  1. J.R. isn't the guy to get the goofy stuff over. (Maybe that's Excalibur? I dunno...) But what J.R. absolutely excels in is a sports-like presentation, which I have to imagine kinda matters to the owners of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
  2. They're two legends. Who the fuck is Excalibur? This isn't Rey Mysterio we're talking about here! (Pretending for a second that Rey would be an awesome commentator, which maybe he would be, but I doubt it.) But yes, the masked commentator won't make or break the show for anyone, as @SomethingSavage pointed out, unless they're looking for something to make or break the show for them. However, J.R. as a familiar and comforting face and voice should not be discounted. His credibility is second-to-none. The J.R. of 1997 wasn't the J.R. of 1992, and that didn't matter either.
  3. The whole masked Excalibur thing still sounds cheesy as hell to me for a commentator, but the star power and sterling reputation of J.R. should hopefully counteract any bad impressions Arthur's lost Knight of the Roundtable will bring to new fans. I am rooting for Alex Marvez, simply because he was my Meltzer years before I knew about the dirt sheets. He wrote an awesome "insider" column in the paper. Maybe all of the scoops originated with Big Dave - who knows? - but it was still mind-blowing for little 13-year-old me.
  4. They didn't believe in him before. Why would they now?
  5. I hope you mean that Miz is 1000x better than Sanity. Wow, the trophies for the Andre and Moolah are eyesores.
  6. Like EC3 last night, Sanity has been reduced to a trio of useless geeks. Poor Eric Young...
  7. Underwhelmed by the SDL Tag Title announcement. No idea why it wasn't just Usos vs. New Day.
  8. I really hope Revival vs. Ryder/Hawkins is the actual match. Aleister Black and Ricochet have done nothing for me as a team, and I'm counting the days until Gable turns on Roode (but it will be the other way around, because WWE probably doesn't recognize that Gable is the true star there). Usos vs. New Day should be the SDL match. Has no current story going into it, and wouldn't make much sense since they're allies, but fuck it - you know they'll delver a great match. I cannot believe we are five days away from Mania and two major title matches aren't even set in stone yet.
  9. WWE is probably smart enough to gimmick things like that, unlike Dubya C Dubya.
  10. Is Rey's mask supposed to be Sheamus's hair?
  11. The Demon is lame. Yeah, I said it... And it feels good to say. Damn good!
  12. Not sure why this insane brawl didn't close the show.
  13. EC3 is already a neutered geek, and Breeze has been one for years.
  14. I'll quote myself.
  15. Man, you guys are L7 weenies! Prediction: After losing to Roman, Drew becomes the #1 contender to the Universal Title anyway and feuds with Seth Rollins over the next few PPVs. Maybe he wins at the end, maybe he doesn't. Probably doesn't, because Rollins is a supposedly a pretty sharp politician behind-the-scenes.
  16. Easy solution: Have the NXT Tag Team Champions cost them the WWE Tag Team Title match on Monday, or the Revival cost them the NXT Tag Title match at TakeOver
  17. Regardless of what you think of Jay Lethal, this is a fantastic read... http://www.espn.com/wwe/story/_/id/26376275/roh-champion-jay-lethal-journey-msg-was-family-affair
  18. I'm almost sorry you didn't get the U.S. build, because the Flair-Savage feud even incorporated WWF Magazine - one of the few (only?) storylines ever to do so. It was rad!
  19. That's your loss then. Most people who criticize the ending of Lost either didn't understand it or didn't understand what the focus of the show actually was. I thought it was a great ending. That puts me in the minority, I suppose, but I'm okay with that. Unless it got spoiled for you, I highly encourage you to give the show a chance. Is it perfect? No. There are uneven storylines and uneven seasons. But overall, it's pretty damn epic. Almost forgot this was a wrestling board, so... Asuka, WWE, Charlotte, blah blah blah.
  20. I'll be (probably) the lone defender of the WrestleMania 8 build. Yes, there was a messy transition from Hogan vs. Flair (then considered the dream match to end all dream matches) to the "double main event" of Hogan vs. Sid and Flair vs. Savage. Somehow, WWE managed to make Hogan-Sid seem like a dream match (even if the end result was utter shit) and Savage vs. Flair a nasty feud. "Elizabeth was mine before she was yours! Woooooo!!!" And let's not sleep on that amazing Piper vs. Bret face vs. face build and match for the IC Title. Plus, fun pairings like Undertaker vs. Jake and Shawn vs. Tito. Of course, the night ended with the epic return of the "fake" Ultimate Warrior (lol) - because the real one died, according to schoolyard chatter. I was thoroughly sports-entertained leading into Mania 8.
  21. Drew is losing - cleanly, decisively, and possibly quickly. It won't matter. This is modern WWE we're talking about, after all. AJ lost to Jericho a few years ago and became the #1 contender the next night.
  22. Asuka beat Becky clean as a sheet, via tapout, at the Royal Rumble. Didn't matter. Didn't raise her stock in the eyes of the fans. She's never going to be that "top guy" you all want her to be, and not all of that is down to crappy booking (of which there is in spades). I still think she could be a valuable underneath player and gatekeeper though. If they had to shoehorn anyone else into the WM main event, Charlotte is the best possible person to put in that position. As much as I wanted the match to be Becky vs. Ronda 1 on 1, you can't say Charlotte hasn't added her own flair (no pun intended, or maybe the pun is intended?) to the proceedings. You have to give the Queen that, if nothing else. I certainly agree with the rest of what you said.
