  1. Not only was this my first time watching this match, it was the first Inoki match I've watched. I'm just not well versed on Japanese stuff, outside of the garbage promotions. Inoki's entrance was awesome. I'm going to have to get his theme so I can blast it in the car. Vader falling was kind of sad to see especially because he looked so intimidating right up until that point. The charisma these two had was off the charts. The crowd was hot. The match itself was a stiff war and was a lot of fun to watch. I'm planning to rewatch it later as I was pretty tired on my first viewing. The ending coming out of nowhere was kind of offputting, to be honest.
  2. If I had watched this when it happened, I'd have been hyped on it. Teen me loved spot fests (and honestly adult me has a soft spot for them too). Both guys go all out and you can tell they are green but not in an embarrassing way. Forgot how apt the Spanky Leonardo name was in his early years. Very glad Dragon dropped the mask. I enjoyed the play by play guy even though he was mimicking Styles. Overall, fun way to spend ten minutes.
  3. Am I alone in hating refs who physically get involved in matches? It seems to be more of an 80s thing, thankfully. Just watched some Portland stuff and Sandy Barr keeps pushing wrestlers. The only big modern example I can think of is Hebner and he is really bad about it. I think HBK's SummerSlam comeback may be one of the worst examples but at least they tried to make it part of the story. His TNA stuff just reeks of trying to get himself over.

  6. Chicago is only a 3-4 hour drive from me. Provided all my other responsibilities are in order, I can see myself attending this. At this point, I am pretty locked in without a card announced. I really don't see this doing less than the 10k they are shooting for. At the very least, I wouldn't bet against it.
  7. To me, RAW isn't the worst, nor is it the best. Each week there are things I skip through but I watch most of the show. The matches are often good to borderline great. My biggest complaint about that is they tend to happen in a vacuum and don't have a lot of meaning behind them. I can appreciate that to a degree but sometimes it just feels like treading water. Smackdown was hot for a while but the Shane/Bryan/KO/Sami stuff has really started to wear on me. Edit: This is probably an unpopular opinion (well, no probably about it) but I honestly think Impact has become a really decent show. I look forward to it each week. Same with ROH. The hour format makes ROH easy to sit through for me and there is usually something entertaining, even if it isn't technically a great match. At the very least I know I'll get something fun. Does CWF Mid-Atlantic's show count for this? That's also a fun show.
  8. I kinda think those are the low points for STWW as well. Some of them have been good but many don't hold my interest. As for WHW, the Goldberg one had some interesting points but nothing groundbreaking. Didn't even listen to the others as I'd soured on that style. I also can't get into the watch along episodes because I don't have the Network and don't have much interest in getting it. So, I won't be too sad to see the podcast go. It was fun for what it was and gave me some good laughs at work.
  9. I live in Toledo so I will try to hit the library archives and find this Superbrawl ad. Did the news bit say what date by any chance?
  10. First few that came to mind, after the My Way video which I had on a tape and watched so many times, were the Miz "Hate Me Now" one and the Taker/HBK Mania 26 video. I've always had a soft spot for the Placebo cover of "Running Up That Hill" since I heard it in that episode of The OC so it was cool to have it in a WWE video. I hadn't watched that Tremont/Onita video but it was pretty cool. Way better than the match turned out. Daniel Bryan and the "Monster" video still gives me goosebumps.
  11. It's been a while since I have watched this match but I remember feeling similar to you about the first portion of the match. The ending stretch was fun and, while watching it live, I almost thought Santino was going to get the win. I enjoyed him a lot at that time and would have really liked it, even if they had to book themselves out of it.
  12. In regards to Sage Stallone, I'm assuming the connection with Johnny Legend is due to Grindhouse Releasing and a relationship with Something Weird, who I think was putting out some Johnny Legend related stuff.
  13. Awesome! I was just thinking about how I wish you guys could have Bruce on again. Haven't listened yet but will be doing so tonight or at work tomorrow.
  14. Hopefully they run NXT in the theater set up which has much less seating and won't look too bad on the Network.
  15. The ten man was lots of fun. I love multi-man tags and this ticked all my boxes for an enjoyable match.
  16. Got home from work just in time to see the Owens/Cena segment. Wow. That was (hopefully) a star making segment. I honestly never saw Steen in this spot but I'm glad they seem to be running with it.
  17. Well, it's that time of the year so I got curious and grabbed a copy of IWA Deep-South's Carnage Cup 10. I've only watched night one so far. There was a three way that wasn't horrible except for a bootleg version of Abyss named Acid. The other two wrestlers, Lil Bink and Mikey G were perfectly acceptable indie guys in the early-2000s vein. The Tank/Corp. Robinson match was a lot of fun actually. It was the kind of thing that needed Dave Prazak or Punk on commentary though. They didn't even grab weapons for a pretty long period of time. Instead it was stiff punches and headbutts. They kind of did every fun sequence you'd see on old King of the Deathmatch shows, which made the match stand out as every other match started with guys grabbing light tubes and not even pretending to work even the simplest of matches. So if you've got a soft spot for 2000s deathmatch guys, this match would be worth seeking out. For some reason IWA DS brought Kriss Kloss out to do commentary which was pretty fun. I think listening to Naylor and crew wax poetic about early CZW and IWA-MS may have given me a temporary set of rose-colored glasses to watch this show through.
