Good Will Wrestling: WWE Network Reaction
cheapshot replied to Loss's topic in Publications and Podcasts
As always, a pleasure to listen too. Great analysis. -
I am worried that horse bolted years ago and they aren't coming back.
-
The video the WWE put up was classy. Youtube Link

I completely agree, but Dave was saying WORLDWIDE MLB is more popular than WWE, and I'm not having that.
-
I see your slant on this, but I'd still like to be able to quantify it. I had a long drawn out debate with a work colleague over a similar point. What's more popular worldwide? NASCAR or Formula 1? In a way this is similar... an American sport that's televised worldwide, but still most popular in the US vs. A global sport that's televised worldwide. After 6 months of debate I finally got the evidence to get him to concede and agree it was F1. Either way, I think it's not as clear cut as Dave implies in this weeks newsletter (MLB vs. WWE Worldwide popularity).

The Jim Cornette Experience

Can't wait for this. -
Something that's slightly irked me in this weeks Observer regarding the network: How can Dave confidently say that Major League Baseball is more popular worldwide than WWE? I completed disagree with this. In the US, of course I agree MLB is more popular, but outside of the US, where is baseball popular as a sport either domestically (outside of Japan and Cuba maybe Canada?) or has a huge pocket of MLB fans?

In the past couple of weeks I have noticed Dave slightly losing his temper with Bryan. I'm surprised it's taken this long to be fair.

This report is funny. They think that 53% of all US Households have an "affinity" to the WWE. How the hell can this be quantified?
-
I hope Hogan inducts him just to see how they try and get over on each other.

Where the Big Boys Play #57

My favourite podcast. Always a great show. Thanks Parv, Chad & Brad. -
I liked Jim Brunzell more than Greg Gagne I liked Jimmy Garvin more than Steve Regal (crazy but anyone, even Jimmy I prefer to "Mr. Electricity")

Agreed, and I actually tweeted Cornette about this as I didn't realise Sputnik was more engrained into the Memphis culture than Fargo. Here is Jim's response: I think name value, it goes, Lawler, Monroe, Fargo and Russell in that order.

I think a lot of people are desensitized from it now, I try and keep Benoit the wrestler separate from Benoit the murder if possible. It's got easier as they years have gone by.
-
I saw Michael Elgin do the 1 minute delayed vertical suplex spot this year live, and it was a thing of beauty.

Yup, it seem's my last few years of MMA memories are all merging together! However, I think being a "heel" vs. not being a "heel" will make a difference in future buy rates where she main events.
-
That has always been my biggest gripe/bitch about Meltzer. I guess when you have been in the business so long you think everything is a work and face/heel crap. I believe he said that Lebron James turned heel when he did "The Decision" a couple years ago. The idea that the last 3 months of Ronda Rousey being a complete bitch and hated was part of some "storyline" or "building a character" is just laughable. Sometimes being a jerk means you are a jerk not pretending to be one like a "heel" She understands how she needs to stay relevant and make money, a lot of what she's done has been pre-mediated. Don't get me wrong, she might be bitch too, but she knows by playing a role she will be remembered more as well as knowing that being the "heel" champ and have challengers "chase" her for the title could make her more money than just being a "white meat babyface". This seems to be working well. More chatter about Rousey than Weidman after the show. GSP was an awesome drawing Heel Champion. Thanks for that.

Cena comes across as a better human being than Punk. Punk wishes he was Shawn Michaels back in 1988 writing horrible things on the back of fan's denim jacket for his own amusement. I don't think Punk is that bad. While I wouldn't call him an overly kind person towards the audience, I can't see him doing something like that or throwing a knee brace at someone's family member who has cancer. I think in a different era he'd be worse than he is now. Well, a lot of Shawn Michaels' asshole attitude came from being drugged up 99% of the time. Dealing a chain wielding drunken fan in Memphis probably would get a different reaction from him than some 12 year old tweeting about how he "sux" so he may have been worse. I don't really know. That's Shawn's excuse and he's sticking to it. A cunt is just a bigger cunt on drugs. It's the whole "oh he's on steriods he's going to get 'roid rage" argument.

Chael Sonnen knew his role completely, played up to it vs. Anderson Silva. And due to this UFC did some great PPV numbers. He wasn't even the #1 contender Oh, that. Yeah, I mentioned it in my first post. I know they play up certain characteristics, I'm referring more to the (far off, admittedly) possibility having Anderson Silva cut a 10 minute promo before his fight about how all the inner city sweathogs need to get ready to look at a real man. I can't seem to find that post? Want to link me to it if possible. It's been a long day so far! I just can't see them going from where they are currently to a scenario you mentioned above at all. Ever.

Davari, Fat Pat Kenney and Jeff Jarrett turned up on the latest Morgan Spurlock documentary on Male Grooming. I now know Davari's shaving habits. Thanks Netflix for recommending me this gem.
