  1. This is all sort of fascinating to me. If I'm honest, the first time I watched the final Flair-Steamboat match, I thought it was bad acting from Terry and a botched piledriver. Over the years, the feud has endeared to become one of my favorites and I would imagine this has changed my perception of the angle.

  4. I found maybe 8 AWA reviews in his "rant" archive. Nothing from the peak Blackwell years except that Mad Dog match.

  6. I shouldn't complain because I'm very excited to watch this Patterson documentary, but goddamn can't the man have his own DVD set or section of Network content?

  8. Midgets? Are there any great mini matches out there?
  9. I've never actually rated it 5 stars myself, but if we can't give Piper-Bret the full monty then I think we can just pack it up and go home. What more can we ask for in a wrestling match and buildup? Serious question.
  10. There is a crop of pre-IC title run Bret Hart singles matches that fit this: Bret vs. Dynamite from Capp Center Bret vs. Dibiase from Odessa Bret vs. Savage from SNME the Curt Hennig series
  11. Apparently some footage surfaced on Disc 2 of the JCP Good Old Days documentary. No idea what's on there but I might check it out soon. I'm assuming you've seen this but yeah:
  12. Thanks for the list. Great resource. I know it's from th 1970's, but something that will we know the WWE has footage of is the first Battle of the Nature Boys from 1979. It was part of George Pantas' collection which was sold to WWE last year. Ric Flair vs. Buddy Rogers (Greensboro 7/8/1979) - could be from a different night as they had several matches but this is the famous one
  13. Here's two sick beat downs where I can't go over ****1/4: Ole Anderson vs. Precious Paul Ellering (Lights Out Steel Cage Match 10/23/1983) Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. Steve Corino (ECW Hardcore Heaven 5/14/2000)

  16. I've been watching a lot of Mascaras from 1979 and am failing to see why his work is so hated. He has a great look and shows some flash in the ring. A better special attraction than Dusty for my money. Dory is someone who literally works his ass off in every performance so I don't see that complaint either. Sure, he's a black hole of charisma in terms of personality, but he's stone cold in the ring. Crowd is a bit subdued for this one but it's an awesome match.

