That is a perfect response. Kudos.

I am curious over what people see as Daves best bio work? I love the Misawa one.

If You Could Take Only 3 Matches To A Desert Island...
Karl replied to JaymeFuture's topic in Pro Wrestling
The toughest of tough questions..... Misawa v Kawada - 03.06.94 Misawa/Kobashi v Kawada Taue - 09.06.95 Flair v Steamboat - 02.04.89 -
I think the Steiners had a boat load of natural charisma, but by god they were a promo train wreck.

I cannot stress enough how much I love these - I hope there are many many more to come.

The rest of the book is really great....the Husker Du stuff is wonderful...genius musician, with a wrestling as a minor footnote. -
JvK reviews pimped matches from late 90s-10s

Im 42 and I have no idea what the hell you kids are talking about -
If someone were to say to me 10-15 years ago that I would be giving serious consideration to putting Duggan in my all time top 100 wrestlers list, I would have laughed at them for some time, but then, I had not seen Duggans Mid South run at that point. I find his matches from his time with Watts so utterly compelling, so very very entertaining. Now when I think of him, I dont think of his WWF or WCW runs, but only of Mid South. To be able to erase those later years from my mind is surely the greatest compliment I can give to how great that Mid South run was. It is certainly possible he will make my list. It will be low down, but its possible. .

To be fair, thats where I am at, so interesting to see how that all works out in the wash.

Im watching some of the post Mania RAW from 2002 - this was during a period I was not watching anything, so this is all new to me. I have to say, I am enjoying it greatly. Nothing seems to drag, Everything is at a quick pace so does not outstay its welcome. Dont know if the good will will last after several episodes, but right now, for a first view, I like it a lot.

NJPW was a huge part of my getting back into wrestling a few years back, but as it stands right now, I find the product desperately underwhelming. I honestly believe they have run out of fresh ideas, that fears of stagnation which have really started to become apparent this year (the signs were there last year) are an absolute reality. Today's Goto v Nakamura main event was an exceptional match yet left me feeling no great excitement in the immediate aftermath.

When do we expect this to be uploaded?

If ever a podcast was my thing, this is it (along with Excite Series). I adore SMW, Once it gets going, some of the most enjoyable TV you will ever see.

Its the combination of sport and theatre...but mostly the theatre for me. I love the drama, the stories, the fact that x number of people can have an issue which builds and builds until it ultimately has to be resolved in combat. This is why I love 'southern' wrestling so much, because at its best, no one could do this better than Memphis, or MACW etc.....and this is why GWE is a struggle for me, as I cannot separate what happens in the ring to what happens outside the ring when it comes to determining what makes a truly great wrestler. I love Japanese wrestling, which at its best can be equally as dramatic, they just tell their stories in a different way, which to a degree is more impressive, because its so predominately non verbal.

Another top show and nicely put points over why Misawa rather than Kawada should have gone over.

I often wonder, what of Hogan never took to wrestling...what if he chose another line of work. How different would everything have been?

Will say something else about that Hero/Thatcher match...been thinking about it lots since I saw it yesterday....usually a good sign
-
Guess its not his primary area of concern...might need to re-watch again after seeing a few more matches of his.

Watched the Hero match and enjoyed it a lot. The only thing I really wasn't keen on was Thatchers striking, which unlike everything else he did in the match, was really tame. Forearms, uppercuts and slaps all seemed really timid. I have not seen enough to know if this is just a thing with him, or it was just this match, but I certainly will watch more.

Just watched the recent Suzuki v Takayama from Noah....loved every moment of it.....perhaps my favourite match of the year so far. Not necessarily the best, but the one I have enjoyed the most.
-
I need to set aside some time to check some of this stuff out...I have decided to watch all the AJPW I can get my hands on in chronological order from the beginning to at least the 2000 breakaway, so there will certainly be a lot of Dory in my life.

I went to a number of UK based shows in the 80's but have very little memory of where or when beyond one show at Dunstable's Queensway Hall...so the first show I can genuinely remember was this: WWF @ London, England - Wembley Arena - October 4, 1991 (12,000; sell out) Tito Santana defeated the Barbarian Jim Duggan fought Typhoon to a double count-out Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty defeated Hercules & Paul Roma when Jannetty pinned Roma The Big Bossman defeated the Mountie Ric Flair pinned Kerry Von Erich with his feet on the ropes Davey Boy Smith (w/ Andre the Giant) pinned Earthquake after hitting him with Andre's crutch The Undertaker defeated Roddy Piper via disqualification when Piper used the urn as a weapon WWF Tag Team Champions the Legion of Doom defeated the Nasty Boys when Road Warrior Hawk pinned Sags The sheer volume of legendary guys under one roof was lost on me until just now...
