  1. Speaking of which, when is the rest of the Good Will Wrestling archives moving over to PTBN's feed? And can Johnny move his archives over as well? Will and Rob are generously re-releasing old GWW episodes through PTBN as they become topical with something else going on (another podcast, or other news).
  2. Secondarily, if you're interested in Meltzer Snowflakes 1985-2013 so you can find some lost PPV gems to watch on 2/24, check out the data dump I posted. Enjoyed the piece and the data dump. Thanks Mookie.
  3. Lot of good comments around this concept. We added in Ben and Chad's picks and commentary to go along with Justin and Scott's. http://placetobenation.com/the-all-time-january-ppv-card/ Share your all-time January card here!
  4. Enjoyed Kelly's history lesson especiallly since you guys always talk about what is available to seek out and watch also (unfortunately little of those unification matches). If I could make a sports metaphor for Race/Backlund: sometimes we enjoy our home team playing a great back and forth game against a tough opponent (Die Hard example - better narrative) and some times you get games where your team just blows out the other guy and the crowd goes nuts because their team looks great. I'm sure you see this in soccer also - just an off-night for the visiting team and what should have been an even game ends up 5-0.
  5. Allegedly signing with TNA actually
  6. While celebrities are supposed to be disqualified, the fact that this shit-show went nearly 18 minutes bell-to-bell should let it qualify. Holy shit.
  7. Both John and the Meanie have been awesome for pushing this on social media. Both guys are great. Very popular first show!
  8. One final note on this episode and I find this fascinating: Johnny can break out a Harley Race imitation with no thought but imitating Parv is absolutely Johnny Fever kryptonite. As you guys flailed away at trying to mimick him, I half expected a "A Dingo ate my baby!" to drop.
  9. The subtitle to this episode needs to be Twain's A (Georgia) Yankee in King Arthur's Court
  10. This was a good show - I liked the three-man group and Bix was a great guest. Couple thoughts: - Lot of talk of the end of tradional PPVs and how we watch them, but what % of the WWE Universe has high speed internet and is technologically savy enough to move over? I think the traditional PPV buys will still be there for a couple of years (obviously at a lesser number). Would they reduce the PPV price once the Network launches? - The figure the WWE has noted about the number of homes that buy at least two PPVs a year is very key. Again, there could be limitations technology-wise but that's a decent figure to look at when it comes to potential subs. Plus, if they don't move over and their ordering habits stay the same, the WWE is still making the same amount of money. - The number they can't predict is how many current illegal streamers make their way over for $9.99 a month. This is all gravy for them. - Bix pointed out the Ring of Honor setup, but WWNLive is another where an archive of shows is available for streaming only. I don't know if they are subscription versus purchasing regular shows but the indy collecting scene has been shifting to digital for some time now. It's a "cloud" collection versus a physical one. - I think a lot about collecting and having to be "online" all the time in order to access the Network. There's still something to me to having a physical copy and not having to be connected in order to view things. This same type of thing happens in gaming, where older titles that were harder to have a physical copy of all of a sudden become availble for download and mass consumption. It's not apples to apples with your SuperBrawl 4 example but that feeling crosses genres as technology and consumption habits change.
  11. As the guy who went **1/2 (Chad was ***), I'm onboard with this compromise.
  12. I'm glad that Bix brought up the SummerSlam 2001 DVD edits to the Jericho match. I had *thought* I heard that he botches a lot in that match but when watching the DVD a couple years ago, didn't see anything. I need to search out the original PPV version now.
  13. I thought Parv's analogy of D&D character types was pretty good. Good EVIL Parv cackle near the end. I also have never heard of Cal (or Kal) and i'm in the area.
  14. Man - Rock & Roll Expres vs. Midnights on that card too.
  15. I really enjoyed Kelly's piece on the history of big stadium shows in this one. Top notch stuff. But really, learning the NWA ran Veteran's Stadium in 1987 - where as a kid we would go and sit 3B side for Mike Schmidt - was just awesome. I'm going to seek out the card. So great that Johnny was there.
  16. Edge
  17. Oh the print stuff isn't there yet - that was poorly worded by me. SOON though.
  18. Ok! So here we go - the official Wrestling Culture logo. Also excited to see Dave and Dylan in PRINT at PTBN also!
  19. http://placetobenation.com/the-center-of-the-wwe-universe/ I thought this was an enjoyable read and wanted to share separately for the group.
  20. The leopard trick was pretty good though -right? I mean come on Chad, be reasonable.
  21. I liked that Parv was pretty proud of himself for nailing "segue" early in the episode and every single one of you completely no sold that he pronounced it correctly. Good job Parv.
  22. Oh shit, outside of the Cactus match at the Rumble what is there? I know his 2000 stuff wiht The Rock was praised at the time, but I don't think it's going to hold up too well. He did have a good match with Austin with the 2/3 Falls? Does that hold up? Surprisingly well actually.
  23. I'd guess they'd hope people would be happy with the entire PPV vaults to start, but I have no idea what their release strategy is for the old shows.
  24. I think you're going to be disappointed that first week then. While they have new programming to add and stream, I wouldn't be surprised if more of the archive starts showing up a couple weeks after launch. I doubt we'll see more added within the first week.
  25. It was a time thing with Callum. Between working the UFC interview circuit and writing, he didn't have the capacity to keep up the old UFC Rewinds. I passed on your note though! They were pretty popular.