  18. If more Mid Atlantic TV ever shows up, one thing I'd love to see even highlights of would be the Flair-Steamboat Hair vs. Title Cage Match for the US Championship from 12/31/78, where Steamer finally beats him for the title.
  19. I watched a few hours of GCW TV leading up to this match to get hyped up. These shows are sometimes rapid-fire and also sorta clipped by nature, so this is more of a listing than a review I guess: World Championship Wrestling with Gordon Solie (and Ole Anderson) October 15, 1983 - Features NWA President Bob Geigel commenting on the "Last Battle of Atlanta" between Tommy "Wildefire" Rich and "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer. - Buzz Sawyer w/ Paul Ellering vs. Pat Rose - Promo for the 10/23/83 Omini Card. - Gary Hart pre-taped promo. - Paul Ellering promo on the Last Battle of Atlanta. - Jake Roberts vs. Paul Donner - Buzz Sawyer & Paul Ellering promo on the Last Battle of Atlanta. - Promo for the 10/23/83 Omini Card. - Gordon Solie interviews Jake Roberts. - Gordon Solie talks about Paul Ellering's cage. - Jimmy fucking Valiant ya'll (w/ brief Roddy Piper cameo). - Roadies squash. - Paul Ellering promo on The Last Battle of Atlanta, questioning who he will wrestle if Sawyer loses. - Wahoo McDaniel squash (from Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling). - Abdullah the Butcher vs. Randy Barber (Abby throws Barber into Ellering's tiny cage!) - Jake Roberts promo on Brett Wayne (Sawyer). - Les Thornton vs. Joe Lightfoot (10 minute draw) - Gordon Solie interviews Paul Ellering and still won't tell him who he will have to wrestle if Sawyer loses the Last Battle of Atlanta. - Great Kabuki w/ Gary Hart vs. Ken Kims (Kims gets to use a kendo stick - from Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling) - Buzz Sawyer & Paul Ellering promo on Dusty Rhodes for Grand Rapids, Michigan - Dusty Rhodes promo on Buzz Sawyer for Grand Rapids, Michigan - RIc Flair vs. Jumbo Tsuruta (from AJPW) - Jake Roberts promo on Brett Wayne for the Omni 10/23. - Brett Wayne vs. Pat Rose October 22, 1983 - Gordon and Ole open the show and talk about the NWA potentially banning Jake Roberts' DDT. - Jimmy Valiant & Pistol Pez Watley squash. - Jake Roberts vs. Tracy Storm - Ric Flair squash (from Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling) - Jake Roberts, Road Warriors promos. - Promo for the 10/23/83 Omini Card. - Buzz Sawyer w/ Paul Ellering promo for the Last Battle of Atlanta (Sawyer's whole forehead is cut and Ellering is also a mess). - Roadies squash. - Brett Wayne vs. Jason Walker - Bill Apter interviews the fake Mr. Wrestling #2 - Gary Hart & the Great Kabuki - Great Kabuki squash - Buzz Sawyer w/ Paul Ellering promo for the Last Battle of Atlanta. - Gordon Solie interviews Jake Roberts about the DDT. - Dick Slater vs. Larson (from Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling) - Brisco Brothers squash (from Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling) - Gordon Solie interviews Buzz Sawyer Gordon Solie: You know in every sport of course, injuries are...expected, and, many times, however, injuries can be so debilitating that they begin to effect you emotionally. And I can't help think that Mr. Sawyer that emotionally perhaps you're just a little bit... Buzz Sawyer: There's a lot of emotional things going on in my life right now, a lot of things happen, a lot of people in my life that I haven't seen in a long time. It's bringing back memories, bringing back times when I was a little boy...bringing back times when I think I'd grow up to be a bigger boy. You know, sometimes I sit back and I think, yeah, I'm the Mad Dog and I'm The Best There Is and I've never denied that and I've always said that and I always believed in it. But get that camera up here on me and you'll see that I've changed my mind! Life has changed me! Wrestling has changed me! Tommy Rich...you have changed me. Thanks for watching the Best of Championship Wrestling. The announcers on this program are employed by Georgia Championship Wrestling.
  20. Can we have that show too, please? Since WWE is being so giving and all. Hell, I'll take the rest of the 10/23 card. But yeah, Magnum and Savage as a team sounds pretty incredible.
  21. Also interesting is the fact that the annual Thanksgiving night tag tournament drew more (12,000) and featured Buzz and Rich as a team in the main event. GCW @ Atlanta, GA - Omni - November 24, 1983 (12,000) Thanksgiving Day $50,000 Tag Team Tournament Opening Round: King Kong Bundy & Jim Neidhart defeated Joe Lightfoot & Tommy Rogers $50,000 Tag Team Tournament Opening Round: Butch Reed & Pez Whatley defeated Randy Rose & Jim Randolph Tag Team Tournament Opening Round: The Bruise Brothers (w/ Jimmy Hart) defeated Nikolai Volkoff & Korstia Korchenko $50,000 Tag Team Tournament Opening Round: Ron Garvin & Jim Duggan defeated Chic Donovan & Bob Brown $50,000 Tag Team Tournament Opening Round: Randy Savage & Magnum TA defeated the Mongolians $50,000 Tag Team Tournament Quarter Finals: Butch Reed & Pez Whatley defeated King Kong Bundy & Jim Neidhart $50,000 Tag Team Tournament Quarter Finals: The Bruise Brothers (w/ Jimmy Hart) defeated Ron Garvin & Jim Duggan $50,000 Tag Team Tournament Semi Finals: Randy Savage & Magnum TA defeated the Bruise Brothers (w/ Jimmy Hart) $50,000 Tag Team Tournament Finals: Butch Reed & Pez Whatley defeated Randy Savage & Magnum TA Debbie Combs defeated Donna Day National Heavyweight Champion Ted Dibiase defeated Brett Sawyer Jake Roberts (w/ Paul Ellering) defeated Mr. Wrestling #2 Tommy Rich & Buzz Sawyer defeated the Road Warriors (w/ Paul Ellering)
  22. GCW @ Atlanta, GA - Omni - October 23, 1983 (10,600) The Last Battle of Atlanta 1. Bruno Sammartino Jr. defeated Pat Rose 2. Les Thornton defeated Joe Lightfoot 3. The Great Kabuki (w/ Gary Hart) pinned National TV Champion Ron Garvin; Garvin remained champion since the decision came after the first 15 minutes of the bout 4. Mr. Wrestling #2 pinned Bob Roop (sub. for Mr. Wrestling #1) in a mask vs. mask match; after the bout, Mr. Wrestling #1 was unmasked as Jesse Barr 5. National Heavyweight Champion Brett Wayne fought Jake Roberts (w/ Paul Ellering) to a no contest 6. National Tag Team Champions the Road Warriors (w/ Paul Ellering) fought Jimmy Valiant & Pez Whatley to a double disqualification 7. Tommy Rich pinned Buzz Sawyer (w/ Paul Ellering) in a steel cage match; Ellering was suspended above the ring in a cage; stipulations stated Ole Anderson would face Ellering if Rich won 8. Ole Anderson pinned Paul Ellering in a lights out steel cage match
  23. Scott Keith: "There was no master copy ever found and the only known surviving tape was said to be in the hands of one guy who was there that night in the audience and taped it with a video camera." Is this accurate? Certainly seems so per the Network description and would explain the irregularity in terms of Omni footage existing. Pretty sure I've never heard a version of the story where a handheld copy existed. This is incredibly cool.
  24. Does WWE own the Final Conflict? I don't remember it airing on 24/7 and it's not on the Network. Seems kinda silly for them to roll out the red carpet for one but not the other.
  25. Yes.
