  1. My issue with Balor has to do with how he emotes in ring. It has nothing to do with being able to relate to a demon. I'm not superman but I could still relate to Hogan because of the way he sold and drew sympathy from the crowd. Balor really doesn't emote at all in ring. Jeff Hardy painted himself up all weird too but like Hogan he also knew how to make the crowd feel emotion. When the bell rings with Balor it's like watching a robot.
  2. Yikes, I wanted to see how much time he's missed during this run and it's a lot: Comes back healthy in 2009. Stays healthy the first couple years, goes down with injury Fall of 2010. Comes back after Mania in 2011, gets hurt again in December. Comes back in time for Mania in 2012 and gets announced as a member of Team Johnny but only wrestles one match before he's out again and gets replaced. Can't recall if it was the same injury or something else. Comes back for real a few weeks later in May, but goes back on the shelf in August Doesn't come back until June 2013, but only for 3 months as he's out again in the Fall. Comes back after the Rumble in 2014 and sticks around until Mania. Gets announced for the Andre Battle Royal but gets injured again in the middle of a TV feud with Sheamus and doesn't make it to Mania. He actually doesn't make it to any more matches because to this date he hasn't wrestled since. The 03/24/14 Raw is his last match, winning a Fatal 4-Way match against Ziggler, Del Rio and Sheamus for the right to challenge Big E for the IC Title. The Big E match never happens. No official announcement is made of his status. He pops up here and there on network specials and podcasts and hints that he wants to return when he's cleared. It isn't until a December 2014 Raw that Jerry Lawler mentions in passing that Christian has retired.
  3. I wanna throw Punk in the could have been pile. But like a Bret in 1997,there's a lot of bad blood there and you gotta believe those wounds will take a long time to heal.
  4. Listening to Dylan, Rob and Jeff on Shake Them Ropes talking about a back-up plan for Cena made me think about this. I touched on this in another thread but wanted to open this for discussion as it's own topic. We all know how heavily WWE relies on past stars and part timers. I do think that we're kind of drawing to a close on this era based on age/time factors. You can argue that they've missed out on creating a lot of stars over the past decade. When Steve Austin went down in 1999, they had enough stars to fill that spot. If Cena goes down tomorrow, they're in deep trouble. Looking at who they rely on now: Once a year for Taker is too much right now, let alone in a few years. Rock came back and had his fun. He's still young but taking bumps doesn't seem like a huge priority in his life, nor should it. We've seen Sting. And he's past 50. HHH will most likely always be a presence and can still go, so I guess we've got him. His real-life role in the company kind of limits what you can do with him though. Shawn is retired. Maybe, MAYBE he would come back for a match but you would have to believe he would want a star. So no, he won't be wrestling Roman Reigns, he'll be with Taker or somebody like that. If Austin could physically go it would be for MAYBE one or two matches. Foley is cooked and won't get cleared Flair won't get cleared. We probably haven't seen the last of Batista but Marvel will keep him busy until he's what, 50? Lesnar may continue to work whenever. And like I pointed out with Shawn, it will only be with guys who are at "his level." So who could you bring back for nostalgia? It's not a very promising list. They've missed out on a lot of guys over the past decade who were on the cusp. I'm not necessarily advocating these guys and some of them never reached that level due to their own fault and not WWE's, However, you can't argue that these guys were pegged as future stars at some point and treated as special. Guys like: Bobby Lashley - he was treated as their next Cena at one point and has improved since then. He's basically been erased from WWE history though. Seems like he likes MMA more than wrestling. John Morrison - never broke through, if he came back he would be in the same spot as when he left. Rey Mysterio - He was never treated as a legend like he should have been and unfortunately he has never been a "big Mania match" kind of guy MVP - No way Mr. Kennedy - see MVP Edge - retired Jeff Hardy - I could see him coming back but like Rey, he's never treated as a dream-match type. Chris Jericho and Kane - I can totally see these guys being used but Jericho hasn't been special in years and his short runs haven't set the world on fire. Not to be morbid, but Big Show is approaching the age Andre was when he died. So what do WrestleManias look like five years from now? What happens when we can no longer go to that well?
  5. I agree with this 100% I hate when celebrities one-up wrestlers. PROTECT DA BIZZ! Amell did not embarrass himself at all. This was laid out perfectly.
  6. Decent match, but finish was counter productive. Ryback should mow through guys, not win on accident
  7. God, Xavier Woods is killing me
  8. I can't stress enough how making this show look different felt so fresh. Darkening the crowd so the attention is on the match. Different feel to the entrances. Not everything lit up like a Christmas tree. Have a feeling Dunn wasn't involved?
  9. Main roster really has their work cut out for them tomorrow.
  10. Calling a Sheamus cash in on Balor after this as the ultimate troll
  11. That's pro wrestling.
  12. Bayley's music in slow mo like that is fucking terrifying
  13. Corbin's new gimmick tonight is like when they threw Jungle Jim Steele to the Lions in the ECW arena
  14. I actually kind of liked Dillinger in thay match...
  15. Dillinger reminds me of a late TNN era ECW heel
  16. I really want Liger as a Cena US open challenge guy
  17. They darkened the arena! THANK YOU!!!!!
  18. Joe's entire NXT run so far can be, at best, described as flat...so he needs to show something. He's been working like he's injured, doesn't give a fuck or both...and it really shows. In his very first match in the company a guy nearly died. Even if it wasn't his fault I'd imagine that would have to rattle you quite a bit.
  19. It's on the Takeover special. Pretty sure it was confirmed as Tye Dillinger.
  20. Balor is dull as dishwater. Cool music and entrance, some ok spots but no emotion behind any of it. Hes 2015 Gangrel. And it's not like he does anything different when he's The Demon. Hope Owens wins this. I could see Hornswoggle being in the Vaudevillains corner. He's still under contract and hasn't been used in ages. He also kind of fits with the old school carnival strongman vibe the Villains got going for them.
  21. I really hope this thing is still on display in Vince's living room.
  22. People want a separate touring brand with a different roster, their own championships, a completely different look, a distinct identity with their own Network specials, etc. Don't we kind of have that now?
  23. I can't stress enough how surreal these things are. And now he's added Jim Barnett.
  24. Taker already had his perfect ending = losing to Brock at Mania. The old cowboy gets shot at the end of the movie. Not every story needs a happy ending and I don't think wrestlers deserves a huge jerk-off fest when they retire. And turning either Reigns or Ambrose makes zero sense. Turning Reigns just reeks of laziness. Turning Ambrose would be even dumber. Does anybody think fans will cheer Reigns and boo Ambrose? Reigns would get crucified if they did that.
  25. At this stage I'm waiting for Gary Spivey to enter Barrett's life.
