    Indie Guys

I have the mindset as Parv to be fair. Could do with some primers myself here.

    Ricochet

Ricochet is so crisp in the ring, the Ibushi match is one of my favourite high flying style matches of the year - I am looking forward to seeing some more of his pre 2014 stuff.

    GWE Podcasts

I may plan an episode in the coming 12 months talking the UK candidates.

    Vader

A top 25 pick for me, he's shown he can work a variety of styles extremely well and get over in front of many different audiences. Arguably the greatest super-heavyweight ever, and in hindsight was a better pick than Hellwig for the Vader moniker/gimmick!

    Marty Jones

I am a big Marty Jones fan I am strongly considering him for a top 100 place. I will concede that there are better overall workers than Marty, however where Marty's strengths lie is in his ability to get a good match out of almost anybody. Also his dropkick is awesome.

  7. Thank you for providing your clarity. I agree that Dave should come out and say one or the other, voters shouldn't or should be influenced by a candidates MMA career. Changing gears slightly, for anyone who's voted Ventura over the years; have you totally discounted his governor run when making your decision or not?
  8. Like everyone else, he had his moments but his body of work isn't at a top 100 level.
  9. I am interested to know why you so strongly disagree with Dave on it.
  10. What he is basically saying is the WWE office could potentially think the chant is over and the person leading the chant is interchangeable and how that could hurt him. Not the best point he's made, but I understood the potential connotations.
  11. I do understand why yourself and others would enjoy this due to what you described above. You've explained it well as to why this match has great foreign object work but I guess it's not for me. File under horses for courses.
  12. I dunno if we're on different pages in terms of what we look for in a match, but I didn't really enjoy this. I do think from a live perspective this would have been awesome though. I thought that the over use of foreign objects in a straight match takes something away from my enjoyment. I may need re-education to AJPW referring in the 70's - do they basically do the same as the AJW referees in the 80's in terms of pretty much anything goes? 70s AJPW is usually pretty straight-laced with clean breaks and shaking of hands, as per the longer matches featuring Jumbo, Billy Robinson, Baba and others. You don't get that much rulebreaking, and when you do it will be subtle stuff like one guy dumping another one out of the ring rather than locking up. The weapon usage in the Abby-Sheik matches is all illegal, but if you watch carefully, they conceal it maserfully. They work in such a way that the ref can never see what's going on but the crowd can. Just through body positioning, hiding the object, distraction, riling up the other guy on the outside, and so on. ABCs of heel tag wrestling. Personally, I think it's really world class heeling, and great psychology which got them very over with a crowd that is not often predisposed to boo. Incidentally, I think the official ruling on that match is a DQ for the Funks, who had been pushed to extremes by all of this. It's all cool though, I don't expect everyone to like the same things. You can see my review linked above for what I liked about it. This is where we differ, I thought they did conceal it, but not masterfully at all, I thought it was really contrived. Let's imagine this was real for a second, do you not think anyone with a modicum of intelligence who was referring would of worked out that it's not normal to be busted open as easily as the Funks where? I do like to suspend my disbelief in matches but to me this was a bridge too far.

  14. Excellent idea for a thread! Looking forward to Tony St. Clair match as not really viewed much of his footage for some reason.
  15. That's the story I heard too, and I am glad he reconsidered as she is definitely a perception greater than reality candidate in my eyes.
  16. totally agree on this. i've thought about creating an unofficial #PWO IRC channel somewhere... Why don't we have an official IRC channel instead? - or a shoutbox that can double as a chat service, similar to other boards. You can post one liners via the main message board or click in to it and it opens a new chat window. I'd hate IRC to be a barrier to entry you see.
  17. I know that Akira Fukuzawa was the screaming 90s AJPW commentator.
  18. When my other half has phoned Meltzer and Alvarez on Observer Radio for my own amusement.
  19. But Parv, where can I talk with someone from Wales with a deep love for the Wu-Tang clan?! But I understand PWO in it's very name isn't somewhere where I could talk sport, music and all my other interests, however in a small way it's a shame as there are a lot of people I'd on here I'd like to discuss other topics with.
  20. Just today I decided I would join in with the GWE project. This thread is a great starting point for me and I am hoping to reignite my fandom to Lucha and pre 80s Euro.
  21. I have been active online in one form or another for nearly 20 years now, and this place is far and away the best place I've visited to discuss Pro Wrestling. Overall I am happy how things are as it stands, I wouldn't be offended by a Off Topic area either if that was up for discussion.
  22. I missed this thread, and was on Wrestling Classics earlier and found out, really sad news indeed. Rip Jim.
  23. Agree with you on that point Magnum. Knowing Rob personally I know he's extremely modest. I didn't touch on the later years short comings; Cena hatred, negativity towards US wrestling because a. I stopped reading the magazine in the mid 00's and b. I didn't think I'd get an honest answer from Greg at the very least as I know he is still close with Fin and publicly wouldn't want to disagree with his views.
  24. Thanks for the great response guys, really enjoyed doing this show!