  18. I'd imagine part of it is the fact that Bix writes for one of the sources that 411 (and pretty much every other "newz" site) gets their stories from. Sorry to Bix if that isn't the reason and I misrepresented you.
  19. Just downloaded the show and haven't listened yet but I gotta say I'm pumped for it. I love when Naylor is on a podcast because his enthusiasm is contagious, especially when it comes to early 2000s indie stuff. This was when my fandom evolved from being a grade school kid who watched WCW, WWF and ECW (sometimes) to being a kid on the internet and discovering message boards and tape trading. So thanks in advance for this and I will probably chime in with some thoughts after I listen.
  20. Here is the card for the Weekly Pro Tokyo Dome show from 4/2/1995: 01. Dynamite Kansai / Candy Okusu / Hikari Fukuoka / Fusayo Nochi VS. Devil Masami / Mayumi Ozaki / Cutie Suzuki / Hiroumi Yagi (JWP) 02. Shinobu Kandori VS. Harley Saito (LLPW) - UFC RULES 03. Aja Kong / Kyoko Inoue VS. Manami Toyota / Blizzard Yuki (AJW) 04. Ryuma Go VS. Uchu Maijin Silver X (Go Gundan) - Alien Death Match 05. Terry Funk / Shoji Nakamaki / Leatherface VS. Cactus Jack / The Headhunters (IWA) - Barbedwire Barricade Baseball Bat Tornado Death Match 06. Minoru Suzuki VS. Christopher DeWeaver (Pancrase) 07. Yoshiaki Fujiwara / Yuki Ishikawa VS. Don Arakawa / Carl Greco (PWF-Gumi) 08. Super Dolphin / Gran Naniwa / Taka Michinoku VS. Great Sasuke / Sato / Shiryu (Michinoku Pro) 09. Akira Meada VS. Chris Dolman (RINGS) 10. Nobuhiko Takada / Masahito Kakihara / Billy Scott VS. Gary Allbright / Gene Lydick / Kazuo Yamazaki (UWFi) 11. Great Nita VS. Mr. Pogo (FMW) - Explosive Barbed Wire Match 12. Stan Hanson / Kenta Kobashi / Mitsuhari Misawa VS. Toshiaki Kawada / Akira Taue / Johnny Ace (ALL JAPAN) 13. Shinya Hasimoto VS. Masa Chono (NEW JAPAN) As you can see, it's a showcase for a lot of different promotions in Japan so each match has its own style. I've got it on dvd and it's interesting to watch. Foley talks about it in his first book.
  21. A thought/question I had last night while watching some old CZW vhs tapes I found: If Trent Acid hadn't had his demons and lost his fight with them, would he have ended up breaking out? I honestly haven't watched my old indie tapes since high school so all I have are hazy memories at best. I remember him being pretty entertaining as a personality and someone who, if he wanted, could have an enjoyable match. He only would be a year older than Bryan at this point and was younger than Punk. If he'd have been clean, do you think he would have been picked up around the time of Punk?
  22. Nick Gage is out of prison? I've never attended an AIW show but would be interested. If my financial situation improves by this point I may make the trip.
  23. ROH seems likely. How deep is the CMLL library? I'm not trying to joke or anything, just seriously wondering how much they have preserved? I could see Smart Mark Video possibly launching something with all the promotions they tape/release. It'd be kind of fun to have all the old IWA-MS stuff on demand. If some sort of subscription streaming service launched from them I would subscribe just for the amount of random stuff I'm sure is there that I'd never want to buy a whole dvd to see.
  24. Does anyone know what Hana Mansion Pro Wrestling is? I found a video and am watching it but have no concept of what this promotion is exactly. It's from Japan and here is the card for the video I'm watching: Hana mansion Pro Wrestling 3rd season pattern of the second Section 10.24 tournament! 1 – The Roller Coaster & Disc-O VS The lightning monster & Fujin 2 – master ghost vs Mr. Swan 3 – Hana mansion pro wrestling certified Tag Team Championship next challenger finals Mary’s & Wild Miguel vs peach tallow & surprised Boo 4 – Asakusa Kid vs Death bouncer 5 – Hana mansion pro wrestling certified indiscriminate Championship black coaster vs Thunder It appears that some of the characters are anime or video game related. I'm not even sure if the wrestling is "good" but it's kind of fun to watch.
  25. I just watched the Hardy Boyz/Young Bucks match from August. I went in expecting a decent match but it didn't really click for me. Near the end it picked up a bit and started to be a pretty fun match but the first half was fairly slow and in some ways was a chore to sit through. I haven't watched a ton of Young Bucks stuff but I've enjoyed everything I've seen and especially dig the back rakes. The worst part of the whole match, to me, was the commentary. I've enjoyed Kevin Steen on PWG shows but he was unbearable here.
