not a great worker, or charismatic at all, but still seemed to be over, though probably due to osmosis depending on the storyline he was involved in. Jeff Jarrett Probably should put him in the same category as I did with Michaels, Hogan, Triple H (especially), and others (it is telling when people through Jarrett at Austin fans for hypocrisy at ripping political gamesmanship of others and their response is "well, it was Jarrett after all"). But DAMN, I think he probably takes the cake for the least over guy to get a mega push in a major national wide promotion. Sid Viscous Easily the least respected wrestler to headline multiple WrestleManias. To be fair, his connections with fans was probably due to him never really staying that long, whether it was due to softball season or injury, fans in the day probably didn't have enough time to get what smarks were saying about how bad he was. Either that, or as people who aren't as harsh on Sid say, maybe it was his sloppy in ring work and bizarre promos were a cheesy part of the charm. Liking Sid would probably be akin to having an affection for crappy B-movies. Mark Mero Probably can blame other wrestlers for Mero being a successful crappy wrestler. I mean, I think a lot of the Mero hate probably does stem from him being way too overpaid as opposed to more beloved wrestlers. Of course he wasn't a great worker, didn't have much in the way of mic skills, despite his best at trying to get his Johnny B Badd and then Wildman gimmicks over, he never did get the respect that other wrestlers whom overcame crap gimmicks did. I'm not saying they don't deserve the hate necessarily, its just that it seems they get way too much hate, despite being presented as title holders or successful by the promotions they are in, and at times actually were over, and I guess that's what this thread is about in terms of most hated successful wrestlers.

There is a Pandora's Box there when it comes to people sticking their fingers back at the WWE. Especially the guy on the cover of the most recent video game release. Granted he acknowledged it was wrong, and served his time for it, it is still something that the WWE would get killed on if they did take a stance on such issues.

I'm starting to believe Jerry Lawler has legit superpowers
SteveJRogers replied to sek69's topic in Pro Wrestling
Well, there is this... And that is Adam West, in a track suit, with the Batcowl on. Apparently they couldn't get to use the authentic Batman suit for the Memphis TV taping! Despite West wearing the suit at events across America back in those days. -
There have been some memes going around calling the Mets' Young Gun rotation the Four Horsemen, so: Matt Harvey Tully Blanchard SuperBrat diva douche all the way. Noah Syndergaard With his attitude and words of late, the man Met fans call Thor is very Enforcer, Arn Anderson like Jacob deGrom Process of elimination, Ric Flair Steven Matz He will be in the 5 man next year, but clearly Zach Wheeler is going to be the 4th guy when he returns this summer (Tommy John surgery) so this is that rotating Ole/Luger/Windham slot.

Your Most Hated World Title Reign in History
SteveJRogers replied to JaymeFuture's topic in Pro Wrestling
The Miz has to rank highly on this podcast episode. Its one thing when one of the most annoying and obnoxious heels in your company gets a MiTB Briefcase and cashes it in, its another to have him completely neutered for most of his storyline and reign. His cashing storyline on Randy Orton is pretty much secondary to John Cena's battle with The Nexus, then when he finally wins the title off of Orton and is in position to headline WrestleMania AS CHAMPION, guess what? FINALLY! THE ROCK HAS COME BACK! HOME! And we kickstart Cena-Rock as THE Main Event storyline, despite The Rock only being the "guest host" of WrestleMania. So that takes a lot of the wind out of Miz' run right there, and he pretty much never recovers. Oh sure Miz retained the title at WrestleMania, but due to shenanigans that would set up Rock-Cena as the Main Event of the NEXT YEAR'S WrestleMania! Not very often, if ever, even with tons of non-DQ match shenanigans happenings has the winner of the main event of WrestleMania been prone and laid on top in order to get the sneaky win. That's barely qualifies as Honky-Tonk level of championship victory! He's still in the mix for the title for a while, and even a had an appearance in an Elimination Chamber Match, after dropping it to Cena the next month at Extreme Rules, but is never really treated as a Main Event Contender after this run ends. -

Am I wrong in thinking Reddit is probably the best modern equivilent to what the Usnet newsgroups were? Seems that way, right down to back slashes to seperate discussion topics. -
It is possible to have a great relationship with a co-worker, but be resentful about how they get treated preferably compared to you, despite same work level, etc. As long as you percieve that your co-worker has little to nothing to do with the way the company treats them.

Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread
SteveJRogers replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Megathread archive
Are you arguing that this reaction is a good thing or a bad thing, in terms of debating the guy's legacy? Depends. Met HOF/WWE HOF, sure. But a look beyond sustained popularity is needed for Baseball HOF, overall Pro Wrestling HOF. Its a factor in Jericho's case since belovedness does seem to be a component in a wrestler's legacy. -

SteveJRogers replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Megathread archive
Yes, and one can make comparisons between Keith Hernandez and Chris Jericho in terms of popularity compared to actual worthiness of being discussed as an all-time great. But the point is, Hernandez is still very much visible to Met fans, yet will still get the same pops if say they only saw him like once every 5 or so years. -
Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread
SteveJRogers replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Megathread archive
Keith Hernandez has been a New York Met TV broadcaster for the past 15, nearly 20 years or so, but when brought out on the field for whatever ceremonial reason still gets as loud of pops as he did the first time he returned following his final game as a Met in 1989. -
Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread
SteveJRogers replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Megathread archive
I wouldn't say its a correlation. If the Blue Jays brought out Joe Carter, Dave Steib, George Bell, Robbie Alomar, etc before games during this AL East winning season, the pop would be as great as it would have if the Jays were heading for a last place season. -

Truth. The HOF is more about historiography than history, which is something I've said in previous years. I'm not a shill for them, but COME ON! http://www.pwhf.org/ And they have annual induction ceremonies, a physical museum and everything! I'm not saying the WON isn't something to spend pages and pages talking about it every year, but can we stop acting like its the end all-be all of specific promotion HOFs alternatives? -
Fair for Flair: a mini-series
SteveJRogers replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in GWE Podcasts and Publications
I agree. Especially after being forced to give The Big Gold Back, which is why Flair was holding a blurred out tag belt for like a month. -
Fair for Flair: a mini-series

Having listened to both episodes, and knowing what the purpose of this exercise was, I agree. Especially if you are coming out right away and saying "no anti-Flair guest hosts." Because, on one hand, you are preaching to the choir, and on the other, you are using the podcast medium to prove points to people that probably would rather debate you in open dialogue as opposed to a closed channel with literally no feedback. Which isn't a big deal with most of the shows on both PTBN-PWO feeds, but even if you aren't flat out asking for debate, you really are with the way this project is setup. But instead of opening the floor up, you are pretty much like an attorney just making his closing argument with no part of the previous portions of a court case that proceeded it. -

BTW, give credit where credit is due. Yes Flair used "if you got the money, honey, I've got the time" in his promos back in the '80s, but that is a direct quote from a vintage Lefty Frizzell country music song, most known for Willie Nelson's cover version of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_WjFyBFNd0 Just the point being, you made it sound like its a Flair original, like his "limousine ridin', jet flyin' kiss stealin' wheelin' dealin' son of a gun" and other classic Flair-isms, when its from another source material. -

To be...no pun intened, fair, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone to be a contrarian on any aspect of Ric Flair's career. Even if you think someone was a better promo or story teller in the ring, it would be hard to find someone that doesn't think Flair belongs in the conversation about the best of all time in those aspects. To say nothing about said person being willing to sit down for a long recording about the topic. -
Welp, Rollins is almost certainly set to break Punk's Post WM IV Title Reign record at this point!
